Does anyone know if there are any regional wakesurfing events for 2008 in Florida. I read that there are supposed to be qualifying events in Florida for nationals but I can't find info on any such events.
Todd}

Todd, I believe somebody on this forum is trying to coordinate an event in Florida for late Sept/early Oct. There currently are no qualifying events for the NWL/AWSA Nationals being held in Columbus, OH in August. There are a series of state championships this year but they are not qualifiers. Next year, wakesurfing will be recognized as a discipline through USA Waterski which means that there will be a true sanctioned National Championship with the possibility of state/regional qualifiers. BTW, there are also no qualifying events for the world championships in Nashville.

I'm organizing Nationals, R.G. has it right. As the sport grows some day we may have to be concerned about qualifying. One key NWL requirement to compete at Nationals and earn the right to complete for a title is full USA Water Ski/USA Wakeboard membership. Depending on circumstances full membership is $30 to $65. That’s on top of the event registration fee. The key to competing at Nationals will be registering. More information to follow shortly.

Regards,

Ed
