Older Direct Drive Wakeboard boat under 20 feet and open bow

okay guys so im looking for a older dd wakeboard boat under 20 feet and open bow. what are some options that throw a great wake? The boat needs to be 20 feet or less since my lake has a 20 foot limit :(

rallyart 07-02-2013 11:47 PM

Centurion made some under 20' with an open bow. The would be less than 10k from the '90s
Can't comment on the wake.

illini88 07-03-2013 4:43 AM

I had a 2000 Tige 20i that was about 20' 6 inches if I recall right. It was titled as a 20 footer. I sold mine 2 summers ago for $13,300, and it had perfect pass, a tower, and racks. It didn't throw a giant wake by any means, but it was solid. That boat had a rear locker, and I was able to mostly fill a 440 pound sack and have it completely hidden. People will complain about the Tige's of that era, but I really had no issues with that boat. I did replace the interior when I bought it due to a combination of a couple missing cushions and the seams being bad on the doghouse and rear deck.

Supra builds the Sunsport which is probably one of the best surf/wake open family boats from the early era. Supreme made their Sierra model. Correct Craft made the martinique. A nautique supersport went for 9K this spring near me. All those are 10K or under boats, and open bows.

Jeremiah how old would you say is the best sun setter?

hco 07-03-2013 6:10 AM

I use a Malibu response, put the wedge on it, tower (or pylon), have a 440 on each side of the motor box, and have another 300 in the bow before adding people + gear weight. As good as it gets for a low-displacement hull.

FastR3DN3K 07-03-2013 6:26 AM

Was just about to post these in your other thread, but look in the classifieds on here. There's a couple good options that meet your requirements and look to be in good shape:

1998 Mailbu:
http://www.wakeworld.com/classifield....php?view=3510

2000 MC prostar 205, just needs a tower:
http://www.wakeworld.com/classifield....php?view=3453

1998 MC prostar 205, ready to go:
http://www.wakeworld.com/classifield....php?view=3447

There was also a 2002 X10 listed in your budget that looked really nice, but I'm pretty sure it's over 20' if I remember right:
http://www.wakeworld.com/classifield....php?view=3512

petrey10 07-03-2013 6:26 AM

i got a Tige 20i for sale if a 20'6" boat would fit the bill.... just email me at petrey10@hotmail.com for details

FastR3DN3K 07-03-2013 7:23 AM

20' Supra that is just a shade over your budget, but looks to be in really nice shape, and is pretty well set up:
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...-Legacy-360259

Nice looking Moomba, just needs a trailer:
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...back-LS-362006

Also found this Sanger V210 V-drive. They claim it's 20', but I'm skeptical of that. But for the price it's worth checking out (the outdoor patio speakers on the tower would have be scrapped though, LOL):
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/19...er-V210-351480

Another Sanger that has a power pole instead of a tower, but could get the job done:
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/19...-Sanger-356515

An older MB that needs a tower, but already has PP:
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...Plus-101687604

There's a bunch of options out there, you just have to search a bit harder to meet your criteria. And remember to look just a little over your budget too. Honestly there's no reason that you shouldn't be able to negotiate someone's $17,000 price down into your budget. If not, you're not trying nearly hard enough

rallyart 07-03-2013 8:47 AM

Andrew, you really want to be sure on the 20' limit. Does it matter what it is titled at, or does it matter what they measure it at? I suspect you want one that is under 20' when you measure it from stem to stern. Find out. It would not be fun to have a 20' 2" boat you just bought that is not allowed on your lake.

rawB 07-03-2013 10:21 AM

I'd look for a prostar 205 or 190 or a nautique 2001.

Dmac420sj 07-03-2013 10:58 AM

You need to go to a different lake!

machloosy 07-03-2013 12:08 PM

Andrew, are you talking the Malibu Sunsetter? Another solid boat, but I've never ridden behind one. I believe Malibu went full composite around 92? But finding one for under 10K might be a challenge. They throw a nice wake from what I understand.

The boat is located in Fieldale, Virginia.
It has absolutely no mechanical problems, no scratches, it is like new, clear title in hand. The price is $14,500 for it.
The pics are attached.
The deal will be done trough Amazon Payments (visit their website: Amazon Payments), I want to use them because I'm not able to close the deal myself.
Let me know if you are still interested and I will explain you the deal.

Thank You!

Super solid boat that is right on 10K(with negotiating) and fits your limitations.

Agree totally! My Malibu Response I'm selling in the classifieds has a solid wake when u put the wedge down, 700 lbs in the back & a 400 lb bag in the front. Pretty decent pop too! The engine doesn't even think about struggling either. Just selling to get more room for the kids. Good Luck!

joeshmoe 07-03-2013 6:35 PM

I can vouch for the response too, but do not put a tower on it( the pylon works fine), thats like throwing money away, the reason the boats keep their price is because skiers are always looking to buy them( skiitagain.com ) I even surfed behind mine, not a big surf but definitely surfable, just make sure it has the wedge, I had to sell mine because I had a 2005 VLX setting in the driveway.

polarbill 07-03-2013 6:48 PM

Has the response always had the diamond hull or did it ever have the "wake" hull like the echelon had?

Nevermind, I figured it out. 93-97 Echelon's and Response's had the SV23 "wake" hull. 98 and on Respone's had the SV23 Diamond hull.

How much does it matter for wakeboarding wake does that matter on those boats? I would guess a big deal as usually the diamond hulls need more weight and with as low profile as those boats are it might be tough to get a lot of weight in one.

theboy 07-03-2013 7:25 PM

i dont know where you are but just traded in my 1989 sunsport 20 ft and i think they are selling it for around 10k it has aluminum trailer and tower on it it in houston at rinker boat world

07-03-2013 8:23 PM

austin how was the wake behind the sunsport?

theboy 07-03-2013 8:59 PM

it was great for what it was i mean the hule was used untill a couple of years ago than supra changed it

07-03-2013 10:03 PM

do you have any pictures of the wake?

How does that boat fit his needs when it's 21' long? Great boat, too bad it won't be allowed on his lake...

Because the people advertising the boat don't actually know how long it is. Supra's Sunsport is 19'6" and I have spoken with several folks right at Skier's Choice to confirm this. It's nice to have it listed on the registration as 19'6" when a police officer asks!

Not all sunsports are 19'6" are they? It is weird that in the 80's they were that length but in the 90's they went to 21. I figured they kept the running surface the same but changed the above water line some.

You might have a point... I entirely forgot that the boat changed. If that's the case, I stand corrected

willg 07-08-2013 12:49 PM

I know you said DD, but:

Mastercraft 205V (20.5'). From 1999 to 2002 it was the X-Star, and the towboat of the X-Games and Pro Wake Tour. It also uses mastercraft's tournament approved 205 hull. Most have towers and can be had for 11-15K. Great all around boat. Over 30mph the slalom wake is almost identical to a DD 205.

I don't know where you're finding 205V's for 11-15k on a consistent basis, but let me know so I can flip them and earn about 10 grand profit on each one. More realistically these boats are priced in the 19-25k range. The 205 DD will be closer to 11-15k.
