Any experienced wake filmers on here that could give me a brief breakdown on equipment. What camcorder? What software program for editing?

Just give me the bottom line: whats the best? I want to film stuff in a similar quality to the videos posted on wakeplace.com: slow mo shots, HD quality, etc.?

You should look into a RED 617 Pro. With a few accessories that should be all you need to produce web-quality videos. I think it'll do HD, too.

the new red scarlet is so freakin rad... pricey but definitely worth it if you have the money and are willing to spend. The quality is unmatched check it out www.red.com

The Red is an incredible camera- but not in the budget for most videographers- especially those "interested in getting in to it". I shoot with a Panasonic HPX170 and up until about a month ago shot an HVX200. BOth of which are incredible cameras and are fastly becoming industry standard for action sports vids. The SOny EX1 is a super sick cam, as well- pretty sure that's what Wakeplace uses. In my opinion the EX1 will give you a sharper image, but you cant beat the coloring of Panasonic cams- and thats why most still prefer it.

Head over to DVXUSER.COM and there you will find more information than you'll ever need on all of the above cams and you can decide for yourself which format is best for you.

good luck!

FInal Cut pro is what you will want to edit with. You could use express if you don't plan on profiting from your videos from what i understand.

I wouldn't recommend RED for a first time user. A used HVX200 and FC express is all you need.

Red & FCP/Color did just hope in the same bed together so i am interested how that all works out. 24 page workflow woo who!
