What's been the most lame thing to happen to wakeboarding <BR> <BR>my vote - wakeboard pants <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/539771.jpg" alt="Upload">

watson_134_lf 01-29-2008 7:52 PM

what? <BR>no way dude, tell me those arnt recent

mvl 01-29-2008 7:57 PM

dude, no way, I rocked the Jet Piolet blues for a while back in the day. even wore them at comps. what a tool I was, but if they fit i'd bust out those bad boys yet today.

sidekicknicholas 01-29-2008 7:59 PM

I remeber shane wearing those in shafted or something... do you still have them?

mvl 01-29-2008 8:10 PM

think i gave mine away...got fat. still have another different type of pair, but way fat still for those. but i'd do it and bring it back.

lostkgb78 01-29-2008 8:54 PM

Classic!

2007_x2 01-29-2008 9:13 PM

i would rock a pair in neon colors

jarrod 01-29-2008 9:40 PM

The Wake Kite <BR> <BR>That tower extension slingshot gadget that practicaly yanks you into a raley. Shapiro was in the video.

da_kamp 01-29-2008 9:52 PM

what about wake goggles ? <BR> <BR>now those are pretty damn ghey

dmcguirt23 01-29-2008 10:21 PM

Twin tips. Who ever thought that would catch on? pffft

wakeworld 01-29-2008 10:30 PM

I think I'd rather be seen in those wake pants than in a full suit with no boardshorts, but either way I'm going to have to insist all cameras be stowed in their original and upright position!

clearlakescott 01-30-2008 5:07 AM

guess it is all a matter of preference because I was going to say wearing shorts over your wet suit. Only in wakeboarding does that happen.

andy_nintzel 01-30-2008 6:41 AM

f-f-f-f-f-f-F-F-F-F-FASERS-S-S-S-S-S-s-s-s-s!!!!!!!! <BR> <BR>They were supposed to help soften the landing but all they actually did was create a pocket of air around your huge dagger fin and make the board super slippery.

jarrod 01-30-2008 6:58 AM

"I think I'd rather be seen in those wake pants than in a full suit with no boardshorts," <BR> <BR>same here

timmy 01-30-2008 7:18 AM

why don't surfers or scuba divers wear shorts over their wetsuit?

spin2win 01-30-2008 7:23 AM

no body sees scuba divers. Scuba divers are so ugly they hide underwater. Surfers do on the spring suits.

jarrod 01-30-2008 7:26 AM

They're not wearing a vest. Got to keep it proportional.

nauty 01-30-2008 7:26 AM

<b>"why don't surfers or scuba divers wear shorts over their wetsuit?"</b> <BR> <BR>I think the difference is the life jacket. Since surfers don't wear a vest the full wet suit with no board shorts looks fine. Add a vest to that and it looks like you're not wearing any pants. <BR> <BR>All this talk about the need for board shorts over a wetsuit because of not wanting to see anyone's package is a bunch of BS. Why? because I don't think anyone's package is going to show through 3mm neoprene in 55 degree water. Can you say shrinkage? <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>

denverd1 01-30-2008 7:27 AM

because scuba divers have a helluva lot more to think about than staring at another diver's package.

wakedv 01-30-2008 7:51 AM

shorts over wetsuits, vanity insanity!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0>

roverjohn 01-30-2008 7:55 AM

Q: why don't surfers or scuba divers wear shorts over their wetsuit? <BR> <BR>A: Three digit IQ's <BR> <BR>Wearing shorts over a wetsuit is retarded. If you feel like taking the suit off do you wear another pair of shorts under it?

roverjohn 01-30-2008 7:56 AM

Looking forward to some dope rocking shorts over a drysuit.

roverjohn 01-30-2008 7:56 AM

Hell, Why not shorts over your shorts?

timmy 01-30-2008 8:10 AM

I have worn board shorts over mesh shorts surfing before during a bad case of surf rash. haha

jarrod 01-30-2008 8:15 AM

Why do we grab? Poke? Shift? Ride with style? <BR> <BR>Every wakeboarder is concerned with looking good out there. No shorts looks STUPID! That's why.

jealous_soul 01-30-2008 8:23 AM

you look like a ballerina when you wear a fullsuit and no shorts with a life vest on. it's silly.

roverjohn 01-30-2008 8:23 AM

not on me, I look awesome without shorts.

proho 01-30-2008 8:35 AM

shorts over a full suit is stupid. <BR> <BR>are vests really that thick that it makes you look unproportional?? so after your done riding you get into the boat and take off your vest and shorts so you can still be proportional, and put them back on when you want to ride again???

jarrod 01-30-2008 8:35 AM

post some pictures John, let us be the judge of that. <BR> <BR>I like the confidence.

denverd1 01-30-2008 8:38 AM

how come surfers don't want to look super cool and stylish? <BR> <BR>ah, the vest thing. so if you don't wear a vest, hypothetically speaking, you don't need shorts?!? <BR> <BR>(Message edited by denverd1 on January 30, 2008)

denverd1 01-30-2008 8:46 AM

wake pants on your suit anyone? <BR> <BR>moving on, i honestly think flex boards are silly. discuss...

timmy 01-30-2008 8:54 AM

Nacho you are right, wake pants to cover up those unsightly wetsuit legs.

dakid 01-30-2008 8:56 AM

tim, get on aim dude. i have a question for you! <BR> <BR>as you were.

wakeworld 01-30-2008 9:41 AM

Are you talking about Roam/Covenant style flex boards, Slingshot/Press type of flex boards or both?

rmcronin 01-30-2008 9:42 AM

Back to the topic at hand-trying to make wake bindings look like snowboard bindings.

ottog1979 01-30-2008 9:49 AM

I'm a surfer. Boardshorts over a wetsuit is way ghey.

denverd1 01-30-2008 9:52 AM

slingshot

stephan 01-30-2008 9:57 AM

Andy, what is the difference between a phaser &amp; a chevron? I thought they both were to try and loosen up the ride by creating turbulence. <BR> <BR>Another lame fad that didn't take off (hehe) was the wake sail thing that made your tower like 20 feet tall. <BR> <BR>What about honeycomb boards? Gator &amp; Byerly's pro model Flight 69s had a tiny patch of honeycomb in a foam board, because Hyperlite made HC a buzz word.

deltaridah 01-30-2008 10:04 AM

shorts over a wetsuit is a west coast thing!! We just ooze steez.

socalwakepunk 01-30-2008 10:05 AM

1. Riding bare chested, no vest...All time #1 gayest trend ever. <BR> <BR>2. Bashing raleys, nuclear grabs, etc... <BR> <BR>3. Even caring about what other people think is lame...

jermiside 01-30-2008 10:39 AM

the hyperlite "can opener" on byerly boards was a bad trend, or was it a fad? who made that? byerly or the guys that started ronix?

trickyboarder08 01-30-2008 10:51 AM

where do you buy those pants. I would wear them. Maybe not while wakeboarding, but definitely around town.

trickyboarder08 01-30-2008 10:54 AM

nevermind, I just found them. so, how many of these (£) equals one of these ($)

jarrod 01-30-2008 10:55 AM

I thought the byerly "can opener" thing was cool. I'm thankful that someone tried to change the shape of a wakeboard. At the time, they were beginning to all look the same. <BR> <BR>But, I didn't like the way the board rode. <BR> <BR>Alright....one of you surfers post up a picture of you wakeboarding with a wetsuit and vest / no shorts. I need a good laugh. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/rofl.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>Just playin fellas.

jealous_soul 01-30-2008 11:00 AM

one british pound is about 2 american dollars, so basically take the price in £ times 2 to get $. <BR> <BR>also, to all the wakeboard pant haters, these bad boys are straight gangster <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/540017.jpg" alt="Upload">

epic1 01-30-2008 11:26 AM

three digit iq's... funny <BR>that frame on the recent shane, I think, is lame in my oppinion.

andy_nintzel 01-30-2008 11:29 AM

Big Heavy <BR> <BR>There is a HUGE difference between a Phaser and a Chevron. The Idea of the Phaser was to cushion on impact, The Delta base on the 07/08 O'brien line is the same concept they use on the base of off-shore racing boats. It creates a channel of air through the base of the board to create less friction and there fore speed the board up, not make it looser. Go ride and Natural and check it out for yourself, it has to one if not "the" fastest 3-stage board on the market.

cpizzle 01-30-2008 11:38 AM

So gangsters wear those pants? Really. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0>

jealous_soul 01-30-2008 11:38 AM

sarcasm. <BR> <BR>though they are dangerously close to mc hammer's parachute pant style....

nickdakoolkat 01-30-2008 11:42 AM

wearing a wetsuite with no shorts is no big deal.....if you got supa swag underneath to show off <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0>

K.B.C. 01-30-2008 11:48 AM

pickle fork wakeboats <BR> <BR>sorry MC guys, had to do it<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0>

sethenol 01-30-2008 11:48 AM

hahaha I thought I was the lamest thing to happen to wakeboarding.

stanfield 01-30-2008 12:00 PM

$20k stereo systems and stripper poles in wakeboard boats.

joshbuzz 01-30-2008 12:22 PM

"pickle fork wakeboats " <BR> <BR>It's whatever. we can put a couple more people up there because of it, and it's unique without being over the top. just look at all the imitators since we came out with it!! <BR> <BR>Tige, MB, even Chaperal lol.

joshbuzz 01-30-2008 12:23 PM

at least you're an MC owner makin fun of it lol. At least we can make fun of ourselves!

eubanks01 01-30-2008 12:26 PM

The word "steeze".

seattle 01-30-2008 12:34 PM

"Go ride and Natural and check it out for yourself." <BR> <BR>Or the 08 Valhalla.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0>

nauty 01-30-2008 12:39 PM

Not so much wakeboarding, but more so the look of some of today's wakeboarders.....trucker hats worn at an angle and white framed sunglasses. <BR> <BR>Sorry, but these are one of those things that 5 years from now those who dig that style now will look back and ask themselves WTF was I thinking? <BR> <BR>Kind of like I do when I look at college pictures from 20 years ago and ask myself WTF was I thinking wearing Z. Cavaricci jeans <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>(Message edited by nauty on January 30, 2008)

trickyboarder08 01-30-2008 12:57 PM

Yea, that frame on the 06 shane. It was really Lame. I don't understand why they would have done something like that. That they stopped that after 1 year.

dakid 01-30-2008 12:59 PM

<blockquote><hr size=0><!-quote-!><font size=1><b>quote:</b></font><p>trucker hats worn at an angle and white framed sunglasses.<!-/quote-!><hr size=0></blockquote> <BR> <BR>wow, where do you live that they're still doing that? <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR> <BR>cavaricci jeans <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/rofl.gif" border=0>

nauty 01-30-2008 1:02 PM

<b>"wow, where do you live that they're still doing that?"</b> <BR> <BR>There were plenty to be seen at the Ft.Worth Boat Show a couple weekends ago. I'm sure there will be just as many at the Dallas show this weekend.

lfxstar 01-30-2008 1:02 PM

When I surf, i never wear boardshorts over my wetsuit, spring or full. You feel much freer out their with no baggies on. When I wakeboard, I will throw boardshorts over my spring suit, but im in south florida and luckily never really have to worry about wearing one

stephan 01-30-2008 1:24 PM

Thanks Andy, I'd try one if they were in a store, but no such luck. Way back when I bought my LF Free 135. Tony Finn sold it to us at the boat show, he explained their diamond phasers as speeding up the board and clearly Tony emphasized how diamonds are way cooler than round dimples. I bought it, hook line and diamond phaser. I think Tony could sell drugs to the Pope. <BR> <BR>Hows this for a fad? Grabs. I mean if Kovak had his way no one would be grabbing. Thanks god that fad stuck.

joshugan 01-30-2008 1:29 PM

Board shorts over wetsuits is a very lame trend. Most people laugh at the people doing it now and everyone will be laughing in 5 years. <BR> <BR>But ya'll who do it can keep preaching about hating the bulge, skinny legs, or whatever. (I love hearing the silly excuses you guys have for it! <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0> ) <BR> <BR>Steeze was lame from the beginning. <BR> <BR>OG was lame from the beginning.

nickbot 01-30-2008 1:46 PM

if i don't wear boardshorts over my wetsuit, the driver can't concentrate due to staring at my handsome bulge...it's a safety issue for me...

jon4pres 01-30-2008 1:46 PM

Some of the biggest violators of fads are boat graphics. They seem to jump on the fad too late and wait to long to move on to the next fad.

jermiside 01-30-2008 1:59 PM

can opener hyperlite i guess was a fad since no other company copied it to make it a trend. i can see the cool factor for makeing the board look diff from anything else. it just didn't seem really to improve anything. <BR> <BR>the current pro rider mustache trend...wtf?

jarrod 01-30-2008 1:59 PM

"Most people laugh at the people doing it now" <BR> <BR>Based on the posts to this thread alone, I would you're way off. <BR> <BR>I predict the opposite in 5 years.

eubanks01 01-30-2008 2:05 PM

Richard - I agree. The New Era hats with the bill completely straight and the huge oversized glasses. It looks like Flava Flav! <BR> <BR>I also don't get why people starting buying skater shoes when they start wakeboarding...and they have never skated in their life. To each his own but it seems strange to me!

wakerider111 01-30-2008 2:10 PM

What about the obrien copy cat of the byerly board????? or is no one calling it a copy??? <BR> <BR>a yer or so or less after byerly's board came out the crook fin boards from obrien came out and are still going strong

wakerider111 01-30-2008 2:12 PM

while on the byerly topic.... what about the "byerly hook"?... I mean it is AWESOME when byerly does it but far from awesome when someone else imitates it. <BR> <BR> <BR>... i am kinda quoting retrospect...

otown_dave 01-30-2008 2:22 PM

quote "if i don't wear boardshorts over my wetsuit, the driver can't concentrate due to staring at my handsome bulge...it's a safety issue for me..." quote. <BR> <BR>But I bet U and him have fun when you get back into the boat....

ttrigo 01-30-2008 2:34 PM

"$20k stereo systems and stripper poles in wakeboard boats." <BR> <BR>yep. lame. nothing wrong with strippers, but I would rather watch them in the safety of a dark room, and the aroma of peach perfume in the air. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/rofl.gif" border=0>

arizonarider 01-30-2008 2:59 PM

When its a really cold day and i'm wearing a spring suit with boardshorts over I feel like a badass cause people think i'm just wearing a heater top lol<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

dnp33 01-30-2008 3:23 PM

byerly never had crooks... <BR> <BR>imo board shorts over short wetsuits is cool. over long ones? it looks rediculous.

liquidmalibu 01-30-2008 3:46 PM

How funny was the throw back contest in Pre-Pop. haha, Shane had his long boardies, Byerly had a Hawiian Shirt. Horrell ended up riding with one binding... Murray had his Mayday gloves on. <BR> <BR>No trends are bad, at least once its been tried and has been unsuccessful we can all move on to progressing this sport. I'd rather they try the can opener early and get it out the way... we all know it aint coming back!

westsidarider 01-30-2008 5:24 PM

sorry in advance to my friends that rock them but helmets while not hitting rails

liquidmx 01-30-2008 5:41 PM

How about the whole spinning on the rail thing? I dont really like the 1080 across the rail. Now if your transferring or exiting/entering its all good. But while sliding? Press that shizz out yo!!!

westsidarider 01-30-2008 6:01 PM

yea ill agree with that matt.... unless your doing it undercarraige style where you pass the handle between your legs

solo 01-30-2008 6:14 PM

Did anyone mention gloves yet?
