Your great deal on a boat

So I am curious to see what kind of good deals you got on your boats? Especially the very budgeted boats. Lets hear your story, and some pics if you have them.

waketowake 07-16-2010 8:38 AM

41 on a 2007 xstar ss with 123 hours. I LOVE EBAY!

not sure if this counts.. But I sold this 2006 Outback V for 20K. it was a great deal for someone.

cwb4me 07-16-2010 9:19 AM

THE only reason you can't tell is thats what your salesman or the manager told you to say. i paid 4500 over cost for my 2007 tige 22ve loaded.thats dealer cost .i did the research and paid cash and bought in december.patience pays off.

bruizza 07-16-2010 9:33 AM

Yep and seeing as how I am friends with the guy that sold us the boat I am going to respect his request.

h20king 07-16-2010 9:36 AM

ken I have seen that boat many times in the read island cove where your pic is from what boat do you have now?? we get up that way quite often

kenteck 07-16-2010 9:43 AM

Harold... YEP! all the time, great place when the water is high enough. many many good times back there. i have the boat just above the falcon photo. no payments. lol

h20king 07-16-2010 9:51 AM

ken if you see my falcon when you are out feel free to say high we were up there last weekend we usually put in at Chinook landing but like the upper Willamette as well 10th street is great for surfing

kenteck 07-16-2010 9:57 AM

Harold, you bet! not much on the water this year, the kid is in softball, everyday pratice and games...uggg, i want to go on the boat!, but they made it to regionals, 3 games away from the world series...

jay_g 07-16-2010 10:30 AM

20 k that makes me cry since I paid 32K for my 2007 OBV (new) before taxes =(

idaho_hillbilly 07-16-2010 10:30 AM

I purchased a decked out 2001 SangAir for $18,500 and sold it for $25,000 two months later.....it wasn't even for sale!

My first Sanger was a 1994 DXII and I purchased it as a bank repo for $10,200 and then sold it 10 years later for $10,700. How much did I put in that boat in 10 years...only gas and people!

boardnxtx 07-16-2010 10:38 AM

In 2009 I bought my '07 Malibu VLX with 51hrs for $37k. Pretty good deal in my eyes. There are same year BU's listed between $45k to $50k right now. Definitely going to be some upside when I'm ready to sell.

Gotta love repo sales. Patience is key though. There are great deals out there, you just have to wait for them to come around and jump on them the instant they are available. I had a deposit on the VLX before the dealer even had it on their lot!

There used to be great deals on EPIC's floating around. I remember brand new '08's being listed for $39k, and new '09's at $45k. Both good deals in my eyes, but not sure if deals like that are still around though...

I bought my 2004 SSV brand new in February 2005 (it was a 2004 left over) for $36,900. The dealer also made our first three payments for us, so we more or less got it for $36k. I've owned it for a little over 5 years now and she is still going strong with about 390 hours on her. It may not have an LCD dash screen, etc., that newer boats have these days, but I'll take my $330 per month payment over a $600 + payment any day!

you_da_man 07-16-2010 11:09 AM

Chance, before I got my Moomba XLV I test drove an Epic and they kept emailing and calling me. At the lowest offer the Epic dealer got down to 43,000 and a full boat wrap of my choice.

cwb4me 07-16-2010 11:25 AM

richard i like that blue color on your supra!

2003 Supra Launch SSV w/ 112 hours (I think every option). bought it 2 years ago for 19,500.

h2ohangtime 07-16-2010 11:59 AM

I think "good deal" and "value" are highly subjective. If you love your boat and you feel like you didn't overpay for it, then it's a good deal. We paid more than our original budget when we first started looking, but that was before we found a newer, very clean Super Air. I'm very happy with our purchase.

patrick232 07-16-2010 12:13 PM

We bought our 2007 Moomba XLV in August of 2008 with 26 hours on it for $35K. So far it was the best boat purchase currently have 166 hours on it. Our last boat was a leftover ebay purchase $80K + boat for $55K ran it for 2 years add about 100 hours sold for $50K. If anyone know of a Malibu for sale that's a steal I have a buddy looking for one.

1999 SAN with 350 hours for 16500 last July.

I don't think there's a much better deal out there.

I paid $18k for my 96 VLX when I bought it in 2001. Paid it off within a year. Added ballast, tower, stereo, PP, and ~500 hrs / 8+ seasons. it would probably bring around $16k now if I wanted to sell it (I don't). Cheap entertainment!

Budget minded. Free and clear. '87 Sanger TX. Great slalom boat and marginal wakeboard boat. Wake is not all that big when boarding, but it is rampy. We typically take this out for morning glass and use my buddies Mastercraft X-30 for surfing afternoon chop.

I could say the number but like I already stated the guy I bought my boat from asked me not to and since he is also my friend I am going to respect his request. so LOL at me all you want but I think respecting a friend's wishes is worth getting laughed at.

nsolis220 07-20-2010 1:05 PM

I picked up a new left over 08 Avy in March 09 for $36K. I added a new WetSound system this winter and installed custom surf ballast. Great boat and will keep it for a while.

bill_airjunky 07-20-2010 4:11 PM

Very cool lookin Avy. Unfortunately Metcraft has made about the crappiest quality towers ever. Great lines though & wish you luck with it.

@Bruizza, admirable quality in a buddy. Unfortunately the topic in the thread is to quote specifics on good deals.

Summer of 09, a neighbor of mine picked up a loaded 08 Malibu Vride with 29 hrs on it, a dinged up prop & a popped heater core for $33k. $150 later & we thought he had scored a pretty good deal.

alans 07-20-2010 4:40 PM

NICE ^^

Definitely some good deals out there, your have to do your homework to find them though.

lakesurfer 07-20-2010 4:56 PM

@ at Bill K: I really like the Evolution tower lines as well. The thing I like least is the 6ft height. I knew about the quality when I bought it. I am keeping my fingers crossed on whether it last (only surf so we dont put any strain on it). But I figured for the price, I could always replace it with a Sampson tower or the new Gladiator tower.

I actually need to update the pics. It look even nicer now that I tinted the windows, installed Sampson racks and a Wet Sound system. I really like the Avy a lot and has been a great boat for my family.

Picked up this '89 in march for $8,000. It has perfect pass, heater and a shower so I thought it was a pretty good deal. And so far we have put 40 problem free hours on it.

boomboom 07-20-2010 6:15 PM

Am I the ONLY one on here willing to admit I got azz-raped when I bought my boat?? lol
I paid way too much. It's my first boat, I really didn't do enough homework. I saw mine when I went and looked at a different boat at the dealer. My wife and I fell in love with it. We paid cash and left. It's a great boat though and we're keeping it for quite a while longer. I really can't complain too much since it's something the whole family loves.

rallyart 07-20-2010 7:08 PM

Picked up my 2006 Sanger V215 brand new in June 2009 for $25k. Even had the upgraded engine, billet package, triple ballast, perfect pass, bimini, cover, tower lights and upgraded trailer with led's and 20's. now has 130 hrs and runs like a champ!!

ixfe 07-20-2010 9:31 PM

^^^ sick deal on an even sicker boat/trailer package.

How did you manager to find a 3 year old leftover. And how did that boat sit for three years w/out selling? It's too sexy. That's amazing!

ryanw209 07-20-2010 9:44 PM

I guess it was on a lot that went under so they shipped it back to Sanger who redid all the upholstry. I just happened to stop by the dealership that it was getting shipped to and put a refundalbe deposit on it before I even saw it. All they knew was it was white with flames. They told me it only had a center ballast, no Bimini, no pp, and the regular engine. They were pretty surprised when it came and had all these upgrades. It was deffinately the deal of a lifetime!

then why are all of you guys who are "respecting your salesmens wishes" even posting in this thread that is specifically for posting the price you paid for your boat? makes no sense.

when your friends and family ask you what you paid do you say "my salesmen told me not to say"?

like its some big secret :confused:

alans 07-21-2010 7:56 AM

I got a call from an old customer the other day. He bought a fully loaded, every option possible, 2004 Centurion Avalanche from me in 2004 for $35k. He wants to sell the boat now and is upset that he is going to loose a few grand on resale. Can't make anyone happy I guess...

Obviously a public forum isn't friends and family, so it's a moot point. He was asked not to say and he's respecting it, get over it.

newmy79 07-21-2010 8:20 AM

4 Weeks ago my wife and I picked up a 2008 Supra 21V with 0 hours on it for $43k, which we think was a good deal. The boat sat on their lot for two years without being sold because of the influx of boats they received from failing dealerships. They obviously had to get rid of the newer models first. The boat didn't come loaded but had the basic options we wanted and got the dealer to throw in the snap-covers custom made in the deal. We just picked up a used Z5 off the internet that is in great condition and are looking forward to finally having a bimini (it gets hot without one)! It didn't come with tower speakers either but I am fine with that because I can build the system myself.

We now have roughly 17 hrs on it and enjoy it tremendously. We'll have this boat for years to come!

I agree. It's like kids taunting each other. "I can beat that" and then never bother to put up or shut up.

$6850 for a Prostar? Nice. So weight it & install a tower on it & it'll be sweet. ;)

That Sanger deal is crazy. Luck of the draw right there. You should be buying lottery tickets.

2000 MasterCraft Maristar 230 VRS, LTR 330 HP engine w/ 270 hrs for $13,300

Cosmetically in great shape but needed about $1,200 in miscellaneous DIY repairs (Belt, starter, water circulating pump, trailer tires) and deferred maintenance (Impeller, serious cleaning, oil change, trans lube change, trailer brake flush, etc). So, I really paid $14,500+ a bunch of sweat equity. Still needs a tower and some bags though.

This thread is very encouraging, I like to know that the people I talk with on WW are smart wake boat shoppers. While the boats with all the extra bling are nice, I can imagine all you guys and your families are having a blast on your "steals". Now I just wish this whole "forgo a salary so I can make it on my own" thing would hurry up, I need a boat! Who here needs some securities investments?! :D

sasky_rider 10-01-2010 10:33 AM

I purchased a 2005 Mobius LSV with 195 hours for 26K Canadian... i had to install PP but it had a full load with 4 tower speakers, light bar, GIII ballast, bimini top, and came with a couple boards and ropes... very happy with this deal. It's my first V-drive and me and the fam love it!!
