Hey guys, im looking into buying a new boat and ive really got into riding. I hit the water about every day. I have a 2007 sea ray with a tower, but its just not working for me. Any suggestions on boats would be very appreciated.

02ssv 09-08-2007 7:43 AM

Like (Kraig) said. Test out as many as you can. I love my Supra SSV, but I wouldn't mind getting a pull behind any of the boats above. Good luck with the purch.

swb140 09-08-2007 8:13 AM

I just rode behind a 08 Super Air 230. We had about 3000lb total in the boat and were in 50 ft of water. Hands down best wake I have ever ridden to bad it has a $95000 price tag. That's out of my price range.

I have owned to Nautiques. A 1997 sport and a 2000 Super Air. Both were Great boats. My friend still has my 1997 and has had no trouble with it. To get the wake the way I like it it took some work, but it is still a great boat. The 2000 Super Air is awsome. I got it 7 years ago and it has not given me any trouble. I say if you can swing the cost you will not be disapointed with a Nautique.

robertr720 09-08-2007 9:03 AM

Hey sheldon I just bought a 97 sport Nautique and am lovin it. Just curious, how did you weigh it down. I think I got it dialed in but I am always curious to hear someone elses method.

Agreed with the whole demo as many boats as you can. Everyone likes something different so you just have to try stuff out for yourself. All the big name boat companies make comfortable boats that look great so you just need to find the wake that suits you. I am a nautique man myself because I like the steepness of thier wakes. But I know people who hate steep wakes too. So to each his own. Good luck.

swb140 09-08-2007 9:17 AM

Robert the 97 Sport wake will get steep real fast if you over weight the back. I think the best thing is to weight it real even. If you put a lot in the back you will have to put alot in the front and middle.
I took the rear seat out and had a custom made sack in the back. I'm not sure how much but I would guess it at about 1000lb. My friend that owns it now uses a Fly High Fat Sofa. I bought a single water bed matress put it in the ski locker and filled it up as much as I could. I had 3 - 70lb sand bags under the seats in the open bow as far up in the front as they would go. If you think that it is to steep or if it starts to curl over either add more front weight of take some out of the back. 70 to 75 ft of rope is were I rode. I thought back beyond 75 ft it was not as good. But I'm not a super good wakeboarder. I like to go w2w not out in the flats.

swb140 09-08-2007 9:23 AM

Hey Robert I was wrong on the Fat Sofa. That is made by straightline not fly high. My bad.

26lacefield 09-08-2007 9:25 AM

test drive the boats but when your buying just remember the boat you buy is only as good as the dealer that you buy from. try to talk to other people that have bought from that dealer and find out how their service is. you could spend 100 grand on a boat and if that bastard breaks and the dealer take forever to fix it, really how good is that boat to you. i'd personally rather buy from a great dealer as long as they have a decent product, than buy from a dealer that doesn't know what they're doin and has the best boats.

26lacefield 09-08-2007 9:32 AM

Raymond. i just saw that you live in Houston. if your interested in Tige's go see the guys at Texas Tige. i believe they're in Houston or right outside of houston. they're great guys over there adn i know they would be more than happy to take you for a test drive/ride.

robertr720 09-08-2007 9:45 AM

Thank you for the suggestions Sheldon. Right now I have 400lbs of pop bags under the rear seat and then we put a 250 right behind the motor box, 350 on each side of it and a 350 in the ski locker, Then we place another 250 in the bow. If it is just me and 1 other we will place an additional 500 on the back seat but I really dont like to put bags on the interior so I think I'm gonna get more pop bags. Do you think I should try more up front? Will that make the wake less steep but taller aswell or just take the lip off.

swb140 09-08-2007 9:58 AM

More weight up front won't make the wake taller but it will make it less steep. I think more front weight make the wake firmer also. But all and all it sounds like you have it dialed in.

there are sooo many sick boats out ther, my personal fav is the Natique 210 (before they changed it)....that being said I have a Moomba and love it

shon_g 09-08-2007 10:57 AM

Moomba Mobius XLV..

johnben 09-08-2007 11:01 AM

They are all good boats whatever boat you choose you will be pleased with. But I have gone through the same thoughts on which boat I am going to buy and am debating between a nauty or malibu but lean more towards the malibu because of how much more room you get on the inside

hawk7 09-08-2007 8:22 PM

oh god not this again.... hands down if you've got the money, It's the X-Star, BUT!!! you pay 90g's and you can't get it in green?????

dlwsrider 09-08-2007 8:42 PM

Supra 24 SSV. bottom line

ive rode behind every major boat maker (excluding centurion) and that is the best wake i have ever seen in my life

want2ridealot 09-08-2007 9:23 PM

Malibu VLX, LSV,247, V ride All great ( V ride put close to 1800 lbs in it)
Really like the Tige 24ve
Supra 24 SSV -huge wake
Mastercraft X-star(sink it down)
Haven't ridden behind many nautiques

drewsnautique94 09-09-2007 4:22 AM

a NAUTIQUE

paulw 09-09-2007 6:26 AM

I had a 01 X30, and then got the 06 XStar this year. I like the boat a lot. The wake is a little wide for us older guys that suck, so you have to charge it a little more. Nice long smooth ramp for us who can't handle the aggressive pop of a more vertical wake. Over all very satisfied with the boat, except that you have to keep the nose up in large rollers or water is coming over the bow.

Raymond
I dont know about down your way
but up here
you can't go wrong buying from Tim,Frank,Tony and the crew at Waterski America (Malibu)
they sell more 'Bu's (top 1, 2 or 3 anyway) than any other single dealership in the country

and Tony....runs a top notch service department....being part owner himself

just ask anybody from this area.....they can't be beat

with that said....

I ride behind an X-Star and/or an X2 4 or 5 times a month......from the school out of Texas Mastercraft

in fact....I am riding on the Mastercraft private lake here in about 2 hours :-)

my kids go to school with the kids of the guys who are involved in running the dealership

.....again, great group of honest people

I don't have as much experience with these guys on a boat level.......but I understand they are excellent with the service

I do agree with everyone here......you are buying a huge investment in the dealership when you buy a boat

take the 4 hour drive....and buy from one of these guys

you won't be disappointed

HEY SITE ADMINISTRATOR - BAN THIS QUESTION. ALONG WITH "WHICH BOAT HAS THE BEST WAKE?"

dnp33 09-09-2007 10:57 AM

wow this isnt doing as bad as i thought it would!! that being said, from what i can tell, any of the major boat brands (supra, malibu, epic, mastercraft, correct craft(nautique),tige, centurion, moomba) all make great wakes. its been said that moomba's are really good value, and stepping up from a searay, theres probably no way you could tell much of a difference between any of these boats wakes. (sry if thats not true). it basically comes down to money, and if thats not a problem, whichever boat you liked the best after either test driving or just being in it.

aces6692 09-09-2007 11:32 AM

IMO x star has best shape wake its nice and rampy but kicks u at the top, then x2 its just like the x star just smaller, x30 has a good wake with some weight, and x45 is a good wake but its not my fav, it also has a good wakesurf wake

sanger v215 has a nice shape also

hawk7 09-09-2007 5:59 PM

Heres a real answer for you, three brands not to stray away from;

MasterCraft
Malibu
Correct Craft

Mainly

MasterCraft X-Star/X-2
Malibu VLX/V-Ride
Correct Craft 210
