Can you pull the motor and leave the trans in on a direct drive? I see a bell housing and the trans bolts to it. what connects it to the fly wheel? Can I pull the trans loose from the bell housing and pull the motor and bell housing assembly?

Yes, i believe its eaiser to pull both then separate when its out.

Darrel's right, went through it this summer. Nothing to it. <BR>You'd have alot more on your hands trying to pull the motor by itself. <BR>Pull the rear center floorboard and you'll realize it's a no brainer.

it would be pretty hard to pull the tranny seperately there are a couple of difficult bolts to get to. overall the process is really easy and im not a mechanically inclined guy.

On a previous boat (direct drive) I have removed the transmission and left the engine in the boat. A couple of the bolts were a challenge but it wasn't too bad. <BR> <BR>If the object is to get the engine out then I would say pull them together. You need some sort of hoist or crane to lift the engine anyway so hoisting another 100 lbs is no issue. It would be a lot easier to get the transmission off the bell housing while it was still hanging from the hoist than going through the hassel of turning a bolt 1/32nd of a turn at a time....

You need to pull them as one unit. The shaft alignment is set at .003 to try and re attach the unit in the boat is unheard of. You will never achieve this otherwise.

IMO, While the trans is out, it a good time to check the seal. I'm sure you were planning to, but just wanted to mention it...
