Need a boat board/big guy board.

Had an Inland Tako that somehow went missing....we liked it, but asking for suggestions from riders on what else would be good. Or if anyone has something they are selling.

infinitysurf 05-20-2017 6:46 PM

Love my Doomswell Neo, hard to go wrong with that or the Doomswell Nubstep, only difference is the front. Nubstep is pointed and the Neo is blunted for reverse riding. Does do me much good yet since I am not good enough yet to switch, but plan to grow into it

See if there are blemished Doomswell Spark Plugs left--for $400. Good up to 240 I would say. I also have one I would sell if you're unable to find one left from them. Good fun board that works for teaching too. I just have too many boards!

soonerbilly 05-21-2017 8:55 AM

Would the spark plugs make a good beginner board? Are they fragile? Don't look to be compression molded. How much you selling for Dakota?

I don't think it would be too fragile, in my humble opinion any compression molding board is a POS. So maybe I'm a little too uppity LOL! With all 4 fins in it it would be an excellent beginner board.

dakota4ce 05-21-2017 9:38 AM

Do they have any of their big ones left?

soonerbilly 05-21-2017 7:15 PM

I only saw the 4'4" ones left....what about an inland green room?

dakota4ce 05-21-2017 7:23 PM

Inland strikes me expensive for what you get--not familiar with the green room?

I would think about letting this one go. It's been ridden 3x

soonerbilly 05-22-2017 7:04 AM

Can you send a few pics to billy.bowler@yahoo.com along with a price shipped to 31088 zip?

dakota4ce 05-22-2017 8:06 AM

Yep -- be a couple days. It's at the cabin but I am headed back ASAP!

nickm 05-22-2017 8:12 AM

I have an excellent condition 4-10 doomswell Drone for sale, only reason I'm parting with it is because it's too big for me. If your interested PM me and I'll text you picks.

BTW you can call Brock at Doomswell and ask him about this board he will tell about rider size for it.

wakemitch 05-22-2017 9:46 AM

The Captain from Victoria Wake. It is super easy to ride for beginners, but really fast, lightweight, and strong. Stable and predictable. Great for big guys 200-280lbs

soonerbilly 05-22-2017 11:04 AM

Nick....your profile is set to private won't accept PM. Mitch....thanks I'll check them out.

soonerbilly 05-22-2017 11:13 AM

Mitch....little more than I want to spend to just have a board available for peeps, unless you know of one used or get a hookup on them.

drnate 05-22-2017 2:29 PM

I would just buy another Tako. You're not gonna find too many boards for $400 ish new

I just checked Doomswell website--it said they had white blemish Spark Plug 4'8" in stock? Good up to 250#. Compared to a TAKO this is 47 times better.

Seriously, would be a great board at that price. Absolutely what I would do!

Drone listed above is also a good board--just a little more "darty" due to a hard skim rail. Spark Plug has softer rail, wider nose.

Mine rides easy peasy. I have it for a boat/teaching board, exactly what you're looking for.

I just posted this up on the Board of the Week page. It is a very lightly used Made in the USA Custom Sixer, 4'8".
The owner just picked up a Ringer XXL. He is an older gentleman that just wants to cruise. He like the Sixer but finds it too fast and responsive for his ridding right now.

Nick makes incredible boards. Bar none.

soonerbilly 05-25-2017 10:42 AM

I saw a 2016 Victoria Captain online for 400ish.....are they the same board as 2017 with just different graphics?

wakemitch 05-25-2017 12:35 PM

The 2017 has a little more nose rocker. Everything else is the same.

soonerbilly 06-02-2017 7:50 AM

So what about the Hyperlite line for a boat board? Broadcast, Shim, Time Machine, HIFI?
Would one of those be a good boat board capable of letting a 250# pound guy try?

soonerbilly 06-02-2017 7:53 AM

Still really thinking about a custom or the 2016 Victoria Caption. But I can get the Hyperlites in last years model for under 200.

To compare the Victoria Captain to a Hyperlite: the Victoria is made in the USA, it is closed cell foam (much stiffer and it wont bubble and delaminate in heat), Vacuum bagged rather than compression molded(super light and strong), shorter but still faster (easier to maneuver), thinner (holds an edge better and is more stable).

I believe they didn't have the Captain in XL for 16, they brought it back for 17. I could be mistaken though.

I have a Doomswell Bigstep (Brock called it a mega step haha) I absolutely love this board!

I also ride a Victoria Factor PCX XL 15 model. Great skimmer & holds me in the wave pretty good as long as there is enough push.

I'm 6'3 300lbs

I'd also consider Brigade, I think their big boy board is called the surf couch.

I also see Lake Wakes on Insta always posting big boy boards under 5 honey.

Hey guys, I will speak from experience. I have tried many boards, and many times failed. I am 5'11 and at 300. This weekend I got to try the best board I ever held and rode. The RInger XXl from chaos, Man first try no problem, was able to let go of the rope instantly and rode. It was so much fun, it was so tiring too, with all the control and trying to carve. My friends who are 190 and 150, both rode it and love it. its lighter then there hyperlites. They loved the board. Then I have two other guys who rode it and are planning on ordering. Its well worth the money!! its a beautiful board as well. I bought a phase 5 kong, and it stunk! but this board was perfect. Even on a crappy wave too.

I'm 234 pounds and I can ride the O'Brien Haze (5'2") Ropeless with ease.

Great board

TNwakeboarder86 06-06-2017 9:44 AM

Maybe we should classify what big guy means. I think average guy weight is from 190-245. Big guy to me is anyone 260 and up. Are you truly looking for big guy board? Just throwing that out there since I was told the same thing try this try that, but everyone claims big guy is a smaller weight, true big guys are BIG and proud of it!

dakota4ce 06-08-2017 6:26 AM

For the love of all things good, buy something good like the Ringer XXL. You absolutely will not be disappointed.

soonerbilly 06-08-2017 6:54 AM

I'm pretty sure that's the direction im headed. Been in contact with Nick so hopefully I'll be able to comment soon on one of my own.
