Favorite Air Nautique?

I'm looking for a new boat and I really have liked the wake on all the nautiques I have been on but there are quite a few I have not been behind and I'm looking for some opinions on which year and model makes the best wake fully loaded with additional fat sacks?

I have a limit of 25k so I probably won't be able to buy anything very new but what would be the best boat for the price?

I'm also up for suggestions on other boats like mastercraft and malibu.

polarbill 07-18-2012 12:46 PM

Your only options are the Air Nautique direct drive, Pro Air Nautique direct drive and Super Air Nautiqe(SAN) in that price range. The air and super air basically have the same hull but one is a direct drive and the other is a v drive. Definately look for a SAN(vdrive). If you can find an 02 or 03 those seem to be the best options. If you are looking in the early 2000's make sure the gauges have been converted to analog from the digital. They have problems it sounds like. If it does have digital gauges jsut work the swap over into the price. The SAN is probably the mos tlegendary wake producer ever besides the 2003-2011 Xstar. A really steep and solid wake with less weight then a lot of boats. Also, the PCM GT40 is probably one of, if no the best tournament boat engine ever. I think 2002 was the last year you could get that engine. The 2001's and early have wider gunnels so are alittle smaller inside.

brett33 07-18-2012 12:47 PM

Brett nailed it. I have a 2002 SANTE with analog gauges and the GT-40. It's got 3k of ballast plumbed and a upgraded prop. I've had it since it was brand new and it's the hands down favorite boat in my crew to ride behind still.

Best option.. 99-03 Super Air 210's

xstarrider 07-18-2012 12:58 PM

Don't count out the same years Nautique super sports . They are identical to the Super Air minus the standard wake options such as ballast and tower. However 90% of them these days have a tower and auto ballast that was installed by the owner and is bigger and easier to use than the standard Nautique factory systems of those era's.

One boat I would stay away from if the pro air Nautique. Totally it's own hull and a somewhat sub par wake when compared to the standard air, super sport, or super air. The best yer hands down is a 2003 SANTE the tower interior and ballast was all dialed.

wakedaveup 07-18-2012 1:01 PM

Brett is right, the 02/03 had digital guages and never worked like they should. You could also look into an older super sport which is still a Vdrive and pretty affordable if you find a clean one. Just add a few ballast bags and you're good to go!

xstarrider 07-18-2012 1:01 PM

Also if you are not hard set on a Nautique the 99-2002 Mastercraft XStar/ 205v has one of the best wakes of that era as well. However it will need quite a bit more ballast than the suler air. Not quite as vert but super legendary transition, kick and pop. Two of the most iconic wakes in the industry both no longer produced. :(

tampawake 07-18-2012 1:07 PM

Since you opened up the door for MC. Look at the 205V hull this was the X start until 03 and the X2 till 06 then the X1(think those dates are close). I would say that the original SAN and X Star (205V) are the most storied wake hulls. I own a 2002 X Star and split time between it and the old school SAN. Both wakes are great the SAN is a bit steeper depending how you weight them. I would own both no problem so keep and eye out for both boats. The wakes are GREAT on both great manufacturers. The only negative I will say about my MC was the ballast manifold system. With newer pumps you cant fill all 3 at the same time. I gutted it and made through hulls for each and ever pump to pull water from. Other than that its been a great boat. Good luck

soulrider 07-18-2012 1:08 PM

The 03 is actually what I had in mind. My friend has the 03 and I have been behind it a lot and so far i like the wake the best out of the other boats I have been behind. he bought it new in 03 and has tons of hours on it and it still runs strong and smooth and hasn't had many serious problems which makes me feel good. what is the price range for that year in good condition with somewhat low hours? Where is the best place to search for a boat this time of year? I live in Michigan but wouldn't mind buying from another state if I can find what I'm looking for.

03 was a good year I think. That was when the standard motor was the 330hp excalibur right? Keep in mind that all Super Air Nautique 210's and Super sport Nautiques had the same hull from 1995(or whenver they came out with the super sport) to 2006. Besides the switch to narrower gunnels and losing the full wrap around the only differences were really graphics, towers, gauges, ballast setup and the motor.

Thanks fellas!

Amazing color way on a classic boat. We've got a 02 210 SA with low hours...looking forward to seeing how many years we get out of it.

Which bimini company did you go with...we definitely need to add that.

wakebordr11 07-18-2012 8:05 PM

Jizzed in my pants when I saw those pix

VTWakeboard 07-18-2012 9:08 PM

02-03 is by far my favorite 210, there is an all black on I have seen pictures of that could be one of my favorite boats ever. If been riding a lot behind a blue 02 and its up there for classiest looking boats if seen. Also spent a lot of time riding an 05 which seems to just have less gel coat colors and a ss tower instead of black. Its personal preference like everyone said either way the hull and the wake is the same and its one of the best ever. between the 205v/210 you can not go wrong the wakes fit/finish are classic. Pick the one you like best

I miss my old 2001 SAN:

Seriously? An '04 for $26k? What's wrong with it? I'll give you that for it if you're close to me just so I can resell it and make $10k. I'm picking up a '12 demo in a couple months, and just sold my '05 for $36k.

kskonn 07-19-2012 3:24 PM

My neighbor just sold his 05 for 38k, those 99-03 are still some of my favorite boats, as well as the original X star/205V/X2/X1. something about them, they just have a classic look, never goes out of style.

chrisbucklin 07-19-2012 3:27 PM

Dam. Well I am getin a bigger boat and want to use this one for this season then dump it. Need some money for the down payment to get the new one built!

You could sell it really fast at probably 31 or 32k if it is in good shape.

chrisbucklin 07-19-2012 3:31 PM

It's in pretty good shape. Not perfect but for 26-27, I got 62 hours on this year already. Thing runs great and has been gone over front to back by my dealer.

Swatguy, I love that there is a slalom ski in one of the pictures.

xstarrider 07-20-2012 8:45 PM

gotta keep it real.......I have picked it back up over the past 2 seasons probably close to 50/50 this season. I kind of plateaued boarding as getting worked and hurt is no longer that fun. I did have to drop that old Connelly Carbon Course Pro this season for a new stick as the deep water starts were getting to me after my surgery. Swapped to a HO Triumph and love it. Hoping to hit the course a few times in the next month or so once i kick it back into gear.

I have been looking for a new boat as this one just turned 13 and I need a bit more room. However, for what I do this hull just can't be touched. Board, surf, sk,i and the gel is still an 8-10 after 13 yrs with nothing but boat bling, babes, and wax. Carpet is my only issue.....13yrs of use is starting to show.

With a great driver who loves the way this boat tracks and drives its hard to get her to like anything we have tested.

I think Skipper Buds has had most of the Tiges since the January boat show, and they are looking to unload them. I think Tige is a great boat, my concern would be Skipper Buds keeping the line...

I actually got their most recent news letter ............they are blowing out their 2012 R20's in blue and green for 46,900. on a sticker of 69,500. Their MSRP is over the top compared to the market for Tiges and their Volo shop is in shambles FWIW.

I was eyeing their blue Z1 but their MSRP's are so inflated its ridiculous...even as a midwest dealer where boats go for premiums.

Yep, that is Skipper Buds for you. It seems consistent with most of the towboat dealers in or near Illinois though.

I loved that Z1 at the boat show, I must have spent half an hour on that thing. When I saw the price, especially considering the base level tower and 5 liter engine, I had no trouble walking away. An R20 decently equipped for 47 isn't bad though...

If Skipper Buds drops Tige though, not sure who would do the warranty work. The PCM stuff could go through a CC dealer, but that's just the powertrain.

chrisbucklin 07-21-2012 1:25 AM

well u made it a easy choice,thanks

mark197 07-21-2012 7:28 AM

Yeah Chris the guys over at FF are awesome. They treat you like one of the guys not some customer. I am going to list mine in spring and look at something from them. I can't wait to see what the new Moomba looks like.

One of these days we'll get out and ride.
