What do ya think, I had one blade slightly bent about two weeks ago and it cost me $85.00, he had it done in about a half hour. Now I have two blades curled at the tips, charging $100.00 and will take three days. Is this a normal fee to be charging? and how many times can one prop be fixed?
Yup... Indefinetely as far as I know as long as it's not missing to much material.

(Message edited by 05mobiuslsv on May 02, 2008)

1 paid 110 recently and took a week
The shop I have used for years charges $110 and normally takes a week, he rushed one once when my spare was damaged and had it next day for no extra charge. A prop can be repaired numerous times.
Normal. I was out 2 weeks, $120.
Damn! I paid $140 and it took a week. $85 sounds great.
I bent all four blades back. $140 3 days.

North American Propeller
P.0. Box 13
Schofield, WI 54476
715-359-5204

$80 and it took about a week. It's been about two years, since my repair.
Jesse,
Where did you go to get the $85 for 1 blade. I have 1 bent blade but my regular guy told me that it doesn't matter if its 1 blade or 4, he always has to repitch all 4 so its $135. You are in the Sacramento area right?

There are prop repairs, and there are prop repairs. The best will put you back about $200. The will scan the prop with a laser, map it, and bring it back to factory specs. Most simply hammer the prop back to shape on pitch blocks and call it a day. Better ones will add extra material and balance it. If you don't ask, you won't know. Personally, I use Holland Propeller in Holland, MI for my ding work.
Karl I called ACME and asked them what they did when they rebuilt them. He told me that the shops that were certified and had the pitchblocks did the exact same thing as ACME would do in their shop, and using a "static balancer"? to balance it again. I just felt that much better just having the manufacturer rebuild their own product, and 2 weeks later a shiny rebuilt prop went back on and was perfect.
I had tacomapropellar do mine, came back shiny and brand new as well paid 110 including pre-paid ups to send it back to me.
Mark:

If you sent it to Acme, they send it out to one of a few shops in the area (my area is the same as Acme, they are 40 miles away). Holland Propeller is one of those shops. Acme does not maintain the in-house prop repair capability. They just CNC machine their own castings. It is an art and a hard, long skill to develop the knack for repairing props. Not everyone does it well. When you find a good shop, keep them in business.

Karl

paid 180 through the dealer
I paid the same, $180, through my dealer, and it took a while to get it back.
Just dropped mine off today and it is $115 and a week worth of waiting. All four blades needed some welding and then it need to be re-balanced as well. A lot cheaper then a $500 prop .
