damn, nice work!

jon4pres 08-23-2007 6:33 AM

Very nice work. Looks good.

Did you replace the stringers or just the floor?

What is the chrome thing in the second picture from the bottom on the left side of the picture?

srock 08-23-2007 6:39 AM

Hose connection for fresh water flush.

Looks nice.

(Message edited by srock on August 23, 2007)

WOW! Looks great buddy. Can't wait to see that baby on the water in Bryan!

olskooltige 08-23-2007 6:47 AM

Yeah real nice work man. I didn't get as in depth with my restore, but I can imagine the amount of time you spent working on the floor. Carpet looks nice and plush.

csparks13 08-23-2007 7:20 AM

Leo, nice work. Will you be bringing it back to school with you? If not there's always room in our's for another rider. Let me know when you will be back in town.

K.B.C. 08-23-2007 9:57 AM

looking good leo, keep the updates coming

malibuboarder75 08-23-2007 10:18 AM

Jon, I took the boat up to Tennessee (SP?) to this guy who has been building and restoring boats for the past 35 years. He painted the boat and changed out the secondary stringers. He told me that the main stringers were solid as a rock. There were a few spots on the main stringer that were exposed. He grinded them down, then glassed over them to seal them. The hose is for fresh water flush. I don't plan on using the boat in our brackish water, it is mainly so I can run the engine in TX without being in the water. It also helps with winterizing. I plan on installing closed cooling if we do decide to use it in LA.

Cody-yes I am bringing it back. This is our club boat. Dude, you know I want to ride you guys' 210. Its like my favorite boat ever. I will be back this weekend. If I ever have a free weekend from the club, I'll definately tag along.

Steve- the floor took forever. I don't know how much time I have invested in it, but I got the boat back from TN mid July, and I didn't get the floor done till a week and a half ago.

I don't know why the teak looks so bad in that pic. We sanded it down and put 3 coats of oil on it. It shines like gold now.

Oh, and thanks to Matt Anderson, he donated the logos for the boat.

malibuboarder75 08-23-2007 12:06 PM

It's alive! I hooked up the hose today, put 5 gallons in the tank, splashed a little gas in the carb, and it started right away. Still running strong. We did a compression test after we took the engine out and we were reading 130-150 psi.

delbert 08-23-2007 12:55 PM

Leo, Where in TN did you get the stringer work done and were you pleased with their work? PM me with more information if you have a minute.

malibuboarder75 08-23-2007 1:09 PM

Bryan, here are some pics of the stringer work. Yes I was pleased. The guy does very good work and I was quoted almost half of what everyone else was charging. My only regret is that he used polyester resin, but I don't think its that big of a deal since he just replaced the secondary stringers which are sealed by the floor (and I used epoxy on the floor). Shoot me an email at leo0648@charter. net if you have any more questions or want his contact info.

olskooltige 08-23-2007 1:21 PM

Where did you buy your carpet?

malibuboarder75 08-23-2007 3:23 PM

Haha, its not carpet. Its truck bed liner. www.grizzlygrip.com.

jcv 08-23-2007 5:08 PM

Sweet Leo. Good work. If my schedule wasn't the worst, most spaced-out piece of crap I've ever seen, I'd actually be an official member this time around. Hopefully, I'll find time for a set or two. Any word on where you're going to store it? Our landlord was being a jerk last semester. Luckily, he let us keep my boat here for the summer since no one was here, but he gets anal when he's trying to show houses or whatever. So what's the ballast gonna be with the new engine?

luchog 08-23-2007 5:27 PM

I think that if the boat was made with poliester resin you can not put epoxy on repairs. Perhaps that's why he didnt use it.

Not sure, but maybe worth checking.

deuce 08-23-2007 5:32 PM

GREAT JOB LEO!!!

trace 08-23-2007 6:53 PM

Really nice work, Leo. Looks great.

malibuboarder75 08-23-2007 7:06 PM

Luciano, its the other way around. Polyester won't stick to epoxy. Epoxy will stick to polyester.

Hey guys, thanks for all of the comments. I wetsanded the deck, buffed, and waxed it. I put the rubrail, windshield, and ballast system back in today. The rubrail took 4 hours to put the new rope in. Definately not a fun chore. Some guys on the2001.com suggested using a pipe, it still took forever.

Jeff-The ballast is going to consist of a triangular tank I made to fit up front. The driver can use it as a foot rest, its only 10" tall. The back tank is also a fiberglass tank I made. I think my calculations had them weighing in at 850-900 lbs. I figure it is about close to the stock ballast on a SAN 210. Add a few guys and the wake should be really good. Sorry about your landlord. You should definately come out one day. Two kids from Athens are joining the club and they are junior pro material.

bmh2208 08-23-2007 8:04 PM

Looking good leo. Can't wait to see it out on lake b. Let me know when you want to have a club day on the 210. I'm more than willing to donate a day with the SANTE.

dave23 08-23-2007 8:34 PM

Where did you find the boxes for where your batteries are mounted in?

malibuboarder75 08-24-2007 5:12 AM

Brandon, any day you want. We will definately pay for gas. Maybe sometime in the next you few weekends.

hillbilly 08-24-2007 5:46 PM

Looks good Leo, I need some of your energy to finish mine. I had the stringers and floor replaced and got carpet in.....Now I need to get a couple broken bolts out of the block

malibuboarder75 08-24-2007 9:18 PM

Took the boat out today. Everything went suprisingly well. The ballast worked flawlessly. I was shocked. I just hope I sealed my fiberglass tanks well enough.

Jeff- Broken bolts?!? How did you do that?

mendo247 08-25-2007 12:04 AM

Awesome work Leo!

Someday i hope to have the time to do a similar project! Ive always wanted to restore a "wakeboat"...

hillbilly 08-26-2007 4:50 PM

Impeller housing bolts.....Replaced an impeller onthe waterand got a lil crazy with tightening them.

malibuboarder75 08-27-2007 7:26 AM

The project is finally done.

Here are the pics. The interior is a little shady, but I ran out of time. Today was the first day of class.

Thats pretty legit dude...well done

liquidmx 08-28-2007 12:45 PM

Looks great Leo!

ralph 08-28-2007 12:47 PM

You've done a killer job. Looks great!

blindmnkee3 08-28-2007 1:22 PM

Nice job Leo, just a few years too late for me! Haha, I probably would have joined the A&M waterski club with that boat running the wakeboarders around. Great work!

Adam
Class of '04

malibuboarder75 08-28-2007 1:41 PM

Adam, we are actually seperate from the waterski club. We don't charge nearly as much as they do. They charge like $200+/semester (which includeds gas). We charge a small membership and you pay for gas on an individual basis. Too bad you couldn't have joined, we are starting to get big. We will be helping throw the southeast regional qualifiers this semester for the CSTV collegiate nationals in the spring.

eubanks01 08-28-2007 1:45 PM

Adam - Blast from the past!

Nice work Leo. Only 5 or 6 years too late for me. The ski team boat's wake wasn't very nice for wakeboarding when I was there!

-Jarret
Class of '01

denverd1 08-28-2007 2:37 PM

looks good! nice work

xaggie 08-28-2007 10:02 PM

I demand on the water pictures!

C/O '04

blindmnkee3 08-29-2007 9:58 AM

Leo, thats awesome! I went out with the waterski guys a few times, no weight and no tower = no fun. Thats really cool that you took the initiative and got the wakeboarding going, wish I was still there!! Yeah, lets see some pics, how much weight are you running around with?

Jarret, Whats up buddy? Read some old posts about landing a HS 3 from you and it inspired me. Missed the 1st, then hit 3 in a row! 1st time in like 3 years. HAHA, it was awesome. TS Broll is next.

malibuboarder75 08-29-2007 11:47 AM

We are running 800lbs of ballast. It is almost fully automatic, all you have to do is flip a lever to let the water get to the fill pump, push a button, and the sacs fill. Then all you have to do is press a button to empty.

Here is the best pic I have.

blindmnkee3 08-30-2007 9:39 AM

Very nice man, very nice. Is that the greatness of Lake Bryan? Man, I'm Jonesin' for some Freebirds and the Texas heat!

Again, very nice work Leo!

malibuboarder75 08-30-2007 10:26 AM

Yep, great ole' lake bryan. Forget binding lube, the water has it already in it.

madison_boarder 09-05-2007 9:23 AM

Leo,

Is that a vinyl wrap or paint? I'm looking to restore the hull on my '81 Tique and I'm wondering how you went about it and what it cost.

thanks and congrats, hope you're enjoying your boat!

crghou 09-05-2007 10:25 AM

were you out on lake bryan this weekend?

malibuboarder75 09-05-2007 12:25 PM

Chris-Yep, that was us.

That is paint. I had a guy in TN do it. If you want more info, I can give you his contact info.

jeffcanary62 09-05-2007 2:35 PM

leo boat looks good. good luck with the club this year.

tyboarder03 09-05-2007 2:39 PM

Leo- Just curious as to why you didn't get the bottom of the hull painted as well?

malibuboarder75 09-05-2007 2:52 PM

The bottom of the boat had blisters from the previous owner. The blisters were filled and then the boat was bottom painted. I really wanted the whole boat painted solid. The guy said he couldn't gaurantee the regular paint because of the original blisters. So we put bottom coat.

tyboarder03 09-05-2007 2:59 PM

Thanks man. Just curious... but the boat turned out really nice though!! Is that all new interior also?

malibuboarder75 09-05-2007 3:02 PM

The interior had been redone when I bought it. We redid a lot of things. I built bases for all the seats instead of having stuff drilled into the floor with those metal seat brackets.

wakeboardin2k4 09-05-2007 5:37 PM

hey leo- how much weight does that tank under the bow hold? Its a great idea for placement

crghou 09-05-2007 8:01 PM

yeah i saw you all out there. boat looks really good.

darinmg 09-05-2007 8:32 PM

Leo,
Was this the first time out with the Pro80's? What did you think?

bmh2208 09-06-2007 11:08 AM

Chris, Leo...yall talking about Sunday?

Chris...was that you in the blue and white SAN? I am in the white and blue one.

BTW...there are now a crap load of wakeboard boats in town!

(Message edited by bmh2208 on September 06, 2007)
