Any Other Corvette Fans/Owners

I was over on Corvetteforum.com and realized I have got to be one of the youngest people on that forum!..and probably one of the oldest on this forum. lol

Anyway, any other wakeworld 'vette guys? Post 'em up!

03-23-2012 10:48 AM

I don't have the chest hair to pull that off.

My midlife crisis car of choice would be a 993.

dizzyj 03-23-2012 8:19 PM

I love vettes. They are a blast to blow past on the track.

magicr 03-23-2012 9:01 PM

Have always loved Corvettes, never owned one. I had a chance to buy a 1961 for $4500.00 (back in 1979) but I couldn't afford the insurance, it was original red and white with I think a 283. I now own a 73 Challenger Rallye totally stock and original. Give me American muscle any day.

stepintoliquid 03-24-2012 1:24 PM

Not gettin' any love on this post Neil!

TroyD 03-24-2012 1:39 PM

Had a Z06 for awhile and test drove a ZR1 but unfortunately my 2-seater comes from Southern Europe.

ripr 03-24-2012 3:24 PM

Haha...I knew it was a long shot after seeing all the bimmer posts on here in the past!

Going fast is fun, but there's always someone faster. At least that's what us gold chain wearin, chest hair flaunting, Viagra taking, slow American sports car driving guys tell each other after we get smoked by a Neon SRT4! Lol

I'd be interested to know what you drive. A stock ZO6 on Hoosiers in the hands of any decent driver is almost untouchable by any stock street car and most modified race cars depending on the class.

TroyD 03-24-2012 7:00 PM

When I went from the Z06 to F430 it was night and day!

I have a 73 in my garage. It is my cousin's. He needed a place to store it when he moved to South America. He gave me the keys and said drive it whenever you want. It is a great looking car and I was really excited about having the keys until I drove it. In 2 years I have only driven it more than 10 miles from home once.

The '73 is starting to become more desireable as a collectible. While the 68-72's had the chrome bumpers and are CRAZY expensive, the 73's had the chrome rear, and the plastic front. Right now, they're extremely affordable, and I may look to pick one up in the next year or two as a project car.

Porsche's, Ferarri's, Lambo's....all just a dream for working stiff like me. But, even if I could afford one of those, I'd still have a vette (or a few), too. For some of us, it's more about celebrating American sports car heritage as opposed to having the fastest, rarest or baddest car in the parking lot. That being said, there's is still some screaming fast vette's out there!

Really looking forward to the C7!

jonblarc7 03-26-2012 11:02 AM

My dream car

My next car will be a Z06 and I'll take the cost of the Z06 add a few goody's and have something that will smoke your 100,000 plus European cars and still be able to buy a new Malibu.

Redneck out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TroyD 03-26-2012 2:13 PM

A ZR1 will beat my F430 in a straight line but a Z06 won't. Unfortunately that's all a vette will do better. That being said vette is the MB of the sports car world, very good value considering you can buy 2 ZR1's for the price of a 430.

I recant the numbers on the Z06 look better than the 430 on the straight line quarter mile.

I love the new Vette's. Can't beat the bang for your buck. My Pops has an 08 base model. I figured this thread needed at least one pic. Here is one of a new ZR1 that was for sale on CL a few months ago. I think it was around $100k. So purdy...

Texas Direct Auto usually has a couple of ZR1's. Today only one. but it's a pretty good price.

That last one is awesome.

Why would you pay $100k for a vette?

Jeremy agrees with you! "You'd have to be bonkers to buy the corvette...and that is why you should."

wakecumberland 03-27-2012 8:15 AM

Would I rather have a 911 Turbo? Absolutely. Do I understand why some buy the ZR1? Absolutely.

P.S. Whatever TOPGEAR says is gospel. Do not deny Jeremy, James and Richard.

Because you have to pay twice that for most of the other cars that put up similar performance numbers.

If you're going to buy straight bang for your buck though, passing up a GTR for a vette would be reaaallly hard to do.

I don't care if you prefer Euro sports cars or not.... As a red blooded male that loves cars you lose your man card for not at least respecting the Corvette.

I'll admit... I'm starting to get old and this'll show it.... Hahaha: I had a 1996 Corvette Grand Sport. It had the Blue color deleted on the build and was white (probably sinful to a purist) It was the one and only american car that I've owned, and it's probably on the list of 2-3 that I really wish I still had. I got it 3 years old with 20k on the clock and it was just right at the time. LT4 roller rocker motor. 6 Speed. I did a few things to it. Put the wide wheels all the way around and ran 315's front and rear. Installed Bilstein sports and lowering kit. Re-built the exhaust and intake. Did some tuning. Added a oil and power steering cooler. Swapped to Hawk brake pads. Decided it need a little makeover: had the roof hoop and windows blacked out to match the wheels. then drove the hell out of it. It was wicked, and not much got past it on the track. There was almost nothing that could match the horsepower to weight ratio. Mix that with the nasty wide contact patch and fully adjustable 4 wheel suspension and it was a nasty combo. It was also one of the scariest cars I had ever driven on the track. I finally got arrested in it and decided that I'd trade it in on something more practical. To this day, I miss that car. It was the only C4 that I've ever liked.

Here's the thing.... It's not the car that sucks. It's usually the asshat driving them that makes them lame on the track. Look around a bit. They've got quite a racing heritage.

I'd take another in a second. A Z06 would work just fine. The ZR1 is just rediculous. Yeah, the GTR is faster, but it just looks like a over grown 350Z (IMO).

guido 03-27-2012 4:31 PM

Oh, and for what it's worth... That quarter mile time tells all. The ZR1 is brutal. For a two wheel drive car to be even close to the GTR is rediculous. That car is severely traction limited. It can't stretch it's legs till you get into triple digits.

ripr 03-27-2012 5:47 PM

Matt- Is that a '66? My uncle has a pretty original '66 with side pipes and rag top. It's sick. Good luck getting' your hands on that!

Evan- That C4 sounds bad ass....and you're right, some of the purists would smirk at the white GS, but I've seen a few and they're cool. White is a great color for the C4. And you're right, you have to at least respect a car like the Corvette. I mean, it's hard to believe it's stayed pretty true to its roots for 60 years!

The GTR is a rad car no doubt. I was next to one the other day and was definitely admiring the styling and sound of the car. I wished I was in my C5 ('04, 6sp) just to get him to really get into it. I actually just saw a two GTR's line up on that show Pass Time and I think one ran 11.40? with a tune and mid pipe. The stock one was just over 11.70. They just hooked up and went!

I agree, I was just commenting that if someone is buying a vette because price=performance is better than Ferrari, they would most likely not end up with a vette.

I love love love the C4 and hopefully can convince the mrs. to let me get one as a summer fun car... we'll see.
... with that said, I have to give my vote for "best newer american muscle" to the Viper.... I have always just absolutely loved Vipers.

guido 03-28-2012 8:06 AM

The new Viper is pretty badass. I have a neighbor up the street that has the ACR. It's wicked. He drives his daughter to school in it. Pretty funny seeing someone cruising around in what's basically a race car doing errands.

FWIW.... The car I really want right now is a Boss 302. The new one is awesome. It's putting up some pretty serious performance numbers.

Matt, that car is amazing. Such a classic.

I've gotta say that I think the americans are really headed in the right direction right now. It's been a really long time (maybe never) that I remember being as excited as I am about what the american manufactures are bringing to market. I think the Germans (with a few exceptions) are missing the mark right now, and I love german cars. The japanese are still just japanese. Going about making really good cars with very little excitement (at least from me).

Sweet! So I can count you in as part of my Corvette club when I buy my mid-life crisis ZO6?

polarbill 03-28-2012 3:48 PM

Matt that is a sweet vette. I think my favorite Vette of all time(looks wise anyways since I have never owned or even driven one) would be a '67 427 tripower convertible. Black with red accents.

My daily driver is a e90 M3, and my track car is a 944 turbo, heavily modified. I agree, Z06's are a beast and well respected, although I can keep up with them on my home track. Its the base model vettes that tend to be fairly unruly, or at least have unruly drivers.

When I blow the motor in my 944, im sticking an z06 engine in there.

TroyD 03-29-2012 7:13 AM

The F430 turns more heads.

bakermatt 03-29-2012 7:21 AM

Surely the vette is a great car, it doesn't work in Europe because it appears to vulgar, but Jeremy loved it as a car.

Not sure what "eat crow means" but you can buy a used F430 for 130K. About what I'm going to have to pay for my new Star or Nautique, and not much more than lots of people pay for their boats.

DC. Cool car your dad has. What else does he have in his garage. Is that a gullwing?

durty_curt 03-29-2012 5:21 PM

Very good eye! Yes that is a 1955 Gullwing and on top is a 1932 ford Vicky roadster

ripr 03-29-2012 5:37 PM

Original Gullwing AND a '57 Vette? DAMN!

durty_curt 03-29-2012 9:48 PM

He used to have more, in the early 2000s his dream was to have every corvette "C" platform? Model? (brain fart) produced. He also had a 2003 corvette convertible (I gave em crap cuz it was automatic). A 90s callaway corvette (thing always over heated but hauled ass). And a 1977. The 57 is all he has left, sold the rest
