Hey, I'm building my own skate but I'm having a hard time finding maple plywood that is thin enough. Would another type of hardwood be ok? Like Oak, Birch or Lauan? Are there any problems with these woods that I'm not thinking of? I don't tons about carpentry but enough to get a board together. What do you think?

Oak would be expensive but would work, Lauan is not a great material to try and laminate with, your best choice would be the birch. Some skateboards have be made from birch and it laminates as well as maple. Call lumber supply houses and ask them who carrys 1/8 or 1/16" vaneers. They shouldn't be that hard to find and you can order them for sure. I'm in So Cal but there are a dozen places within a 30minute drive that have that kind of stuff. GL
