Malibu swim step warranty?

Heya,

Just got back from an evening on the river. Was heading back to the dock, loaded the boat, then went back to wipe it down. Lo and behold, my swim step is gone! It was the fiberglass type on a 2007 Malibu. It appears one of the clips that hold the platform on the brackets came loose and fell out. Once this happened, the other side of course ripped right off. No idea where it happened. Didn't really hear anything.

Question is would this be covered under a warranty for a somewhat crappy design? The pin clips they have aren't the best and I believe I've seen it come undone one time before, but I wasn't sure if that was just the kids playing around the boat since I've been running it for 3 years without issues.

Any ideas? I'll be hitting up the shop tomorrow.

Good luck with that. Why would Malibu warranty it if you lost a clip?

The only reason I may think that is because of the design. I know I'm reaching a bit but... No reason they should be using a clip if something like this could happen. There is no way in heck you can "maintain" something like this.

More hoping than anything. I can't imagine how much the are going to want for one of these.

they are pricey check out ebay for used

If it's that poor of a design, why couldn't Malibu be on the hook? I guess my question would be how often does this happen? If this is an isolated occurance, you're probably SOL.

I guess they have changed the design, but I haven't seen the new mounting system. I'm assuming they changed for this reason but it's just a guess.

i havent heard of anybody else,so i dont think its a common problem. They have a few different pins through the years and i doubt its for platforms falling off. I say just bad luck, Salem Ore craigslist had one for 250 yesterday.good luck

Would you have a link to the one in Salem?

Shawn that sucks. Were you on the columbia river when you lost it?

I agree that it is a design flaw Shawn. We had our Axis out this past weekend and realized we lost one of the pins (same pins they have on malibus) out of the swim deck. Luckily we noticed it in time to not lose the whole swim deck. Went to home depot spent about $2 and got bolts to bolt it on. Called the dealer first thing Monday morning and they have new pins for us. Probably going to just use the bolts though as we don't remove the swim deck for storage.
