So I guess I'm going to get knee surgery again... after one arthroscopic surgery and one ACL reconstruction to the same knee, I've been out since end of july again... at first they thought it was minor MCL sprain but I still feel some looseness in my knee after more than 2 months... so it's presumed to be caused by a piece of meniscus torn off from the wipe out and hanging in the articulation... has anybody ever had the same problem?? does anybody know if the meniscus heals itself or not?? the surgery doesn't scare me at all... I was walking on it the same day the first time I had this kind of surgery(limping for a couple of days)... but it turned out it wasn't meniscus damage this time and had to go through acl reconstruction 2 months later... but now I don't think it should be any different except for the acl part... I know it's not damaged this time... I'd be grateful if someone who had the same problem gives me some feedback...

i've had the same problem. tore the cartilage in my left knee. arthroscopy didn't locate the issue, so i went a year having knee problems. i'd be walking and my knee would just give out on me and i'd fall. they finally opened my knee up and found about 3" of loose cartilage that they removed. i'd say it pretty much fixed the problem, but my knee is still not the same and it catches and i have to "pop" it (same kind of feeling as cracking your knuckles) to get it "unlocked." but i guess surgery did fix the falling down problem ... now if that happens it's probably from alcohol intake - HA!!! good luck with your surgery.

that is exactly what has been happening to me... about the knee giving out on me and falling... it has done this 2 times now since the crash... the second time I was wearing my brace which hold it together a little so it wasn't as bad... so you mean that damage meniscus doesn't heal??? removing the piece that torn only help a little on the constant looseness??? well surgery's not until a couple of months... I still have to meet the specialist and do some tests like arthrography (I cannot have MRI since the ACL reconstruction due to metal screws in my knee)even if I'm pretty sure that's what the problem is... hope it's not going to be too long... free health care is good, but you have to wait a while to get surgery...

I just had ACL surgery then an MRI a few days later, with metal screws. <BR>During my ACL surgery they poked 3 tiny holes in my MCL to stimulate growth.

I had some meniscus issues a few years back. Had the kind of "Lock up" near fall down thing. MRI didn't show anything. Did an exploritory and found the torn nearly totally off meniscus. I surmised that the "Lock up" thing was when the loose meniscus would find it's way into the joint. <BR>Surgery was no problem to remove the torn meniscus but total recovery for me took quite a while. I think the secret is to get the surgery asap. I ended up with some atriphy(sp) while trying to get a good diagnosis that made recovery longer. <BR>good luck

Meniscus does not regrow <BR>Cadaver meniscus is the shiznit if your insurance will cover it <BR>work on building leg strength in the future <BR>good luck
