Thinking back on 2008, I am totally impressed with the people we ride with and the tricks they learned in 2008. Justin, Chad and Blake Payton - Alyssa, Jer & Josh Twelker - Jim Aikens - plus my girls & hubby - everyone added a bunch of tricks to their list.

So what did you learn last year, and have you made a list for what you want to learn next year?

jaybee 12-30-2008 10:29 AM

Had to start all over again after having back surgery last summer but I got my heel side 180's down again, as well as toeside w2w.

shon_g 12-30-2008 11:02 AM

Got my Tail Grab H/S B/S 180's on lock...Melon H/S 5, Melon T/S 5, and T/S 3. Was a awesome season of riding with a lot of progression from all the peeps I ride with!!

spencerbelieu 12-30-2008 11:41 AM

Got my whirly consistent. Toeside 5. And heelside stalefish back 180. Also came close on toeside 7 and crow mobe those two are my main goals for next year.

tahoeguy7 12-30-2008 12:32 PM

I learned that a hairline fracture in your foot can ruin your life for 6 to 12 months.

zachcopp 12-30-2008 12:53 PM

I learned my heel 3, then blew out my ankle and have been out for 4 months...

lfadam 12-30-2008 2:07 PM

relearned frontrolls and hs 5s, learned scarecrows, elephants, sw. ts bs 180s, ole bs 3s, sw. ts. 5s, and mute ts 3s. Next year I wanna get my r2rs down for real (I landed 1, thats it), halfcab roll, hs and/or ts 7, some O/A spins, crow mobe, and raleys.

wakeslife 12-30-2008 2:57 PM

this year learned half cab fs 180's, ts frontrolls, scarecrows, and R2R. Next hope to get heel and toe fs 3's, tantrums, and maybe a bs 180

hayes 12-30-2008 3:02 PM

This year: Toe side front roll and still sketchy on the HS FS 360.

Next year: TS 540, r2r, and raley.

splatman 12-30-2008 3:30 PM

I learned HS FS 180's, TS FS 180's, Halfcab TS FS 180s, and I landed a couple indy 1's. Not bad for having knee surgery in january!

Next year I wanna learn BS 180's, more grab 1's, 360's, and maybe a tantrum.

the_bum 12-30-2008 6:50 PM

This year I learned,
Toe backside 180's and Toe back 3's, Switch toe 5's, Switch crows, Heel back 5. and a bunch of new grabs on my tricks.
Finaly started trying my tantrum to blinds again this past week after having it consistant last year then not doing any at all this year. Hopefully I can bring it down tommorow to say I landed one in 08. If not it will be stuck in 09.

For 09 my goals are Heel back 7, Heel fs 7, Switch heel 7, get the tantrum to blind grabbed and consistant again, crow mobe, skeezer, moby, pete and a batwing to blind.
Last TSR trip I tried some tantrum fs 3's off the kicker and was getting really close and haven't had that perfect day yet to try it behind the boat, but hope to bring that down in 09 as well.
Man I have my work cut out for me!

unclejessie 12-30-2008 8:07 PM

I learned in 08 that I hardly have any video or pics of a great year of riding from my crew...

So in '09, the video will be roll'n and the cameras will be snapp'n pics of my crew!

-Uj

This year: HS W2W, surface 360, ollie 180, TS FS 180

Next year: TS W2W, other 180s, grabs, maybe a backroll or 360

12-30-2008 10:16 PM

(Actually I'm 60). I was hoping to go w2w this year but I didn't quite make it. I did learn the surface 180 and 360, as well as hs & ts, switch & regular 180's off the wake.

Next year I hope to at least do hs w2w & hs w2w 180.

dakid 12-30-2008 10:26 PM

rmcronin 12-31-2008 5:58 AM

I learned your eye socket can bleed on a ts 5 to faceplant. '09 = cheaper gas = more riding = better riding

ironj32 12-31-2008 6:05 AM

^^^^^I learned that too! who woulda thunk it??? although mine was a ts 3 to faceplant.^^^^^

i also learned you can get a bloody nose and two black eyes by catching your toe edge on a ts backroll.

wakechic82 12-31-2008 8:41 AM

In '08 I learned that falling forward with one foot out of the binding will leave a scar on your forehead from the wakeboard.

In '09 I just want to get the tantrum so I have one cool trick in my book before I start popping out babies!

andy_nintzel 12-31-2008 10:14 AM

I had a great season. Lots of Progession considering how busy my summer was.

I got:
Mute Crows (just a new grab)
Mute R to R (just a new Grab)
TS BS Nose 3's
Switch TS BS 3's
Back Fives (gottem back)
Switch Pete
Switch Toe Seven
Did one Nose Grab Roll to Blind
Did one TS BS 5 off the dub

Other than that I just really worked on new variations of old Fav's like Stale front 3's and 5's, in the past I have always done front hand grabs on these spins. Back hand is FUN! Shifty BS 180s. Spent a ton of time trying to get new switch tricks to so I can do mirror images of tricks. Like Nose toe 5's to switch Nose toe 5's, Nose R to R, to Switch Nose R to R. Stuff like that.

Next summer I am going to hunt down the switch toe 9, I would really like to learn the TS roll to Blind too..

dyost 12-31-2008 1:20 PM

Picked up TS 5 (on and off axis). Regular Frontroll. Switch Roll to Revert.

Next season going for:
HS FS 5 (inches away before it got too cold)
Solid grabs and pokes on HS and TS 3's
BS 180

dukeno1 12-31-2008 1:23 PM

gene3x 12-31-2008 3:53 PM

I leanred that a torn ACL is the worst injury ever!

gene3x 12-31-2008 3:58 PM

I need to learn how to spell too!

Also, I learned that I am old but can ride in the old man's division now so might just give it a shot!

longhornfan 01-01-2009 12:29 PM

I learned stepping up from a Bayliner Capri to a VLX=much bigger wake=much more air=2 foot injuries. Still hurting a bit on the right foot.

2009 I'm gonna' learn to tape my feet when I ride and hopefully my first invert.

waterdork88 01-01-2009 12:59 PM

i learned all the fs 180s, and going w2w switch etc and a hs 3. next year i want a ts 5

shredsickgnar 01-01-2009 1:54 PM

I learned Crow Mobes, Switch toe 5s and switch back 3s.

7s are still on the list along with back 5s. I'd like to try some switch hs 5s too. In 09 I'd really like to ride more rails and features other than the wake.

wiz 01-01-2009 3:53 PM

i learned that a bruised heel is no fun. & finally stuck a ts invert. plus i'm hoping these gas prices hang around so we can enjoy some economical wakeboarding!

gene3x 01-01-2009 4:12 PM

They won't....

Where & when is the wake games this year?

dhands88 01-01-2009 4:22 PM

i learned to buy a big 400 gallon gas tank bury it at my house and buy my gas now while its cheap so when they jacked gas prices up for summer i will save alot of money. and just pumped out of my tank at home

andy_nintzel 01-02-2009 7:07 AM

I also learned that its hard to start a boat bun thread that will last unless your Kyle Chattin.

I learned soooo many tricks in 2008 that I cant remember them all. Lets just put it this way, I started out 2008 with no inverts and by my 2nd contest of the year i bumped all the way up to expert and got 2nd place.

There are alot of tricks that ive been really close to, but i didnt quite get to land them:

Heel 720,
toeside 720,
crow mobe,
backside 540,
switch and regular frontflip to fakies,
tailgrab poke BS 180 (the way benny g does it),
I even spun a toeside 900 one time while trying 720s so maybe that will be a possibility,
backroll to blind

there is also alot of new tricks I want to try:

Pete Rose,
Back Mobe,
toeside backside 540 off the double up,
whirlybird,
indy tantrum to blind,
KGB,
and i really think i could push myself to learn a backside 720

solo 01-05-2009 6:17 PM

I learned that it's hard to read the Boat Bun thread when your girls around....

splatman 01-05-2009 6:22 PM

hahahahahaha ya gotta be sneaky bro

zach2orjack 01-06-2009 8:22 AM

It was my first season, I started late in the season but I learned a lot in a short time. I learned that I wasn't in shape. I learned a lot about faceplants. I learned that I did the most faceplants out of all the people that rode with us. I also learned W2W and a lot of surface tricks. The best thing I learned was that I really enjoy this sport.

I plan on landing at least one invert by mid season this year. I wish I had started riding years ago, I wouldn't be 32 trying to keep up with 20 year olds.

gene3x 01-06-2009 12:03 PM

lol Get used to it. If you are competitive you will be pushing to kick the young punks ass. I started at 35 and have had many injuries trying to keep up. Do yourself a favor and get in the gym to protect your joints and your body in general.

the_bum 01-06-2009 6:18 PM

Gene is the only one with enough balls around here to be trying late roll to blinds.
