Our Sanger came with an "Air Time" extended pylon, and a Skylon four board rack.
I am going to have to cut a slice in the Bimini Top for the Pylon to go through and will probably have to do the same in the front of the top for the Pylon bow strap. I figure on putting zippers in the canvas to facilitate the openings.

The rack is where I am going to have a problem. I think (am sure) that there is going to be an interference problem between the boards in the rack and the tow rope if I put the rack above the Bimini, and it will be useless and right in the way if I put it below. Cutting a 10x10 hole in the top would allow me to bring it down some, but I still wonder about clearance. The Skylon holds the boards on a 45, and I have considered buying a rack that holds them level.

How much vertical clearance from the boards/rack to the pick up point of the rope do I need to avoid a problem with the rope when somebody is riding?

This would all be a moot point if I could make the Monster Tower happen this year, but I don't think that is going to happen until summer '06.

Any thoughts?

Two thoughts. First, you can use a shock tube (for slalom skiing) to prevent the tow rope from tangling with the rack. Second, I have a Fly High pylon board rack that holds the 4 boards level. I would be willing to part with it for a nominal amount.
Thanks for the reply, Matt. Let me ponder that idea....I'll go look at one on their site.

What is a nominal amount?

Remember that when you are towing a rider, the boat is far from level. You might be surprised how much clearance you have. The thing you have to be careful of is when you idle around to pick up your rider after a fall.

Andy, I hadn't thought of that, either. We are new to the inboard world, and I am trying to do as much of the learning as possible now, before we hit the lake this spring. At this point, all info is good info...

Matt that looks like what I need.

(Message edited by sam8 on January 14, 2005)

What I did was got a piece of aluminum rod at home depot and two stainless steel pipe clamps along with a little brass pipe. I bent the aluminim rod at 90 degrees, and mounted the little pipe at the top of the pylon using the two stainless steel pipe clamps.

then I zip tied a plastic tube to the other end of the aluminum rod so I could slip the rope through as an eyelet. This keeps the rope off the boards and from tangling. You should not need to cut a hole in the front of your bimini for the cable, only where the pylon goes through. Not worth putting a zipper on it.

John,

Thanks... That might be the answer...

I never had a tangle after that and the whole thing was about 15 bucks to build.
