Oakley's Move of the Year rumors...

I read on this forum that Harley has a secret trick for Oakley's Move of the Year. Maybe a HS w2w BS/FS 10? I bet he already landed a TS 12 off the D-up but he's keeping it under wraps. Currently he should win for his HS w2w BS 9.

With the deadline less than a month away, has anyone heard any rumors about what tricks are being thrown down?

dakid 08-11-2010 10:56 AM

amber wing's 9?

liquidmx 08-11-2010 11:27 AM

Double Corks FTW!

08-11-2010 11:33 AM

Im sure he has something up his sleeve for sure... Bob soven at pro tour stop in colorado threw down a double tantrum to blind off the double up and almost stuck it it was INSANE

hawkeye7708 08-11-2010 11:46 AM

Joe,
I'm sure Amber will win Women's Best Trick. Hands down.

Fooshee just landed a Slim 7 on the cable which is insane... but who knows with all these tricks under wraps.

Cisco 08-11-2010 12:18 PM

What ever happened to Bob's Trifecta Mobe? Did he ever come close?

Like I watched Rusty throw his 10 , but then even just watching bob attempting that was just amazing to see ,he was soooo high too it was sooo sick I wish I had a video

Cisco 08-11-2010 12:22 PM

Last year Phil said in a WBM interview last year he was gonna try Whirly Dick 900's . And Chad Sharpe told me earlier in the summer that he was gonna try some Indy TS Double rolls to revert!

liveoz 08-11-2010 12:44 PM

Keeping under wraps is pretty lame, throw your best shiat and if it is the best hammer, it will win. I don't think keeping it a secret makes it better. If yoiu are worried that someone will out do you, well they probably will anyways. I could see keeping a new bag of tricks under wraps if you plan to bust them out at a contest ala Shaun White.

Right now my vote would go to a double tanny to blind over any of the spins, and I actually much prefer spins to inverts, but that would have to look pretty cool, whee a spin of 10 or more is just so technically difficult but is just a blur. Hopefully, there will be a lot of hammers and the winning move can be debated all winter.

hyperlite 08-11-2010 1:09 PM

Agreed

waterdork88 08-11-2010 1:53 PM

my vote is on Bob's trifecta, Trevor Hansens w2w double backroll is a very close second in my mind

wakemitch 08-11-2010 2:38 PM

i like the anticipation of trick of the year. It gets me excited about t he sport and gets me thinking of what i would personalyl liek to see. Im always surprised by the progression each year when the tricks are announced.

who knows what will win wakeskate move of the year. those guys are so gnarly

hawkeye7708 08-11-2010 3:19 PM

I just love the hammerfest compilation video they release!

mckenna 08-11-2010 5:09 PM

w2w 12

hayes 08-11-2010 5:34 PM

I don't know about anyone else, but I am so tired of the 1080. The trick is not stylish and is played out. I would much rather see a big air contest with old school tech-tricks (blind judge, t2b, 313, etc). I think everyone is now so focused on adding another 180 that tricks are hucked really fast and not stylish. Just my $.02.

dakid 08-11-2010 6:53 PM

fyi, move of the year isn't about most stylish tricks. it's about the hardest tricks landed as well as landing a trick no one's landed.

1. If you think the folks who are trying to win this thing don't know what everyone else is doing, you're crazy. We just aren't in the know enough to actually know. And why should we be?

2. Keeping a secret does make it better. Harf's 12 was one of the coolest things I've ever seen on a wakeboard. I wasn't there and I watched a cell phone video of the screen and I could still feel the excitement. Hell, I was excited. Part of that comes from the fact that it was pretty much a secret

3. See #1. Also, that's a really intelligent comment. If I land a 1440 and get worried somone will out do me, they won't.

4. Umm... this is a contest.

08-11-2010 10:21 PM

Alright im going to air out some of the rumors I have heard:
Harley- Blind Pete 5
Danny Harf- Blind Pete 5
Steel Laferty- w2w 1260

acerock88 08-11-2010 10:52 PM

Personally, I don't think that another ts 12 off the double up should win. It is probably the hardest trick landed so far, but I think that trick of the year should always go to something that has never been landed before. I think a double invert will win it this year as it seems like lots of guys are working on them.

Cisco 08-11-2010 11:21 PM

^^^

I totally agree that the award should go to something that has never been landed before. No repeats. There is no end to the progression in sight, and just when you think its all been done some person will invent a new trick.

Kane 08-12-2010 1:32 AM

I'm with Liveoz on this, why keep it under wraps?
If all the guys who genuinely have a shot at this know what each other has done then there is hardly any surprise.
If anything it holds back progression in the sport, if everyone just sits quietly by on rumours of what other riders have landed it removes a lot of the competitiveness.

The only real reason I can see in these actions are that if a trick is landed early in the season like Hansen's w2w double backroll for example, it looses a bit of it's excitment, it's been around for a lot longer in peoples mind, there is more buzz around a new trick that has been landed close to the deadline. Same reason Hollywood releases certain movies in "Oscar season".

/ 2 cents

08-13-2010 12:00 AM

Also,
Nick Davies... boat double s-bend
And the rumored 1260 is VERY unique as it was landed Wake2Wake (no double up). IF that really has gone down than **** has hit the fan

hyperlite 08-13-2010 3:03 AM

Lol.....if steel hits a w2w 12 im hanging up my boots.

waterdork88 08-13-2010 8:21 AM

I understand keeping the move a secret. In my opinion the skill level of these guys is pretty close. And knowing what you have to compete against, can push an athlete to land something better (which wouldn't be in the best interest of the athlete that showed everyone what they're up against)

liquidmx 08-13-2010 9:00 AM

Not only that but the internet haters would be all over it on the site....No not another twelve...blah blah blah. That's a big reason why pro's dont post more...keyboard jockeys trying to tell them to wear a vest, do this, etc.

kyle_L 08-13-2010 10:30 AM

Ben,
Double S's have been done before behind the boat. Not to say that is one mother effin crazy trick with probably the most consequences out of any of the other tricks but that my make it difficult. Now he is sponsored by Oakley which helps

stevo8290 08-13-2010 1:46 PM

to me, the double s has HUGE potential for winning. I could be wrong but as far as i know there is no video of a double S being landed on boat. It will also depend on the double s itself. If its legit, a lot of people do an s bend kinda cheap these days, its kinda starts like a front flip then turns s. If its a legit laid out Double S on video... to me.. thats huge.

behindtheboat 08-13-2010 1:53 PM

Didn't Shannon Best do it behind the boat soon after doing a normal S bend?

skiboarder 08-13-2010 2:07 PM

Andy Owings did it behind the boat around 1997-98.

clarkduh 08-13-2010 2:24 PM

What about osmosis tricks?

captain_vilfo 08-13-2010 2:24 PM

im diggin this rumor of a temper to blind... that would be SICK!!

clarkduh 08-13-2010 2:24 PM

quick question... when is wake awards?

behindtheboat 08-13-2010 2:29 PM

Believe it's at Expo

clarkduh 08-13-2010 3:48 PM

I knew that, just was unsure of the exact date and i also meant to ask if anybody knew when is the last day they are accepting footy for trick of the year submissions?

WisconsinWakeboard 08-14-2010 5:50 PM

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned but my guess would be on harley sicking a KGB 7 off the wake.

He has the KGB 5 well enough to do for a wild card, and with a dumper off the wake i can see it easily.

kyle_L 08-15-2010 4:02 PM

These kids are acrobata lol

timmylikewake 08-16-2010 7:54 AM

Lfs aussie website under harleys bindings says he's doing w2w heel 10s

dadthedriver 08-17-2010 11:44 AM

Mobe 7's and Mobe 9's W2W are the next big step I believe. They are spinning 12's now I would like to see the mobes start going to 7 and 9

wakeboardern1 08-17-2010 1:23 PM

Have more 12's gone down than we thought? Cause my friend was talking to Danny at the awards ceremony at knoxville and Harf told him that he was going for a 12 on that double-up in the finals that came out as a massive 10 where he missed the last handle pass.

And after watching that highlight reel at the awards ceremony, I really have no clue who could possibly win this, since there are a few riders that are just insane right now.

W2W Backside 10? Has anyone done a toeside backside 9? If so, is a ts bs 10 remotely possible? The level that riding has come to is just absolutely insane.

steezyshots 08-17-2010 1:28 PM

Maybe the best trick wasn't done behind a boat this year...

somebuddy 08-17-2010 2:16 PM

Double tumble turn...
