Hey mastercraft guys I am trying to figure out what the difference is between 2000 205V and an X Star? The 205 V has tower and ballast and perfect pass. Are the hulls built different or something. Just trying to get an idea on whether to look for a true X model or a 205V set up like one. Thanks for your help.
depends what year x-star you are talking about. The 205V is the same boat as the OG X-Star. Something like 99 through 02, then it became the X-2 and now the X-1.

The hull on the 205, both DD and Vdrive has been the same since 1996. The hull was also the old X-star turned x-2, and now the X1. If you find a 205 v with ballast, tower, PP, then you have an old xstar/x2/x1. Just not paying the markup for the xstar

what is the difference between the 95 and 96 hulls of the 205

Don't know. I just know that they started that hull in 96.

The boat I am looking at is a 2000 205V with all the fixins just not factory ballast fat sacks with pumps etc. Its in great shape just did not know if there was a big difference in the hull since they became X Stars. I assumed the old X Stars were set up with different options and a "cool" sticker on the side and thats what made it an X series boat.

Same hull. The differences would only be the sticker, and the x series stitching in the vinyl. Perfect Pass also if yours doesn't have it.

And in 96 it was direct drive only. Not sure when they went to the v-drive config. 1999 maybe?

Only 'fat sacks with pumps' for the 2000 was a single center bag with an aerator to fill and one to empty...that's it. You'll have a killer wake if you can get @1800lbs+ in it. That hull has a 'sticking' point for ballast weight....kinda weird. The wake doesn't grow that much up to like 1300-1500lbs...check out a fully loaded STOCK 01Xstar...not that big of a wake. Once you reach 1700-1800lbs...it grows both up and out(full). Very nice.

The pre '96 was a different hull altogether. I used to date a girl with one a few years back and it was a pretty decent ride, too. I never rode it heavily weighted, though, so I couldn't compare it to the newer X,X1,X2 hull.

Those 205v's are a great boat with all the potential of an older X-star. Those with some time on their hands may prefer to find one of those as you could do a custom ballast and get a newer style tower on it. There's a guy doing a ballast install on one right now in the boats/accesorie discuion area.

I think 99 is about right. Thats when the first vdrive star came out. I think '97 was the first official Xstar in the DD form.

Yeah its a V drive with tower, racks and PP 560 hours just serviced and fresh only. Just did not know much about the differences and from what I see once you add PP, Ballast, and Tower there are no differences in the year 2000 model.

No hull difference. Pictured are xbdr1 '01 X-Star, a '01 205V (correct me if I'm wrong on the years xbrd1), and our '04 205V.

FYI...We bought our 205V knowing it was the same hull as the X-star/X2/now X1 so we could build it up to wakeboard status ourselves.
