05-17-2006 5:56 PM

Holy cow! I can't even describe how painful that sounds. How exactly did it happen?

nuckledragger 05-17-2006 6:06 PM

Sorry Tom, my friend did the same thing and it is a long road back. Definitely break out the wake surfboard.

wake_boarder49 05-17-2006 6:14 PM

Hey Tom, here's to a speedy recovery. I also want to hear as I am just learning to wake surf and I'm older than you and already beat up. How'd it happen?

ord27 05-17-2006 7:36 PM

ouch
I tore mine at the end of last summer
but the boat away for the winter the next day
I tore a chunk out of it and "dinged" my rotator cuff
I was lucky
surgeon said surgery would only be for cosmetic
and scar tissue would heal the muscle
functionally, I'm good as new
hope things go well for you

ghostrider_2 05-17-2006 7:42 PM

jarrod 05-17-2006 7:48 PM

that sucks Tom. Sorry buddy.

fyrdawg29 05-17-2006 7:52 PM

OUCH... guess its a bad day at the doc's. I just got results back from an MRI. I have partial PCL tear. Doc says no boarding, but who should i listen too??? The doc or my boat telling me to go play... Decisions, decisions....

tantrum916 05-17-2006 8:54 PM

How did I do it? It tore when I was being pulled up. About 1/2 way out of the water my musle tighned up and and felt like buble wrap popping followed by a loud pop sound and a lot of pain.

I won't be on line for a couple of day since surgery is Tommorow so just wanted to thank everybody for the kind words and support.

Tom

PS. I'm a little loopy right now so my spelling is way off.

sanger215guy 05-17-2006 9:05 PM

TOm sorry bud, And I was thinking about using my Surfer next weekend. I might just stay BoatBiach until the doc releases me. Hope your going to make it to Memorial weekend.

tupper78 05-17-2006 9:19 PM

Make sure you get a second opinion before you go under the knife, Last season I tore my bicep and the doc said I needed surgery and That I might need to get it amputated, But I went to another doc and found out that it would heal on its own it took a while but now I feel pretty good and I dodn't even have to have surgery. if you can see any movement in your bicep while you flex your arm you might not need surgery.

attila916 05-17-2006 9:24 PM

Dude I just sent you an e-mail to see how you were doing and then I checked WW! I am sooo sorry to heat that Tom! You looked like you were in a whole bunch of pain yesterday. I felt kind of helpless...

Get well soon and let me know if there is anything I can do for you!

eternalshadow 05-17-2006 10:08 PM

Dude wth! We were just riding like a month ago. Best of luck my friend, take care, and may rehab go well.

I've got my MRI scheduled for September, but it's nothing half as bad as yours.

tomcalabria 05-18-2006 12:48 AM

Hey Tom!

I am so bummed! I was so looking forward to riding with you in the next few weeks. Make sure that you get well soon and I hope that the operation goes well.

guido 05-18-2006 10:38 AM

Wow, Tom that's a major bummer. Sorry to hear it man. Good luck with the surgery. Best wishes.

I thought for sure that you fell with a rope around it. I've never heard of it happening when getting up. I did the fall-with-your-arm-through-the-handle thing two years ago. Some of the worst pain I've ever felt. I had a partial tear and still have a dent in my bicep. I guess I just got lucky.

Take care, bro

h20diva 05-18-2006 2:12 PM

Best Wishes to you and hopes for a speedy recovery. Hope to see you Memorial Day Weekend!!!

tonis 05-18-2006 3:15 PM

I hope it wasn't your dominate hand so you can still functiuon. Get well soon Tom!

tantrum916 05-20-2006 11:06 AM

I had my surgery on Thursday night, all went well with the procedure. The good news is I had a complete tare of the tendon from the bone and no damage to any muscle tissue. The doc had no problems pulling the muscle and tendon back down into place and re-attaching it to the bone. Since there is no muscle tissue or tendon to heal I will be in rehab in 10 to 14 days rather than 3 months as earlier predicted. I'm still going to be out until late August early September.

big_ed_x2 05-20-2006 1:12 PM

That sucks, sorry to hear that Tom.Hoping for your speedy recovery.

tomcalabria 05-20-2006 1:33 PM

Sorry to hear that Tom but you can still drive the boat and enjoy the sun. I hope that you will still get out there with me. I need your great boat driving tips. Get well soon

attila916 05-20-2006 10:59 PM

Gret news Tom! Tom March and I both need you behind the wheel, we are both pro's at taking 50 gallon rollers over the nose!

attila916 05-20-2006 11:00 PM

BTW, do you think it was a pre-existing injury or do you think it happened while getting up on the shread-stick?

tantrum916 05-21-2006 2:53 PM

I think it had a lot to do with the rope we were useing. I think that grip with out a handle changes your arm posision cause you to do a big curle putting all the force on you bicep.

tomcalabria 05-21-2006 10:32 PM

Were you wakesurfing?
