after replacing my belt after it broke, everytime i start up the boat it squeals for 2 mins or so, then stops? could it be too tight? any other suggestions

It is lose, pour some coke on it. Wait a day or the next time you go out, if it stops...the belt is lose or too big.

First try and tighten the belt. You can also get a spray can of belt dressing at an auto store if the belt is glazed a bit from slipping. That should solve the problem. <BR> <BR>Coke huh…? <BR>

"... and stupied responses make you look dumb ..." <BR> <BR>Not a stupid response at all. Pouring coke on the belt is a quick way of making it sticky and stop slipping. It is easy and quite effective. Belt dressing also works well but the best solution is to install the belt correctly.

uhm who ever pours coke on their engine in my book is a dumbass im sorry ... but thats just asking for problems ... thats like the people who said use peanut butter to restore the oils in faded plastics sure, it works, but also cause a nice infestation of ants ... and smells like ass.. and i sure dont want ants in my boat and last i checked they luv coke ...

Given the extremely complex nature of how a belt works and the difficulty you had installing one, I would recommend that you bring the boat to the dealership. Complicated services such as changing belts, light bulbs and the like is best left to professionals. Although, since you were observant enough to notice a problem after TWO MINUTES of a belt sqealing, maybe there is some hope in fixing the problem on your own. <BR> <BR>If you do attempt to fix the problem, be sure to wear a helmet

thats funny... but my boat has never been to a dealer, cause a compentent marine engineer for a father can do alot more than a losey dealer, and just for starters if you think pouring coke on your engine will solve problems ... then maybe u should go to middle school again. Shawn i dont know who ur talking to ... casue i never said anything about taking a boat to a dealer ship, ive probably done more work on this boat engine that 1/2 the people on this forum ... Turtle you need to realize that when people ask for help, they arent looking for quick fix it ways which in the end lead to more problems ... (Or it would not help, and the belt would be too tight) Kinda hard to figure out the problem from such a few short sentences...I just gave you an option to try. last time I checked if a belt is to loose it will squeal if to tight all you will do is eat up your water pump and alt bearings but the belt will not squeal. For a person that says he has worked on more engines than most people on WW a simple belt install my 8 year old could get right and if Daddy is a marine engineer you would think he could tell you what is wrong. The best thing you could do is go to the other site and ask the little kiddys there that way the answer will be more on your level.

A smart person would have looked for what caused the problem with the first belt??? Sorry, I can not help as I too am a dumbo, and know nothing about technical stuff.
