Ford drops Mercury

Ford is finally dropping this boat anchor called Mercury.

People have been suggesting this for years. It makes total sense for Ford to postion Ford like Honda and Lincoln like Acura. Mercury, being the feminine version of Ford made no sense.

IMO, Ford do much better with this alignment.

Its been a long time coming and we are happy to see it. We had both lines at our dealership, we have about 200 new cars on ou lot 1 of which is a Mercury. Internet traffic is probably 50 to 1 for us Ford vs. Mercury. There was nothing wrong with Mercury they just didn't sell.

It's about time, last good Merc was in the early 1950s!

Now, GM just needs to drop everything but Chevy and Caddy and the playing field would be a lot less cluttered.

This down economy is a godsend for american car companies that desparately needed to restructure. Unfortunately, the US government got in the way and did not allow them to purge the UAW.
