What speed do you surf at?

Family is kind of new to surfing and I was wondering what speed you all surf at. We have a 2011 SANTE 210 with stock ballast. The kids have been running at 10mph. I gave it a go for the very first time yesterday and had no problem getting up and as long as I was hanging onto the rope, no issues. But it seemed to me that I was more plowing through the water than riding on top of the water. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It would be fun to have something to do when the water gets all chopped up.

I usually run 11mph to 11.5mph. If you're on the river, you need to account for current as well.

Depends on boat, weight and waterbody. There is no magic number. People run from as little as 9 to as high as nearly 12 (with wake boats). One of the typical misconceptions is people try to gauge their wake by looks. A great looking wake, might not ride worth a damn. If I was to speculate speed isn't your issue, you need add more weight and basically gouge/displace a larger wedge of water out.

We usually surf at 11.6 mph. We have about 2000 lbs. of ballast on board though. Usually people start out at 10 to 10.5 mph with between 900 to 1200 lbs. of ballast. If you add weight to the surf side rear you make your wave taller. If you add weight to the front you add length to your wave.

I'll add to what Chaos stated and say it also depends on the board. I'm not a fan of "family" boards. If you all want to have the best time possible surfing, the right size/type of board needs to be fit to each rider. I haven't seen a board work well for 200lb Dad, 120-ish lb Mom and under 100lb kids. It might work well for 2/3, but somebody will be struggling.

10.4-10.5 on my X30, with a TON of push

My guess - stock ballast not enough to get the push you need.

11-11.1 on my 2010 210. I run all factory full, wakesurf sac on the seats and 200-400 up front
