Just finished building my new house and one of my requirements to the wife was a detached garage for my toys and beer fridge.

It is 36' x 36' with 11' height doors. I am going to start insulating and hanging OSB for the walls this weekend. The only negative is it is not on the water.

http://www.aarondenny.net/house/shop1.jpg

http://www.aarondenny.net/house/shop2.jpg

PIMPIN: "NICE MAN CAVE" LOL. It look's like you have a bunch of land in the background. How come you didn't make it a drive threw. Ya know a garage on the back side so you don't have to back in? Anyways Looks great. I wish I had a garage where I dint have to take my tower down each and every time.
Very nice Aaron! Looks great.

Just curious, why OSB instead of drywall?
Very nice!! Is that an upstairs bedroom on top?
Chris... Cheaper, Easier To Hang, No Mudding or Painting, and more durable. I have finished and painted sheet rock in my attached garage.

Greg... The trusses were pre-built to cut cost so it is not an exactly an open room. There is a ton of storage space though.

(Message edited by aarond0083 on December 09, 2008)

Grant, I didn't do the drive through door bay because the 11' doors are expensive. Backing it in the garage is no harder than backing it down the ramp. I do come down my driveway forward and just circle around the building so I don't have to back it very far at all. I will say had I not had a budget I probably would have put in a rear door.

SICK! Nice work man... Your boats gonna love that place...
I want one.

Very nice.
Aaron nice job. I think anyone that has a boat wants what you have. A nice clean well lit place to keep your boat safe and dry. Can I ask how much did it cost you to build that? I have no idea what somthing like that would cost.
I want one of those when I grow up!
Aaron, Nice garage. You should mount some wakeboard racks on that back wall so you can store your boards and everything. Great job on the oversize doors, that sure makes it nice!!
Thanks for the kind words guys.

Grant, I built the entire garage for just under $20,000. My uncle is a General Contractor so that helped me keep the price down. I did the wiring and shingles myself.

Mel, I plan to pick up some cheap tower racks on eBay for just that.
Here is another pic with the doors down.

Congrats. Very nice.

WOW: Thats a deal. Foundation/Permits/Materials 20k Awesome great job.

Permits such a sweet kid.

Nah that looks really nice man and just waht every man needs especially if they're a boat owner. Kudos

I wonder how long it will be before you say "shoulda gone bigger" (.)(.) and shops its always the same story.

(Message edited by hatepain on December 10, 2008)

Aaron, how wide are those doors? The wife and I have a lot near the lake and looking at one at the lake, only thing is the lake lot is not big enough to have a shop like that. The lot near the lake is 2 acres. She is picking out the house while I am designing the garage. Mine will be 3 bay with a small apt. upstairs for watching ball games, etc... Looking at 30K for the whole thing.
very nice....as i go dump sleet off the blue tarp....

nice guard dog too
Colombian. Doors are 11' wide.

My 210 would go in a 9' door at my last house, but it was a tight squeeze.
So the doors are 11'H and 11'W?
Yes. 11'x11'

You will struggle to build a 3 Bay with oversized doors and a finished upstairs for 30K though. Unless you get some killer pricing on everything.
Could you send your uncle over here? I'll take one of those too!
Aaron, my cousin is also in construction so he and I will be the ones building it. The upstairs part will only have an bathroom, sink and fridge. Just the basics only. I kept it this way so that my wife does not get the idea that her mom can come over and stay for long periods of time. Just a place where us guys can watch the ball game and play poker.
Gotcha. Post some pics when your done. Sounds like it is going to be nice. Are you going to do oversized doors as well?
I was looking at 10' doors, but now thinking of adding just one 11' and the other 2 as 9'. I like Grant's, "G" thinking on having another door on the back side for a drive through. I have the land in one place and it would work. Just wondering about heating and cooling that thing.
Sucks you gotta walk to the garage to get a beer.
