Anyone try tinting your own boat windshield? Could it be put on outside of windows? Any tips, comments appreciated...

Seems like your boat cover would scratch the tint if it was applied to the outside.

I have a buddy with a tinted windshield on his LSV. He had to pay extra to get them to do it. The guy bitched & cursed him the whole time. I guess they had to remove the windshield.

Looks pretty bad ass now.

what kind of boat do you have? if the windows aren't curved then yea do it but only put the tint on the back side of the window. if the window is curved. dont even try. just taking the glass out of its rail is a whole job in its self. never the less replacing the glass. also the curved glass is easy to break.

I have mine done and love it. This is the first year I have ever done it, and I feel like an idiot for never having done it before. Needless to say I will have it on every boat I own from now on. It is a lot easier on the eyes, and just gives a different feel inside the boat.

Did you guys do it yourself, or have it professionally done? What did it cost? How difficult was it to do?

fireman38539 09-21-2008 7:05 AM

I had mine done professionally. It is fairly complicated with the gauges in way and the way windows curve they have to heat tint up and shape it to windows... Using a (heat gun). From what I understand the windows are very sensitive to breaking. Before taking your boat anywhere I would make sure that the tint place has done others or is very experienced. It cost me $350.00 Thanks

Travis, I knew I liked your boat for some reason or another but couldn't put my finger on it but now I know it's the tint.

mastercraft7100 09-21-2008 10:22 AM

What do you guys think, should I tint my or not?

Thanks

svt600 09-21-2008 3:25 PM

tinted glass looks good on any color!!

Travis, love that boat!!!

bill_airjunky 09-21-2008 4:01 PM

Definitely makes the boat look bad ass. But their worthless at night.

mastercraft7100 09-21-2008 9:08 PM

I just think it would look to busy Black, Blue, Gray, and white.

dirtyjerz 09-21-2008 11:31 PM

John,
Tint usually looks good on any color boat (my opioion anyway). I say definately tint ur windows. 20% should look really good. I had mine done, and I would absolutely recommend getting it done professionaly.

driving 09-22-2008 4:22 AM

I had mine done, and I went 20% as well. I am never out at night, so I can't really say much about that. But, it makes a huge difference in the day.

And, I think tint looks good on any color. I am considering blue and grey on my next one, and will definitely be tinting it.

ripr 09-22-2008 6:35 AM

Another love it. During the day it definetly brings a different feel to the inside of the boat.

I also am never out at night...so not really an issue.
