whats your setup? any problems with perfect pass and too much weight?

wazzy 05-23-2005 8:49 PM

I use 2 600# bags: one on each side of the motor cover in our '88 Supra.....

I think Troy used a fat seat in the Centurion...

walt 05-23-2005 8:53 PM

I set up my boat the same way plus #100 of lead under the bow.

mjmurphy53711 05-23-2005 9:14 PM

yea forest im planning out an automatic ballast....i think the fat seat is too much in the rear, and its trashed looking. u never gave me your opinion of the boat....

custom ballast tanks. 1000 lbs in the rear. 200 in the front and 500 lbs of iron mostly in front.

norcalmalibu 05-23-2005 11:24 PM

In mine I use a 600 pound fat sac in the bow, with a 900-1000 pound fat sofa in the back. This is on a malibu skier.

Used to weigh our old boat ('96 Prostar 190) with a full sac each side of engine, two fat buddies in front of those and a side sack across the back seat.

Was fairly balanced and drove pretty nice still. Not very much floor space left though.

hypo303 05-24-2005 6:52 PM

150pds concrete in the bow
and 1250-1500pds in the fat seat in back
malibu skier
60ft 20mph

mjmurphy53711 05-24-2005 7:09 PM

nobody thinks the fat seat is too much in the back? what happened to the 60/40 rule?

scottyb 05-24-2005 7:41 PM

Mike you need 50/50 side to side and 60/40 rear to front. So if you have that fat seat full you will want about 850 lbs in the front.

mjmurphy53711 05-24-2005 9:10 PM

fat seat is being scrapped......i like my boats backseat. We are designing automatic ballast upfront under the closed bow (either 1 600 pound fat sac laid cross the width of the boat or two side sacs laid on left and right nose of the closed bow) and either just 2 sides sacs on either side of the direct drive, or two full sacs on either side of the direct drive. all automatic courtesy gordons know how and theoretically all made invisible when not in use......i was just looking to see what layouts are working for people.

That sounds awesome.

'83 SN 2001
300-600 bow
600-1200 stern

Depending on the number of people and who they are sometimes I also add 300 lbs of lead in the walkway. I normally run 2-4 people (one of them weighs 300 lbs). When he drives I figure about how much the third weighs and add the appropriate amount to that side.

So here is my normal weighting:

400 bow
800 stern
150-300 on the sides

The fat seat when it is full is too much, IMHO.

fuel 05-25-2005 8:39 PM

Oh, BTW, all I use the lead for is counter ballast to keep the wake from being too mushy on one side. When I have 4-6 people, I usually don't bring the lead and instead make people move around.

ramhouse 05-26-2005 3:26 PM

'93 Mastercraft Prostar...700lbs. lead spread around the boat, bow, sides and behind the seat and you can't even see it. You can even surf...
when kids want more, a sac on each side of the motor, and one in the back...

mjmurphy53711 05-26-2005 4:01 PM

it seems the consensus is to get the weight in the rear......we ran a sac up front and two sacs on the sides yesterday, two rampy but big. Im thinking the side sacs on the side for adjustable balance and surf potential, and a sac in the back....i still like my backseat lol.

wakeking933 05-31-2005 3:47 PM

i want to put 700# in my boat but when i stop water comes over the back will it not be effected or will it be worse

ttrigo 05-31-2005 4:27 PM

I have about 250# of lead that fits under the back seat. I also use about 300# in sand on the sides, and 150# in sand in the bow. I tried the fat seat, but it was just too much for me. took on water over the back a couple of times from other boats rollers when we were sitting waiting on a rider. I am hoping to try out some side sacs, but we will see. I generally have 4-6 people in the boat, so that helps. if it is only 3 of us going out, I use a 500# fat sac for the back, since we wont be needing the back seat.

Fat sofa in the rear, 200Lbs up front plus normally 4 people at the front (driver plus 3)

Mastercraft 190
70ft at 21mph
