San Diego Floatie Party
 

I took a little bike ride around Mission and Sail Bay today with the family. I heard a bunch of folks had been planning on having another bash in Sail Bay on floaties. For those that don't know, alcohol has been banned on all San Diego beaches. It's not illegal to drink if you out floating on something in the water, though. Here's a little video I took:

I was just talking about this at home this morning reading a few editorials in the SD Union. Some guy wrote in bitching about how much police time/money this costs to supervise. Thought it would be a great idea to ban alcohol in ALL of Mission Bay Park to kill it all together. The guy should have just said: nobody can have any fun, no matter what!!!

Honestly, I think this ingenuitive thinking is awesome! I'm not for wild out-of-hand parties that cause problems with fighting, property damage, etc. But geeze, what's it come to that the public can't have a little fun with a few beers on the beach at any time? SD City make a law that you can't have alcohol on the beach. Someone came up with a perfectly thought up alternative! AWESOME.

I think it's funny. I also wonder how they faired in the cold water too. San Diego in Spring is not exactly spring weather despite what you see in the photo!

I was pissed when the alcohol ban went into effect. We used to love having beach days with the fam while having a few beers on the beach. Again, the bad apples ruined it for everyone. Now people just get wasted in the "off the radar areas" and people are complaining about that.

Pretty frustrating.

Take away the beach and it looks like Lake Havasu. :)

Actually, this is another example of the ever increasing "have/have-not" rule. If you "have-not" a boat or floaty, you "have-not" a beer. :D What's next? Searching each and every cooler, as they hit the beach, to enforce the beer ordinance? I can see it now. 5 year old caught smuggling imported amber under drink pouches in kiddie cooler.

Looks like fun, but I disagree with the new rule!

I hope there wasn't any bottle/can sinking going on.
