What is the law for driving at night? I know the navigation lights should be on, but shouldn't the anchor light at the rear also be on when underway?

yes

I thought so. My switch is jacked up, it's a 3 position switch. When on "NAV" the front running lights are on but the anchor light is not. But the anchor light works when switched to "Anchor". Wiring must be wrong. Anyone have a diagram?

Your switch should be a DPDT with 6 connections on the back and look something like this.

14
25
36

1 - to running lights 4 - to Anchor light
2 - to power 5 - to power
3 - open 6 - to Anchor light

This is should be how it is run. This assume that when you push the top of the switch is pushed you want all lights on. When you press the bottom of the switch just the anchor light will be on.

Switch marked like this

NAV
OFF
ANC

I would guess the wire in position 4 is not connected if your anchor light is not working in the nav position.

You can just jump position 4 and 6 directly together. This would correct the problem.

Hope this helps
