clay_fraley 01-07-2008 12:22 PM

Ok i was just wanting to know what you guys were planning on learning, or accomplishing competition wise or sponser wise?

Ill start.
Mines pretty simple but it probably wont be a simple task but I want to do good on Jr. mens as my first year on the tour and just learn a ton of new stuff and have fun doing it and try not to lose sight on the reason I love to wakeboard. Ive seen people try to take it to serious and they just have no fun. My main goal is not to take it to serious thats most important

liquidmalibu 01-07-2008 3:02 PM

My goal for 2008 was to ride as much as possible. have heaps of fun with the guys on the boat and enjoy wakeboarding.

so far its been going really well. i went out the first five days of the year, learnt a new trick and had so many laughs.

to bad im back at work huh?

jarrod 01-07-2008 3:05 PM

To go bigger, grab longer, shift further, poke harder, and land smoother.

bbking 01-07-2008 3:07 PM

To get a tower... I hate my deckboat....

Trick wise I'd like to get every 180 down w2w, Backroll, and any 360. Go to the cable park and have fun for a couple days.
I'd really like to go to the Wakeboard Camp or The Boarding School... I'll probably try and go a week!!! So pumped

If I got a tower I'd probably attempt some raleys so maybe that?

andy_nintzel 01-07-2008 3:13 PM

back sevens. plan and simple.

goatroper222000 01-07-2008 3:13 PM

Brett,
before you go ahead and go to a camp(not that they arent a great thing, because they are and you would learn alot.) check out dave briscoe in winter haven. he is one of the best coaches in the world. thats prolly why they call him "the wakeboard coach". check out his sight for some more info, pics, vids, and such.. thewakeboardcoach.com

my goals for '08 are to get my mexiroll and TS frontroll consistent, tantrum, TS 3 and 5, and like clay said, not forget the reason i wakeboard..the pure love for being out on the water.

clay_fraley 01-07-2008 3:23 PM

J-Rod

Amen, haha. I would like to do that as well!

allen 01-07-2008 3:26 PM

To ride

bbking 01-07-2008 3:37 PM

Thanks Josh, I'll check it out. I live in Georgia so this may affect my decision but I"ll take a look at it.

goatroper222000 01-07-2008 3:52 PM

Definately. You can stay there for as long as you want im pretty sure. he has a house that he keeps for people to stay in like a camp. his prices are little bit more expensive but WELL WORTH the extra money.

jarrod 01-07-2008 3:54 PM

Since I have no technical ability, that's all I can focus on.

Back 7 Andy??? You're a f-ing pimp.

dakid 01-07-2008 3:54 PM

my goal for 08 is to ride.

dlwsrider 01-07-2008 4:34 PM

My goal for 08 is to beat clay at guitar hero.

and to hold my own wakeskating with the big dogs.

chrishopf 01-07-2008 5:15 PM

My goal is to invite a newbie every time I go out. My personal goal for myself is to work real hard on landing everything wrapped like Malinoski. On my plate to learn this year will be TS and HS mobes. Id love to finally stomp a roll2blind too.

radikal 01-07-2008 5:21 PM

to have a new boat or if i can say my first Wakeboard boat tired of riding behind a Sea-doo BOAT !!! but have fun anyway theres a lot of people that just dream of riding sitting on the bench on the shore so i dont complain !

vin 01-07-2008 5:25 PM

to have as much fun as i can

wakeslife 01-07-2008 5:45 PM

I'd like to learn HS FS 3's, get better at grabbing and poking my 180's, take by backroll to revert, and possibly a TS frontroll.

seattle 01-07-2008 6:16 PM

To actually ride away with the handle on my three.

To stay injury free.

clay_fraley 01-07-2008 7:19 PM

hahaha, caleb you may have a chance at the wakeskating but no way on the guitar hero!

dlwsrider 01-07-2008 7:33 PM

someday...

wakedad33 01-07-2008 7:47 PM

Clay, I can apprciate your enthusiam to do well and have fun on the Jr men's tour and not take it to serious, but you might want to re-think the not take it to serious part. I can assure you that your competition takes it very serious. Are they getting away from the "just have fun riding" part, maybe but it's the rules of the game at that level. Good luck next year, all the Jr men's guys are very cool to hang with.

bbr 01-07-2008 7:49 PM

Get some mobes consistantly, and have a ton of fun doing it. Also want to make it to the Wake Games, Nationals, and Worlds.....and do well.

clay_fraley 01-07-2008 7:55 PM

Randy, I dont mean not take it serious at all. cuz I plan on trying to make a living at this sport but I plan on taking it serious but not to much because I did that one year and I just wasnt having any fun. So Im taking it serious to a point and taking the contest portion serious but have days to go out and free ride not just practice my run over and over and over thats what gets me burnt out. But I see what you are saying and I understand

westsidarider 01-07-2008 8:03 PM

my goals are to get my 4 year old daughter riding by herself and to get my own boat so i can stop being a boat whore

wakeboardern1 01-07-2008 8:14 PM

Get one of my coworkers jumping the wake, get my sister jumping the wake, get a wakeboard boat (so close on that one... Just need to harass the dad enough), actually ride away from a backroll instead of falling just after landing... learn a raley, learn a 360, start solidly jumping switch, learn grabs. Compete and place in our lake's annual wake comp.

Avoid blowing my knee, cause I strained it last August on a backroll into the flats the first day that I tried them... Still hurts...

Oh yeah, another goal is to get my dad to finally get his new health insurance plan with his new company so that I can get my knee checked out...

mxflyer281 01-07-2008 8:17 PM

Crow Mobe, Whirly, grabbed 5s idk my list is too long lol dream big eh

hyperliteguy_04 01-08-2008 8:15 AM

hey im a boat whore to man......it sucks i know someday ill change that......my goal is to perfect my surface tricks and get enough air to star doing some good ones

romes 01-08-2008 8:39 AM

everything that i can do regular i wanna be able to do it switch...switch 3's(both hs & ts and fs & bs) switch tantrums, switch crows and fronts...i just started workin on switch toe 3's in Dec., and i wanna pick up here in the next few months and get back on it...

kylielogan 01-08-2008 1:38 PM

i'd like to get better on my skate. and since i'm closer to going w2w ts than hs, i'll shoot for that on my board!

bill_sloan 01-08-2008 5:09 PM

I want to get my fundamentals down better and get at least one two wake 180 down. And not hurt myself.

lfshane132 01-09-2008 3:28 PM

Indy toeside rolls as smooth as Chad Sharpe's double.

shredsickgnar 01-09-2008 8:02 PM

Have fun first off. I've had summers when I haven't had fun wakeboarding and its pretty much retarded.

I wanna do more wrapped spins, do creative tricks, ride with friends and double flip.

aces6692 01-09-2008 8:04 PM

to get fs 3, tantrum, and get more style

bbr 01-09-2008 9:06 PM

Callen, your always gonna be a boat whore!!!

How the hell you been? You should buy my boat.

andy_nintzel 01-10-2008 6:29 AM

Clay,

I cannot agree more with Randy on this. This summer I rode with a bunch of pros that are riding on the the tour in pro mens, the were less intense than the Jr. Mens riders. This is no game for the Jr's its serious stuff. I think that they are all aware that they are in a position where if things go correctly they can make a career out of it, if not its on to plan B-. There work ethic is insane, just for example AJ and Alex came out to ride 2 days for the MN tour stop, I bet that each of them took 8 runs the first day and 6 the next. Not your ordinary free riding, learning new tricks and taking a beating, Alex was working on slim 5s and Aj on Whirly 5 and Crow 5, its big business!

xbones 01-10-2008 6:42 AM

TS FS 3's
TS Backroll

apeljax000 01-10-2008 8:05 AM

I want to learn a BS 180 and land it blind and dial in my front roll and scarecrow!

parkgirl 01-10-2008 8:25 AM

I would like to get my Raley back in the bag. (because raleys get all the guys! j/k LOL!)

No but seriously, I need to stop being a chicken with it!

socalwakepunk 01-10-2008 9:04 AM

Was going to hold my tounge, but have to say this. As far as taking it seriously like Randy and Andy suggest, I disagree completely. AJ had all sorts of pressure on him to ride better, all for the sake of competition, since he was like 12, just starting to ride. I think it got to the point to where he ws not having much fun any more. He took a bit of a break, came back had his best year last year, the year that he said screw it, started to ride for himself. AJ now hangs out with Ricky and Randall, 2 other guys who do not focus on intense competition, rather pushing themselves just for the desire to ride, and have fun.

I have seen alot of cases of burnout. Riders who have been pushed way too hard either by themselves, parents, coaches, all with the sole purpose of winning. More often than not, the rider burns out, quits because something that was once fun and expressive, turned into something with so much intense pressure that it was no longer fun. If it's not much fun, what's the point anyway? Enjoy the competitions, but do it for yourself, how well you can ride, not how to beat the next guy. Push yourself, not for the win, but for the rush of the ride.

(Message edited by socalwakepunk on January 10, 2008)

andy_nintzel 01-10-2008 9:27 AM

Everytihng Tackleberry says is true as well as what Randy and I said. I have seen more parents hurt sports for the kids than help them. But a lot of these JRs are really hungery to ride with the big boys.

Ride for fun, if its not fun go do something else.

mammoth 01-10-2008 9:51 AM

To not get a concussion that limits me to flagging for a few weeks!

ldebbold 01-10-2008 9:53 AM

Hey Jeff, well said. I can't ride for beans but I've had so much fun trying and just hanging with my kids and their friends on our boat. Wakeboarding has been a blast of fresh air in my life the last two years. My personal goals for the year are just to keep trying to improve at my glacial pace and enjoy my new Rebel XTi.

deltariderscom 01-10-2008 10:15 AM

4 inverts and 3 spins, (Indy Tantrum, backroll, scarecrow, TS FR, HS 3, TS 3, HS BS 3)

socalwakepunk 01-10-2008 10:15 AM

Hey Les. Going back to WCC this year (session 2), Geri and Coops going back too. Are we going to see you there?

socalwakepunk 01-10-2008 10:23 AM

Oh ya, goals are to have hella lot of fun, and get Dana pumped out there (kid is going off on the tramp). If it works out, like to add some style, consistancy, another invert or 2 also.

stephan 01-10-2008 10:30 AM

I really want to grab my Roll to Revert Mute, and take it big into the flats. I'd like to get HS & TS Off axis spins. Definitely also thinking about trying a Batwing too. Grab my TS Backroll, and take it to revert ala Benny G.

parkgirl 01-10-2008 10:42 AM

eewww, batwing...me too!

romes 01-10-2008 10:59 AM

hey andrea...we'll drag Ry out one day this spring and we'll learn it from him...have you seen his batwing? HUGE that's all i can say

i got LIT up a few times tryin them last summer

(Message edited by romes on January 10, 2008)

parkgirl 01-10-2008 11:14 AM

cool. sounds good! Haven't seen Ryan's but seen Bud's, and Scott throws a pretty mean one too.

solo 01-10-2008 11:20 AM

Get a promotion to Senior Photog.
Get a cover shot.
Publish over 35 pages this season.
Ride more than Umali!

shon_g 01-10-2008 11:23 AM

Back 5's, dial in my TS 7 and HS 5's. And also what J-Rod said!!

lake_side 01-10-2008 11:26 AM

I would like to be able to afford gas so I can ride atleast once a week.

shon_g 01-10-2008 11:54 AM

Word to that TY!!

ldebbold 01-10-2008 2:20 PM

Jeff, I'd love to go back to WCC, but the old bones resist and I missed having my buds with me. For some reason, as stoked as they are on the sport they are pretty shy about the pressure they feel riding in front of pros. We hooked up with Brodie Chaboya on a day at Sonoma this summer and except for impossible blown out conditions we had fun. The crew wants to get him out on our boat again, so I'm hopeful for that to happen. Most important thing to me is keeping it fun, so I don't push.

lovin_the_wake 01-10-2008 2:52 PM

Well in 06 I got hurt towards the end of the season in 07 I got hurt at the beginning of the season so for the 08 season my I'm gonna try and stay injury free for the entire season

rmcronin 01-10-2008 3:19 PM

Oil prices to go back to $50/barrel.

lovin_the_wake 01-10-2008 7:14 PM

god that's the truth . . . not to hijack but what octane do you guys run in your boats ?

wake_passion 01-10-2008 7:32 PM

Clay

First I wanna say that it is awesome to see that you are a wakeboarder 4 Christ that is tight man not many guys can admit that like you do!!! My goal is to get through this winter wonderland without going crazy waiting to get on the water again. Hahaha Keep the faith alive bud!!!

laptom 01-11-2008 7:44 AM

Enjoy the time spend on the water!!

migs 01-11-2008 7:49 AM

08 Super Air 220.

clay_fraley 01-13-2008 6:39 PM

Jeremy-thanks alot man! It helps to hear that sometimes!

Tackleberry and andy
I see both sides and I think people usually decied wich route to take, and I think that Im going to start off the season just having fun and have a goal of learning a new trick everytime I go out, and maybe I will start getting more serious about it as the season goes on Im just scared of getting burnt out because i dont want to be tired of wakeboarding, haha

nvboarder 01-13-2008 7:24 PM

To go out and try a new trick and ride hard everytime I go out, and not just ride around and jump the wake for 30 minutes. Enjoy the sun, water and friends.

forwaken 01-13-2008 8:32 PM

not break!......

hawkeye7708 01-13-2008 9:24 PM

go Bigger, grab longer, tweak more, and try not to bust my boots and board again lol. 2 or three new tricks for the bag would be nice

da_kamp 01-13-2008 11:04 PM

get more consistant at holding my grabs out into the flats.

get better at switch

land that damn bs 180 without catching that insane edge afterwards.

and FS 3

rnopr8 01-13-2008 11:59 PM

Les....we will miss ya...my goal is to do my personal best at Nationals in the new Women's Masters Division...and to land a 3.

dizzyg 01-14-2008 9:59 AM

finally stick a toe front - I was so close last fall I could taste it.

finally stick a ts fs 3 - again, so close I want to cry

switch heel backroll - tried one at the end of the season, totally do-able

toeside backroll to revert or not I was getting close and then backed off of these after a hard fall or two.

I don't usually play this game but I am determined to land those 4 this season. And, hopefully early on to motivate myself for the second half.

roberts9 01-14-2008 1:29 PM

My goal is to land some 360's and to get more consistent on Backrolls and Tantrums.

jtnz 01-14-2008 1:57 PM

For 08 - Not stick the boat on the bottom any more, it's a pretty lame end to the day.

Land some inverts and try some 3s, get wake to wake jumps and 180s consistent. Work on riding switch and surface tricks. Get my sounds cranking again. Ride more often, maybe get a trampoline and/or an indo board. Try not to break anything...

burberry03 01-14-2008 2:15 PM

not to slap the jewels on a wipeout ever again!

marvin 01-14-2008 5:51 PM

HS FS 360's consistent again.
Grab backside 180's.
Front roll and scarecrow.

clay_fraley 01-14-2008 8:34 PM

Oh and another one is that Im goint to try not to break a single board or pair of bindings this year....but seeing as how I lost count of how many I did last year its going to be hard, haha

dlwsrider 01-14-2008 8:45 PM

i think you hit around $3,000 clay

clay_fraley 01-14-2008 8:56 PM

hahahaha, thank you diamond lakes and CWB for saving my wallet from drought!

da_kamp 01-14-2008 8:58 PM

Simon, that is very unlikly dude ;)

after 9 years i still do at least once or twice each day i'm out riding.
