I had an installer come over to my house today to look at my '08 Supra to tint the windows. He said it can be done with the windows in the boat, and only using one piece on the side windows. I have heard of some installers creating a seam with two pieces which is what I dont want to do. Because of the curvature of the Supra window it will cost me a little extra cash.

Have any Supra owners tinted there windows on a newer Supra with them in the boat? I am trying to avoid removing the windows. Looking to go with the 30% tint, I do not want anything too dark. Anyone using the 30% with any vision problems looking through the glass?

Thanks for any input....

i think i said this already but........i took the windows off of my boat and took them to 2 different tinters that do the best work in my area and neither said it could be done in one piece.

your tint could probably be done while still on the boat because they lowered the dash from 07 to 08, the dash in my boat touches the windows so there is no way it could have been done in the boat, but i still doubt that it can be done in one piece......

there are several videos on the net that show how to do a curved window in one piece.

I had a tinter look at my old boat and he said he could do it, but needed to take the window out because of the dash. Not sure though. I also had others say it would take 2 pieces. I would just ask around and find the best tinter and take the window out.
CD it is a bit tougher than just a curve cause the window curves sideways, but also up and down at the same time. That is what I was told anyway.

How difficult is it to remove the windshield?

07launch22ssv 11-19-2009 11:12 AM

very easy there are screws around the outer perimeter, they are hidden under a strip of rubber inside the frame.....

I know one screw on each window has a machine thread with a nylox nut on the underside. Both are easily accessible. I just stuck visegrips on it and used my cordless to back out the screw.

1 piece at the bends, 2008 Supra, 20% tint, installed with the windshield mounted on the boat.

It can be done.

ya on a 21v because there is a natural seam in the window.......on 22's and 24's they are 1 piece windows.......

jonblarc7 11-23-2009 5:42 AM

My 2006 24 is just like NAW window.

07launch22ssv 11-23-2009 9:56 AM

well i know 07 and up are 1 piece.......

Took my windows in today to the tinter, I removed them from the boat. It was about a 45 minute job and I had all of them out of the boat. The tint shop seems confident they can get it in one piece with 20%. I will post some pics when they are finished.

Also noticed on the 21V the glove box is completely flat, much lower than my 22V. My 22V pad nearly touches the window, it would be impossible to be able to work tint down in that section of the window.
