Any old guys out there? I just started wakesurfing @ 54. Post pic's Don't let the kids have all the glory. Maybe if there are enough of us old folks we can get some competitions going.

I am Larry Mann, inventor or Trick Boardz, Surf Skate and Fresh Air Exhaust. I just turned 50 and will compete in any age division. I'm not that good, it's just that wake surfing is so easy on the body that anyone reasonably athletic who practices should be able to excell at the sport.

buzz_grande 08-17-2005 8:32 PM

Oh yea! 47 and just getting started!

dennish 08-17-2005 9:25 PM

Larry and Buzz,
Glad to see some old guys ouy there. Larry love your goofy foot wake. I am a goofy footer but tried regular because Jeff Walker and family ride regular. Also rode goofy on Jeff's Tige wave maker. Great to see other old folks out there.
Dennis

Please, let's use the term "older" because I'm damn sure not old.

dennish 08-19-2005 8:09 PM

Larry,
How about "experienced"? Really I want more people in our generation to be able to enjoy the water in a way that is not as hard on our older bodies. I would love to see the younger set get their parents involved in wakesurfing. You can't be old, by the time stamp on your post you are still getting up early.

08-19-2005 8:33 PM

Hey Dennis, don't let Larry fool ya, he's in Texas...an hour earlier than us. I would like to brag JUST a little. I just took second place in the Men's Amatuer at the World Wakesurfing Championship. I was about 20 years older than the average age of the competitors. I'd love to lay claim to being as in shape or skilled as some of the 18 year olds, but the bigger truth is equipment. As I'm sure Larry discovered, finding the equpiment that fits your style is of paramount importance. Speaking of which...Dennis...I'll start a thread on your board.

I'll be 53 in May...R
h

46 here, last year was my first year wakesurfing, although my dad tried to get my sister to wakesurf back in 1968.

Cheers!

(Message edited by Bigshow on January 23, 2006)

So Dennis what competition ideas do you have, ones that we all have to meet to compete or ones that we can participate from across the country?

dennish 01-23-2006 6:14 PM

EJS,
I thought that there should be a Masters division for us experienced ones so we wouldn't have to compete with the kids. LOL
Dennis

I see I'm in good company!

Just starting to wakesurf at the age of 51.
Well, should say... tryng to wakesurf.

I believe the key to longevity is distance running and mass quantities of beer.

goldmember 01-26-2006 4:25 PM

Finally tossed in the rope this summer at 49. Hurts less than wakeboarding when I fall. The best.

fly135 01-27-2006 8:18 AM

I just tried it recently for the first time. Really had a good time. Makes a nice alternative to wakeboarding. 50 here.

malibu 01-27-2006 10:34 AM

goldmember
I feel the same way about surfing. I like the soft falls and it is so much fun!! I'm 44 and have worn out both shoulders, so no more rope for me either.
Sue

and while 36 isn't exactly "old" yet (and please don't tell me it is) it's not young either so I thought I'd make myself feel better about another birthday and post one of myself.

dennish 01-27-2006 7:04 PM

Hey CA,
Glad to see that I am not the oldest. It was looking that way with all the young folk out there.
Dennis

bigshow 01-27-2006 7:09 PM

CA, my kids are 16 and 13, to them you're old. Don't know if that helps or not, no probably not.

joeshmoe 01-28-2006 4:59 AM

CA,that wave looks awsome! and 36, not old? ok, i won't tell you 36 is not old. 36 is definately very far from being young, the sooner you learn this, the better off you will be. i sure can't wait to start surfing this spring!

leaks 01-31-2006 8:13 AM
