Older Direct Drive Wakeboard boat under 20 feet and open bow
okay guys so im looking for a older dd wakeboard boat under 20 feet and open bow. what are some options that throw a great wake? The boat needs to be 20 feet or less since my lake has a 20 foot limit :(

Centurion made some under 20' with an open bow. The would be less than 10k from the '90s

I had a 2000 Tige 20i that was about 20' 6 inches if I recall right. It was titled as a 20 footer. I sold mine 2 summers ago for $13,300, and it had perfect pass, a tower, and racks. It didn't throw a giant wake by any means, but it was solid. That boat had a rear locker, and I was able to mostly fill a 440 pound sack and have it completely hidden. People will complain about the Tige's of that era, but I really had no issues with that boat. I did replace the interior when I bought it due to a combination of a couple missing cushions and the seams being bad on the doghouse and rear deck.

Supra builds the Sunsport which is probably one of the best surf/wake open family boats from the early era. Supreme made their Sierra model. Correct Craft made the martinique. A nautique supersport went for 9K this spring near me. All those are 10K or under boats, and open bows.

I use a Malibu response, put the wedge on it, tower (or pylon), have a 440 on each side of the motor box, and have another 300 in the bow before adding people + gear weight. As good as it gets for a low-displacement hull.

Andrew, you really want to be sure on the 20' limit. Does it matter what it is titled at, or does it matter what they measure it at? I suspect you want one that is under 20' when you measure it from stem to stern. Find out. It would not be fun to have a 20' 2" boat you just bought that is not allowed on your lake.

Andrew, are you talking the Malibu Sunsetter? Another solid boat, but I've never ridden behind one. I believe Malibu went full composite around 92? But finding one for under 10K might be a challenge. They throw a nice wake from what I understand.

I can vouch for the response too, but do not put a tower on it( the pylon works fine), thats like throwing money away, the reason the boats keep their price is because skiers are always looking to buy them( skiitagain.com ) I even surfed behind mine, not a big surf but definitely surfable, just make sure it has the wedge, I had to sell mine because I had a 2005 VLX setting in the driveway.

Has the response always had the diamond hull or did it ever have the "wake" hull like the echelon had?
Nevermind, I figured it out. 93-97 Echelon's and Response's had the SV23 "wake" hull. 98 and on Respone's had the SV23 Diamond hull. How much does it matter for wakeboarding wake does that matter on those boats? I would guess a big deal as usually the diamond hulls need more weight and with as low profile as those boats are it might be tough to get a lot of weight in one. |
i dont know where you are but just traded in my 1989 sunsport 20 ft and i think they are selling it for around 10k it has aluminum trailer and tower on it it in houston at rinker boat world

it was great for what it was i mean the hule was used untill a couple of years ago than supra changed it

Mastercraft 205V (20.5'). From 1999 to 2002 it was the X-Star, and the towboat of the X-Games and Pro Wake Tour. It also uses mastercraft's tournament approved 205 hull. Most have towers and can be had for 11-15K. Great all around boat. Over 30mph the slalom wake is almost identical to a DD 205. |
