I have a 2007 Supra 22SSV that has mysteriously developed a speedometer issue. The speedo appears to be showing about 50% of the actual speed. I called the dealer and was told it was probably some debris in the paddle wheel or missing/broken paddles and would need to be replaced if so.

Anyone else had any issues like this before?

Have you checked the paddlewheel?

Not yet. I have my boat in valet storage. I should be able to get it on a service rack this evening to take a look. Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this and how difficult it is to replace.

Is your Perfect Pass working okay? If it is then I would not think that there's anything stuck in your paddle wheel since PP and your speedo use the same paddle wheel. If that's the case check you adjustment knob for the speedo. That is if a 2007 SSV has one? My 2004 SSV has adjustment knobs to calibrate the speedo. Occasionally my knee bumps into them which ends up throwing off the speedo.

On the 07's, the speedo and Perfect pass are integrated and adjustments cannot be made with a knob, so I doubt that would be the issue. I'd be willing to bet that your dealer is right.

I had the same issue with my PP and Speedo on my Supra...it was showing about 20% of actual speed. I finally was able to get under the boat this past weekend and take a look. One of the arms snapped off the paddle wheel.

I called PP, and this seems to happen sometimes, so they make a replacement wheel that cost $15. Check your local dealer for the part, or call them direct at http://www.perfectpass.com/perfect_pass_contact_us.html and you can order one from them.

Also, my local Malibu dealer didn't even know they sold the individual part, so if your dealer says the same thing have them call PP themselves. That's what I ended up doing and now the dealer is ordering 10 kits.

Thanks! I crawled under it last night and saw that one had broken off as well. Did you replace the wheel yourself or have someone do it for you?

I had to order the part, so nothing yet.

The PP dude said it is really easy. From the topside of the top, you just unscrew the paddle wheel assembly, and pull it up. From there you just pull the old one off and put the new one on. It should be right under your tranny cover. Sounded pretty easy.

Maybe someone who has done it will chime in though.

bthom

What is the ETA on your paddle wheel? I called the dealer here in Austin and they don't have any in stock. I asked them to order two for me and I got a call this morning that they are on national backorder. I have called several dealers in Texas to see if I can track one down but have not been so lucky.

The local dealer here said 7-10 days...lets hope.

I have 2 boats on my lot without paddlewheels because I took them off and sold to customers. I've had my replacements on order for about 3 weeks. Maybe your dealer can give you one off one of his stock boats?

atx_supra_ssv 05-15-2009 10:59 AM

I was hoping that might happen, but no luck as of yet. When I was the Sales Manager for the Porsche Dealer, I was continuously pulling parts from my new car inventory to fix customer's cars for the weekend. I did find a dealer that said I should have one first part of next week. Perfect Pass says they will have more in Tuesday next week but wasn't sure if it was the right wheel or not. He said Supra uses their own wheel and it might be different than PP's wheel.
