I changed out my prop and my RPMs have changed quite a bit. With my factory prop I was running a little over 3000 rpms at around 30 mph. With my new prop I am running around 5000 rpms at 30 mph. Is this a normal change? My factory prop is 14x17, and my new prop is 13x14.

Well the rpms are going to drop when you pitch down but you pitched down and reduced the diameter of the prop. so 30 mph or so will be your top end since your engine will rev limit at 5300 rpms or so......did someone recommend that prop???

(Message edited by krbaugh on July 08, 2007)

sounds like your first prop was close to being right, why did you change? 5000 @ 30mph is over- reving quite a bit, but i'll bet you got some bad arse hole -shot!

I changed props due to the hole shot being horrible w/the factory prop and the boat weighted down. I had to lower the pitch to get the hole shot I needed to get on plane. The new prop has an awesome hole shot but I didn't expect it to take that much from my top end away. Not that I care I don't go over 27-28 unless its about to storm and I need to get back to the dock. I also noticed it used more gas than usual. Is that normal as well?

Yes it would use WAY more gas. 5000 RPM's is way to high for your engine. It was not designed to run at red line rpms all the time.
Did some one recommend that prop?
Not only will that prop empty your wallet it will shorten the life of your engine
I would talk to Eric at OJ props ejojprop@aol.com or Bill Weeks at Acme bweeks@acmemar ine.com they can recommend the right prop.

The 13 X 14 prop is for a 1:1 transmission, your boat has a gear reduction transmission. I would suggest our 14.25 X 14 LC 1 1/8" XMP EDGE 4-blade for your application. I built the XMP EDGE line of propellers just for the wakeboard boat. Give me a call if you have any questions.

Eric @ OJPROPS
800-359-9730

Thanks for all the helpful info. I will be taking that prop off before my next outting. I had the prop sitting in my basement and my dealer told me it would be ok to put on the boat. I just cannot afford to put 400+ into a new prop right now so if anyone knows were I can get a good deal on a new or used one that would be awesome.
