Hello everyone! My name is Doug and I am the organizer for the Walled Lake Beach Party - Wakeboard Rail Jam and Tournament. In 2008 we had a Rail Jam on Saturday and Wake Tournament on Sunday. The problem was all the Advanced and Outlaw riders partied it up on Saturday and could not make it to register early Sunday morning. With that said, I was considering a surf competition on Sunday. I would think you do not need glassy conditions to surf, so the event could be held later in the day.

Doug, forgive me, but I'm not sure if you are asking a question or just informing us. I hope you host a wakesurf event and thanks for the info. However, we like smooth water too.

Sorry I did not refer to the topic as "wake surfing" my bad. Most wakeboard tournaments start early in the AM to get the best glassy water. I would like to start a WakeSurf tournament in the late morning (10:00am). Is there a fixed area or course that the boat travels?

There are two basic "concepts", that I am familiar with. One is a fixed distance, common lengths are 800 to 1,500 feet, although 800 is very short. The longer distance is usually around a 90 second ride, depending upon speed of the boat. A timed standup distance is the same concept, so folks would put a rider out and ride the course, marking the begining and then the end is determined at say 90 seconds in...or whatever the organizer felt was an appropriate time.

In MN, they had a great concept, they gave all the riders 5 minutes, including falls, and you rode until your time was up! That was fun.

I think the fixed distance is the most common format.

If you'd like I can email you our rule set that also includes course recommendations.

What part of that state up north are you at? Near Detroit? I know a couple of a wakesurfers up your way that are interested in holding a wakesurf competition. If you have one set up maybe they would be interested in helping you out.

The Ohio Board Sport Club is running the Indiana Wakesurf Championship at the Muncie Water Bowl on June 27/28 and the National Wakesurf Championship at East Wood Lake on July 31 to August 2nd.

You’re running wakesurfing after wakeboarding and that's at 10:00 AM. I've never seen a conscious wakeboarder before 10:00 AM. The wakeboard/wakesurf competitions that I’ve run take about a day to run 40 to 60 riders. How many wakeboarders do you typically see at an event?

Calm is better.

I am near Detroit. I need to pay the bill for my web sight provider to get www.wlwake.com back up. Last year we had the following dealers present:
Skiers Pier - Malibu
Action Water Sport - MasterCraft
Club Royale - Supra / Moomba
Aqua Sport Marine - MB
Sunset Marine - Tige

I also take the annual pilgrimage to Surf Expo.

Alot of people come out to the Beach Party. We have a restaurant on the lake that we operate from. ALot of different things going on, so it draws alot of people outside the sport.

Let me know the contact info of the individuals in MI who are planning the Wake Surf event.
