I just purchased one of these for my boat while we go houseboating next week. I have not used it yet and wanted some tips and or pics of your guys' experience with them. I am wondering how to set it up when the houseboat is beached? Tie it up to the back and then have the buddy off the back of the boat and have it there... I am not sure how deep the lake will be but I am going on the Shuswap. Hopefully not to deep and 60 feet out!

When houseboating I'd through the anchor and anchor buddy off the bow and snap a rope from the stern of My boat to the stern of the house boat. Put a float on Your anchor buddy so when Your getting ready to use the boat You just pull the stern rope to you until the boat is close enough to board then un-clip the bow and stern and leave the anchor in place.

I also tied the anchor buddy to a tree a few times and that worked well too.

If You set it up right Your boat should be suspended in between shore and the houseboat.

Attach your anchor buddy and your anchor line to the anchor. Measure out 45 ft on your anchor line and attach the other end of your anchor buddy to there. Attach a float in the area of the end of the anchor buddy that attaches to the boat as stated by walt. The anchor rope will serve as a check to both not over stretch the buddy as well as if it should fail you wont loose your anchor. Attach the buddy to the bow of your booat and attach a second rope from the rear of the boat to either shore or the house boat.

Corys' got it right. Always use a rope in conjunction with the anchor buddie. You don't want to be pulling up the anchor with the bungie, but rather the rope. Hey Walt, Richard get his prop straightened out?

The rope idea sounds like a good safety precaution.

Sparky,
It's sitting on My floor. I'm going to wait a day or two and see if I can get them both down there at the same time. Thanks for the hook up !

thanks for the info. i've been wanting to get one these setups for a while now, and think i will this week. what's a good anchor buoy to buy? i've looked at boaters world and west marine and this one looks to be about the right size:
http://www.boatersworld.com/product/367040581msk.htm

is there something better, maybe a little smaller?

also, one last question i'm not sure i'm understanding the necessity for the loops in the lines. and someone in that other thread mentions clips. i've read it like 3 times, but i must be dense today.

sorry, I realize this is an anchor buddy thread, which work great (the addition of the rope is a great idea too), but..

I tie directly to the side of the houseboat using two dock buddies (bungee) and two hippity hops from Toys R' Us for bumpers. That combo has always kept the boat from bumping the houseboat even with big rollers.

Brent,

I just returned from a week up at shuswap! The shore where I was tapered off to about 20' then dropped off significantly. You should have a 10' length of chain between the anchor buddy and the anchor or you will probably pull it loose.

Here is a shot of my buddies 216 with copper island in the background. It was glass almost every morning until 10 or 11am. It also rained most days pretty hard for a short period, but that was supposed to stop.
