This is not your typical rope length question thread.

I am curious what the longest rope length some of you have tried AND was still able to jump wake to wake (toeside AND heelside)? Absurdly long lengths of like 200' or whatever don't count... ohh what the heck, go ahead and let us know those absurdly long lengths too! we'll just say winches don't count. Just state the conditions at the lengths you have tried and if you could jump the wake.

seeing how far back i could ride, even though the wake was kinda sucky, really pushed my toesides. it was a good experience.

just copy and paste these details bellow and fill in the blanks and add any other comments you wish. and if you have not tried it, go out and try it before the season is gone and report back ;)

Rope Length:
Boat:
Ballast/ weight:
Speed:
Jump wake to wake both directions:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
me:
Rope Length: 75'
Boat: 18 ft Boston whaler rental boat at powell
Ballast/ weight: no added weight, 3 people aboard
Speed: about 24mph (there is only an rpm meter)
Jump wake to wake both directions: Yes

Rope Length: 85' (entire length available to use)
Boat: 2004 Centurion Avalanche (another powell boat)
Ballast/ weight: i think none (the switch on the ballast is broken, but it could be full or part full with no way to get it out?), 2 people on board
Speed: 24 mph
Jump wake to wake both directions: Yes

Rope Length: 60
Boat: cobalt 206
Ballast/ weight: 300 rear, 500 front
Speed: 21
Jump wake to wake both directions: getting there

sidekicknicholas 09-29-2008 11:19 AM

90'
nautique 210
1000lbs rear/800mid/700front =2500lbs
27mph

didnt to any straight TS airs but could still throw all my inverts/3's/5's

I will never do it again, it was fun but scary

dakid 09-29-2008 11:23 AM

90'
210
2500lbs (+/-)
25mph
did all my tricks (hs&ts)

norcalbordr 09-29-2008 11:27 AM

Rope Length: 85'
Boat: 07 Malibu VLX
Ballast/ weight: Wedge, all 4 ballasts full
Speed: 25
Jump wake to wake both directions: yup, TS W2W was tougher than TS frontrolls, scarecrows, 5's, etc.

wakerider111 09-29-2008 11:29 AM

i was able to do a hs backroll on the boston whaler i mentioned which surprised me, especially since i have never done one with so much speed and energy also there was no tower, just a short ski pylon.

definitely agree Nick, very scary but fun!

Rope Length: 85'
Boat: nautique
Ballast/ weight: none, just 2 people
Speed: 24 mph
Jump wake to wake both directions: of course, its alot easier in my opinion then riding like at 70 or 75'

to_blind 09-29-2008 11:45 AM

87'
Tige 22v
2000 lbs. ballast, 5-6 ppl.
25.7 MPH
Jump wake both directions: yes, its just how i ride unless learning new TS spins...I have tried riding over 90', takes so damn long to get to the wake and we don't have daylight savings in Saskatchewan!

ryan_shima1 09-29-2008 12:08 PM

I've been riding this setup for the last year:

91 feet
Supra 22ssv
1200lbs in the back, 800 in the center, 600 in the bow
26.7-27.0mph
Can do all m tricks both directions. Personally, I like riding on a longer line. I feel so rushed to the wake if I ride shorter. If feels good to have more time to build line tension/speed to the wake.

stephan 09-29-2008 12:14 PM

This happened at a tournament last year. I thought my rope was shorter than it was and added two sections to it. I got up behind the boat and did my first trick and realized I was in trouble. Had the driver jack up the speed and took a raley cut at every trick. It was the coolest run ever, stood up both passes and won.

Rope Length: 90'
Boat: '07 X-Star
Ballast/ weight: Slammed
Speed: Not sure probably 25.
Jump wake to wake both directions: Yeah I had to take a hell cute at it but it made my run HUGE.

romes 09-29-2008 12:21 PM

90'
x-1
weight - 4k plus
26-27mph

fun fun fun...still do all my maneuvers

There was an article one time about Parks Riding something crazy like a 200 foot Rope.

E.Snow would know!

This I how I ride everyday--
Rope Length: 87
Boat: 2001 X-Star
Ballast/ weight: An honest 5K
Speed: 27.5
Jump wake to wake both directions: Obviously

I did connect two ropes together once just to mess around and take some video of my homie riding at 87 feet. I was back a good 130 feet from the boat. There was really no frim wake to even hit. The Video was cool.

jay_j 09-29-2008 1:00 PM

Yo Andy, I think you're right about Parks. I remember an article of him riding an insane length trying to beat the "longest" wake to wake jump or something like that. I think he was riding behind a yacht too...

wakebrdr38 09-29-2008 1:36 PM

the parks one was in alliance back in 03 i believe. I know this cus i cut it out and hung it on my wall, and i never cut up wakeboarding mags

'95 Malibu sunsetter on 2planks....400' back!
There was no jumping, the line came out of the water at your feet. It was crazy back there, the weeds were standing upright, there was no noise...
I bought 750' or rope to go for 1000' but...we haven't gotten around to it yet. Getting up was tricky!

jeremy hebert (jhebert)

"andy, im just curious, what kind of rpms are you running with 5k in the boat ??"

Usually abot 3800-4000 Rpms. Some times more if we have a ton of people in the boat.

We used 140ft behind a boat to hit a rail that was to shallow for the boat and we didnt have the seadoo, it was the funniest thing to watch everyone cut out. Some moster powerslides.

puckinshat 09-30-2008 8:56 AM

I hate to be this guy in the group, but I know here in MN, it is illegal to ride a rope any longer than 100' so be careful guys not to get a ticket.

On that note, we had a tube at about 200 feet one day when we were the only ones on the lake. That was fun.

I rode at 85 last week and had to take a monster cut to get w2w with 4000lbs. at about 26. My boat just isn't big enough to keep a big wake at that speed.

Andy, what engine do you have in that X? It seems it is working pretty hard. I have a 350 and runs at about 3100 slammed and 2100 empty.
