Hey guys, will be soon wrapping up a lengthy construction project on my homebuilt experimental Vans RV-7. I would like to use this beautiful example for my paint with this 197 as inspiration for the colors.

I was thinking the blue would be the red, the gray would be the black and the lower strip silver with the top stripe of course being the black, but would love input!

wakeandsnow27 06-16-2012 7:58 AM

That RV-7 was painted by a local shop to me here in AZ where I've had custom work done.
Insanely gorgeous.

Im a little confused though- you have an RV-7 that you want painted like the blue one, but using the colors from that MC?

duckguy 06-17-2012 7:10 AM

Ty, that is correct! I love the scheme they chose.

You are going to love that plane and congratulations on nearing the end of the build!

I am just completing the first wing on a Giles 202 project myself...many years left in the build for me.

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH! I think it looks awesome, any one with input, or ideas on changing it around?

Fiveflat 06-18-2012 12:34 PM

Those Vans are incredible! I wish I had finished my license!

dhill 06-18-2012 12:35 PM

incredible job on the photoshop request!

calexan 06-18-2012 1:14 PM

Black Stripe instead of Silver on the landing gear?

duckguy 06-18-2012 1:18 PM

You guys think black on the whole bottom with silver stripes would be to bold?, I agree on the landing gear and yes he did and incredible job!

mattgettel 06-18-2012 5:15 PM

damn! dude killed that photoshop. good to see that Robert A stepped up and helped out!

grant_west 06-18-2012 7:14 PM

I agree Robert A you are the man. I have not seen such awesome photoshop work since the LonVisable thread. Needs a Photo of Lon out the canopy.

Matt whats it costing you to get your RV4 wheels up? Thats a cool looking plane

duckguy 06-18-2012 7:31 PM

It cost more than I budgeted. I went with the 200 hp option which cost more then the 180 I had planned for. I also splurged on the panel with solid IFR so upgrades wouldn't be wanted later. This paint job is going to cost and I just ordered the "smoke" kit. So all told about 120,000.

grant_west 06-18-2012 8:03 PM

Wow that seems like a great deal for what you have or are gonna have. Seeing how this is a wakeboard forum and your into boats I have to ask you what you think of the ICON A5

duckguy 06-18-2012 8:25 PM

I think it is a really really cool toy. It is and not meant to be a serious mission aircraft. It's slow, can't carry much or go far but it is neat as heck.

grant_west 06-18-2012 8:31 PM

Is the RV4 fully aerobatic. Im guessing so because you got the Smoke Option.
You have to post pic's of your plane we would all love to see it

duckguy 06-18-2012 8:36 PM

The model I'm building in a rv7 and yes it is. +6,-3 g.

patrick232 06-19-2012 5:57 AM

One of my buddies built his RV-10, but did not stop there. He has started another company to make parts for it. Not sure if any fit your plane, but here is the link. http://www.aerosportproducts.com/

wakeandsnow27 06-19-2012 6:17 PM

Wow- insane shop job on that RobertA.

Im not a fan of the black stripe. I like the contrast of the light charcoal on that silver more, like the blue one has. Just my .02!

Funny to see Van's RV's on here. Here is the RV-6A my dad built nearly 10years ago. Full Glass Dynon panel, amazing plane.

duckguy 06-23-2012 5:05 AM

Very cool! At EAA to boot.

cocheese 06-24-2012 12:29 PM

No problem. Photoshop has come a long ways and makes things like this a lot easier. It also helps to be bored at work.
