anyone see this yet?
http://jalopnik.com/5441716/buick-regal-gs-show-car-awd-255hp-and-still-a-four+banger?skyline=true&s=i

Not sure about you guys but I this is impressive. Hopefully they don't screw it up when it goes to production.

I like it.

Buick seems to be a different company than they where 5 years ago. A lot of there stuff is looking "more hip". It kind of seems like GM killed pontiac to turn Buick into Pontiac with a little more luxury feel.

My Dad bought a '10 lacrosse. VERY nice car. but it's basically a Lexus w/different badging. but hey whatever works. it's still a nice car.

greatdane 01-07-2010 9:53 AM

I have to admit that that is a nice looking car. GM does have a few lookers in it's lineup. Don't know about the reliability/quality because that takes 5 year to see. Yet, many of their cars are looking much nicer.

BTW, we just turned 99K miles on our 2005 Acura MDX and we have not had a single problem with the vehicle. Not one failure and the car drives as nice as it did on the day we got it. No rattles. No pulling. No funky breaking. No transmission clunking. Nothing like my experience with my Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.

wakelvr 01-07-2010 10:31 AM

GD, same thing with our 2002 Toyota Sequoia. 140K miles on it, NEVER a problem. My 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland has 66K and I have had one problem after another. Never again.....

I'm actually looking at Acura, Infinity, Lexus or maybe another Toyota for next car/suv. We will be replacing mine this year, not the 2002 140K Toyota.

By the way, that Buick looks absolutely beautiful!

polarbill 01-07-2010 10:32 AM

That new Regal is a really cool looking car. I like it.

I just turned 135k in my tahoe GD with no problems. I have friends that have had nightmares regarding the MDX's and their trannys. My mom's acura hasn't been cheap to own regarding repairs either.

GM's have great reliability and quality from my experience. It is the d'bag media that seems to spread crap lies about them.

Of course we all have our experiences and opinions. I think that the new buick's are pretty sweet. Did someone say that the buick suv is a Lexus???

wakeboardingdad 01-07-2010 11:55 AM

That is a nice looking car, but I'm not sure I would buy another GM. I am GM thru and thru, but with my last purchase, I looked at looked at MPG and usefulness. I bought a Trailblazer EXT with V8. It advertised 16/19 mpg. It gets 13/16. I took it back and they laughed at me. I finally put an tuned ECM in it and the mileage picked up about 1/2 mile per gallon, but it does run very well now. It is actually kind of fun to drive. However, I am looking at a Ridgeline now for my next vehicle, but not to replace the TB. Guess what? It is advertised to get 15/17. That's what it gets with everything that I have read. There is no reason that a vehicle should not deliver what it is advertised to get.

I bought my son, going to school, a 04 Accord. Great car with a V6. It had 87K on it when we got it. I know it'll be good for 250K. A GM or other American car, I doubt I could say the same. I wanted a car that I would not have to worry about his entire time in school. That is why I bought a '04 Honda for 10.5K instead of paying the same for a brand new Aveo or G3 or only year or two old G6ish type car.

Not really fair to bring a Jeep GC into a discussion of GM's reliability. Those things are awful in my experience. I have few complaints with my 99 Z71 with 177k on it.

I like that new Buick. Hope they take the next step and come out with a new Grand National.

lifetimewarranty 01-07-2010 12:08 PM

All I'm saying is that I've had the exact same experience the other way around.

My toyota truck (the little mini type) never got better than 19 mpg's

My stock tahoe doing the exact same commute got 18. I wouldn't consider the toyota got better mileage than my tahoe, since it is like half the weight.

Then lets talk about being good for 250k. NOT

Well, as long as you repair every single accessory part inside the engine compartment and have the top end re-built, etc, etc... then yes you can be good for 250k (with the toyota).

The only car I put 250k on and had it run without issues was my porsche. One new starter and a new clutch at every 100k and it ran perfect.

greatdane 01-07-2010 12:21 PM

Everyone's experience drives their next purchase. The aggregate experience generates a reputation. Thats what I think.

rio_sanger 01-07-2010 12:32 PM

My last three GM trucks have been great. Very reliable, over 500,000 miles combined and very few repairs other than maintenance.

Now, as for fuel usage for that half million miles, I don't even want to know...

brettw 01-07-2010 1:17 PM

The newer American cars see to be doing much better regarding reliability. I'd be hesitant to buy the 1st year of any new car, though. Just because someone has had good luck on a single car of a particular model says nothing about the reliability of that model in general. I'll stick to looking at things like Consumer Reports for any model I'm buying or maybe a car that has bunch of reviews on Edmunds or something so you can get a better idea, on average, of what to expect.

trace 01-07-2010 1:24 PM

I put 245k on a 1992 Camaro RS 5.0L/5 speed. The only things I had to replace were the a/c, alternator, and water pump, and it ran fantastic when I sold it.

barry 01-07-2010 1:56 PM

I still have our '95 GMC Suburban with 147k on it that's never needed anything more than shocks an alternator and battery. I drive it a couple of times a month just to keep the seals wet.. never any trouble. It is my first GM vehicle and I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

phatboypimp 01-07-2010 4:19 PM

Best rig I ever owned 1991 K1500 with 400K miles. Alternator and 4WD solenoid were the only non-maintenance replacements.

2000 Honda Accord - 170,000 without a hitch.

Big believer in maintenance and even a bigger believer in luck.
