So I finally got around to snapping a few pictures of my new setup for 09. THE 09 RONIX VIVA.

The board seems a little bit tighter than it was with the molded in fins. The landings are soft and also very forgiving. The takeoff is a bit more abrupt than the Covin but it still takes you out and up, rather than just up. It is very responsive and sets a nice edge. However, it is hard to really say how it truly rides cause I am still getting the feel for it.

(Message edited by sdahockey21 on December 02, 2008)

What happened to this being a molded-in fin board?

12-02-2008 2:04 PM

Some of the other cool new features that I love for 09 Ronix is the clip for the pull handle. It is super easy to clip it in with just one hand. Which is great when you realize once you're riding that you forgot to clip on the pull handle

Oh ya, and this board has felt accents! A super fresh touch.

(Message edited by sdahockey21 on December 02, 2008)

sidekicknicholas 12-02-2008 2:15 PM

looks real nice... is this a cont. rocker?

benjaminp 12-02-2008 2:56 PM

Love those graphics. If only it were a three stage.

homedawg678 12-02-2008 3:02 PM

Damn thats a sick setup. Those bindings are the cells right?

cbk 12-02-2008 3:02 PM

Nick - Hybrid three-stage rocker.

Ben - You are in luck, it is a hybrid three-stage.

12-02-2008 4:49 PM

Ya, Those are cells.

I am really for the hybrid 3-stage / continuous. best of both worlds.

12-02-2008 4:52 PM

Nate, sick shop interview in Alliance bro.

I talked to Brett recently but I forgot to ask him why they went with the 4 fin setup instead of the molded fins. Whats the word?

player138 12-02-2008 4:53 PM

Are the fins still the 1.0"? I found the Covin too tight with with 1.0s for my liking.

12-02-2008 4:54 PM

the fins on the viva are 0.8" and is not a tight at the covin

player138 12-02-2008 5:09 PM

Cool, that's what my Covin has now too thanks to some careful grinding. Much better than the 1.0s. The Viva looks great, I'm a big fan of the graphics.

wake2wake_66 12-02-2008 8:22 PM

Totally getting that same setup.... Anybody ride the Bill though?

chrism4668 12-02-2008 9:39 PM

Such a sweet setup!

Sam You didnt put up this second fresh touch graphics on the base of the binding!

dgs 12-03-2008 1:53 AM

Had a few rides on my bill now its really really sick. riding the 142 lands so fast and soft in the flats. riding it finless nice and skatey.... Its just a really fun board. I have been riding a watson and I rate it better than that. saying that I have only had a few rides on it so.... oh yeah and the relik boots are off the hook. all the ronix gear this year is off the rails... just go demo or buy some. you wont be disapointed trust me... I wasnt

chrism4668 12-03-2008 2:03 AM

Does any one out there know of where i can find the pics of the other bases in the ronix line? The one, relik, Kai? I think the one just has ronix in gold on the bottom.

wake2wake_66 12-03-2008 6:01 AM

You can see the bases of some of the other boots in the 2009 Ronix catalog.

chrism4668 12-03-2008 10:23 AM

is the catalog anywhere online?

chrism4668 12-03-2008 3:39 PM

just checked the new ronix gear out the bindings are so much lighter than anything available (except for hyperlite which were not in yet so cant comment there). does any one know has the foot bed got a shape before you mold it or is it just flat?

wake2wake_66 12-03-2008 7:22 PM

Chris, you can pick up a catalog at any board shop that sells Ronix.

polarbill 12-03-2008 8:16 PM

From what I hear they went away from the molded in fins because people thought the board was too loose.

chrism4668 12-03-2008 8:33 PM

Too loose with 2 molded in fins and a center fin? changed to 2 outer fins no center fin

wake2wake_66 12-03-2008 8:35 PM

Chris, I was totally thinking the same thing. That makes no sense.

12-05-2008 5:18 PM

I should be riding again soon if the weather is nice. I will try and get some riding pictures for you guys.

cbk 12-05-2008 7:14 PM

"Too loose with molded fins" = True

They went to 1.0 removable fins that are set a little further apart than the molded ones were. It was definitely loose. I have both versions at my shop so I'll pull them down and take closer note at the differences and report back.

chrism4668 12-05-2008 10:22 PM

would the viva be suitable for an intermediate rider? I am currently on the 06 murray.

cbk 12-06-2008 5:42 AM

I think that most board manufactures have started driving their models to fit any skill level for obvious reasons. To answer your question, I do think an intermediate rider would be fine on it.

chrism4668 12-06-2008 3:50 PM

Thanks Nate.
Yeah i was looking at either it the Mana or the new murray i know very different boards but the ronix stuff has just blown me away with how light they have been able to make their bindings to the lightness of the board. now i just need to get some demo time and a decision will be made i cant wait to try out the ronix gear on the water!

cbk 12-06-2008 3:51 PM

Scratch the pics.....no reason for them. I was wrong on the 1.0's, they are actually 0.8's and they are in the same place as the molded ones were. So, the only change was the removable fins that are .8's.

chrism4668 12-06-2008 8:42 PM

Nate which of the ronix line would be similar to the Murray? Was thinking either of the upper Ronix models (one, viva, ibex, mana)

cbk 12-07-2008 6:39 AM

I just responded to the other thread "Ronix Riding Style" I would really consider the 09 One. Not sure if it will be similar to the Murray as I have not ridden it.

chrism4668 12-07-2008 1:49 PM

thanx nate will be checking it out

jayroe65 12-11-2008 1:11 PM

I am thinking about trying this board out how do you get it with just the 4 screw in fins or can you order one like that or can you not get it at all?

(Message edited by jayroe65 on December 11, 2008)

chrism4668 12-11-2008 1:14 PM

thats how they come now no more molded in fins

tom_paz 12-11-2008 2:06 PM

Sam Adams - how come it looks as if the rear boot is all the way out at the 4th hole but the front boot is at the 3rd hole? Shouldn't both the 09 board and boots be compatible and not require adapters? unless you just prefer to ride tail heavy?

12-11-2008 2:55 PM

The 09 boots are on a new 6 inch plate and 09 boards are on a 7inch hole pattern. So when you ride the 2nd hole in from the tip or tail, the corresponding hole the boot matches up with is the 4th hole from the center of the board. To answer your question, my boots are centered, it just appears as if they are not because of the new sizing

12-11-2008 3:19 PM

This is how I think of it. With the 07 and 08 Boots the boot holes were essentially 2 inches away from the boot on each side making the overall plate 8 inches boot hole to boot hole.

Basically what Ronix did for 09 is they moved those boot holes closer to the boot. The boot holes are now essentially 1 inch away from the boot on each side. Making the plate 6 inches boot hole to boot hole.

Therefore if you rode "all the way out" (4th insert) on 07 or 08 Ronix boots. You would actually end up riding the 3rd hole with 09 boots because the boot hole is 1 inch closer to the boot. Your boots are still in the same position, you are just locking into a closer insert, making it appear as if you are not actually riding all the way out like you used to.

get it?

chrism4668 12-11-2008 10:34 PM

Makes sense the actual binding is in the same place just an inch less plate on either side so it opens up a hole that would normaly be covered by the extra inch of plate

12-12-2008 2:49 PM

Exactly

needacar 12-12-2008 8:13 PM

Sam the board looks awesome. so why did you choose the cells?

chrism4668 12-12-2008 11:29 PM

Sam love the setup. Can you post pics of the ronix spacers? would be interested in seeing how they fit on.

chrism4668 12-12-2008 11:30 PM

Spacers/adapters

12-13-2008 6:50 AM

Hey needacar (Joshua) I chose the cells because they have a really quick response to them. I really think it allows you to edge harder.

Chirs Here are the some pictures of the spacers and the thumb screws for you bro.

The spacers have "teeth" that grip onto the the binding. Then you use the new ronix thumb screw to tighten it down.

You Take off the special Ronix teeth washer

12-13-2008 6:52 AM

And here is the end result.

kristian 12-13-2008 7:45 AM

The spacers work really well.

wake2wake_66 12-13-2008 2:26 PM

I thought the spacers were for older boards? What would be the purpose of having them on an 09? Where did you get them?

Sick setup Sam!!

cbk 12-13-2008 3:24 PM

The 09 boards are still set up to fit the old bindings without using the spacers.

sidekicknicholas 12-13-2008 3:27 PM

So are the spacers just a new fancy version of the "Claw" or do they feel more meaty... I tore the the claw mounting stuff up more than once

chrism4668 12-13-2008 4:26 PM

Thanks Sam for the pics.

Ok bare with me on this one ill try and explain as well as i can.

If sams bindings are all the way out with the most outer hole still vaccant could you not move the bindings all the way out and use the adaptor on the inside so it reaches the most outer of the inside holes so the binding plate is 7 inches?

12-13-2008 7:46 PM

The Spaces are way more meatier than the claw. Solid aluminum beats plastic. Ronix went all out in 09.

Chris you nailed it. If you ride on the final hole you will have to use a spacer on the 09 boards and bindings however because the bindings are on a 6 inch plate now. Riding the final hole is actually riding out further than ever possible. So any of you guys that always wanted to ride further out, now you can. It seems confusing but it is really simple. But Chris you seem to get it.

The spacers come with every pair of the higher end boots. So you may get them and not need them.

(Message edited by sdahockey21 on December 13, 2008)

chrism4668 12-13-2008 9:16 PM

yeah thats sweet nice a wide stance they do look very beefy cant wait to get mine!

tom_paz 12-14-2008 12:09 PM

So if you use the spacers on 09 board/boots you can ride further out than the "maximum" advertised stance? But this would require only using the spacers on the inside? If so thats pretty sweet as I was considering riding the 144 viva to get a 25" stance, but with the spacers I could go beyond the 24" stance on the 140?

wake2wake_66 12-15-2008 7:06 PM

What are the main riding differences between the 09 Ronix One, Mana, & Ibex?

I have never ridden these boards and are looking into some of the 09 Ronix Boards. I have heard there is not much of a difference in these three boards

12-21-2008 11:43 AM

Tom, I am pretty sure that is the case. I will post a picture of the diagram that ronix includes in the boot box of the different setups. IE: 2009 Boots w/ 09 Board, 2008 Boots w/ 08 board, 2009 Boots w/ 08 board, etc. They draw it out really nice.

12-29-2008 10:02 AM

Got one riding picture for you guys. Went out for a run behind the old fishing boat. 0 wake...

This board seems to have a very lively Ollie.

(Message edited by sdahockey21 on December 29, 2008)

That is a great looking setup. My roommate has the Cells on a 2008 Covin. It looks good as well.
