Wish him luck.

Last night Allen landed a grande scarerow in the flats. He landed wrong, causing the board to stop abrubtly which fractured the top of his tibia at the knee/knuckle. They admitted him last night for surgery this morning.

dakid 04-27-2007 7:16 AM

good luck allen.

peter_c 04-27-2007 7:22 AM

Yikes! Wishing you best for a healthy recovery Allen.

That is one of those tricks that has injured quite a few people. Seems most of them take out their tibula/fibula too.

deuce 04-27-2007 7:36 AM

WOW....OUCH.....

Best wishes for a fast, complete and painless recovery.

mcwakerider 04-27-2007 7:36 AM

good luck Allen.

that sucks

big_ed_x2 04-27-2007 7:46 AM

good luck Allen, best wishes for fast recovery.

wakebrdmom 04-27-2007 7:48 AM

My thoughts go out to Allen. I hope his surgery and recovery are quick and painfree. The tibial plateau is the same as I broke 9 weeks ago. Thankfully I did not require surgery.

Good luck to you Allen.

parkgirl 04-27-2007 7:49 AM

Sucks Allen!
Hope everything goes well and you heal up fast.

socalwakepunk 04-27-2007 7:54 AM

Good luck Allen. Recover fast, drink milk, ride hard.

wakecis 04-27-2007 7:55 AM

good luck. i fractured the tibial plateau (topside of tibia) but it was non-displaced so i didn't need surgery to put the pieces back.

i was meaning to do ts o/a 5's but was actually doing scarecrows with a handle pass. the scarecrow rotation did me in.

good luck to Allen, good news is that it heals relatively quickly and will be strong. gotta work all the neighboring small muscles.

mendo247 04-27-2007 7:59 AM

wow..

best of luck Allen.. wish you a very speedy recovery!

load 04-27-2007 8:00 AM

wakeguru 04-27-2007 8:48 AM

Best wishes for a speedy recovery

denverd1 04-27-2007 9:35 AM

best of luck

guido 04-27-2007 9:36 AM

I'm pretty sure I should be a doctor.... I diagnosed that thing right there in the emergency room. The doc was telling Al that he thought he tore all the ligaments and I was going "hmmm, that looks like a tibia plateau fracture". I think that's how you know you've been around wakeboarding too much. LOL!!! I guess Al got his wish. He told the nurse that he wanted it to be a broken bone instead of ligament damage because it heals faster. She thought he was crazy. She was like "your not really going to ride again after this?" Al looked at her like she was nuts.

Good luck, Al... I guess that's one way to get out of going to so-cal to see the family. Heal up quick, bro.

lizzyb 04-27-2007 9:40 AM

Good luck Allen! Hope you have a fast recovery.

ivyrider 04-27-2007 9:41 AM

Best wishes for a fast recovery!!!

raketball 04-27-2007 10:07 AM

That sucks to hear about Allen. Good luck with the recovery.

Evan, you should market yourself as an official Delta Doctor. I think I see a career change in your future........lol.

Tibia plateau fractures are no fun. That is exact reason I will be wearing my CTi for racquetball and wakeboarding for a loooooong time. Kind of sucks for some people (like me) knowing they will probably need knee replacement later on in life.

T

liquidmx 04-27-2007 10:07 AM

Best Wishes Al.

The 'crow is what took me out too back in oct.

wakecis 04-27-2007 11:27 AM

CIE EVAN, very funny. i broke mine in groveland florida and the emergency room doc was all, "you probably tore ligaments, nobody EVER breaks the knee" yea, X-rays told a different story. ought to put wakeboard photos in medical books.

bigpapaf1f 04-27-2007 11:42 AM

Sorry to hear that!!!! Good luck Bro!!! Wish you the best!!!!!

breakz77 04-27-2007 11:48 AM

As everyone else said.. wish you the best to a fast recovery!

See you at spring ride next week

richd 04-27-2007 12:25 PM

That's terrible news, give him our best.

How long for it to heal up?

wakelvr 04-27-2007 12:33 PM

Best of luck to you Allen for a speedy and thorough recovery.

Would a CTI brace really help prevent this sort of break? They are custom fit, yes? We have three at our house. Maybe it's time to donate one to someone because we do not need all three.

brodie_chaboya 04-27-2007 12:49 PM

It happens to all of us at some point. good luck and hope for a speedy recovery. My bud did the same thing, you'll be back soon enough.

mjmurphy53711 04-27-2007 12:52 PM

Ouch man, good luck.

wakebrdmom 04-27-2007 12:56 PM

The problem with tibial plateau fractures is not putting any weight on them for a while. Most doc's will require non-weight bearing until the bones heal. Then he'll need to get his ROM back. Hopefully Allen does not have any further damage other than the bones.

Does anyone know how his surgery went?

nuckledragger 04-27-2007 12:57 PM

Heal up quick Allen, summer's only around for so long.

guido 04-27-2007 1:01 PM

Timmay.... He was wearing a CTI on that knee when it happened. There goes that theory, eh?

deltagrubber 04-27-2007 1:29 PM

Best wishes and heal fast Allen!!!

walt 04-27-2007 1:51 PM

Good luck Allen !

h20diva 04-27-2007 2:49 PM

Thanks for all the support guys. I visited Allen. He's doing well. Hopefully we can post the xrays. He's got 4 screws.

sherman 04-28-2007 2:13 AM

get well soon Allen

wakeboardad 04-28-2007 6:56 AM

Good luck Allen. As a Radiographer and a Wakeboarder Tib / Fib injuries are always on my mind. Unfortunately Knee Braces don’t always help this injury.

Here is a MR image of a Tibia injury post surgery. Again, Recover well Allen.

04-28-2007 11:48 AM

Best wishes Allen. Speedy recovery.

allen 04-28-2007 5:00 PM

Hey guys,
Thanks for all of the kind words and well wishes. Still in a lot of pain and the doc said NO!!!! weight for 4-6 weeks. He said there was alot of trauma to the bone surface and to the MCL. He trimed up my MCL and put two screws about 3" long toward the top and two more bout 2.5" down lower. They have me in a ROM machine right now they don't want the scar tissue to build up.
It's injurys like this and the fact that I have been in surgry twice in 6 months that make me wonder if the risk is worth it. My initial thought is that it is but the fact that I can't carry my baby girl around the house for 6 weeks just plain sucks. So we'll see hopefully the pain goes away soon.
And hell yes I will be at CIE Spring Ride, You ever seen a drunk guy on Vicodine HAHAHAHA
Thanks guys see you soon, I'll be the driver.
Al

mendo247 04-28-2007 6:06 PM

clubjoe 04-28-2007 6:07 PM

Listen to the doc (mostly), and speedy recovery!

antbug 04-28-2007 8:41 PM

damn bro. sorry to hear the bad news. see you soon and best wishes from Liz and I.

wakescene 04-28-2007 9:40 PM

I broke mine my Tibia Plato clean off in 2003. 2 Surgery's and 4month PT, took nearly a year to recover, and 1.5 till I was 100%. Not trying to shed bad light on this, only that I can fully relate to the injury.

Best of luck Allen!

oh yea, here were my screws...

big_ed_x2 04-28-2007 10:48 PM

Hang in there Allen, the sooner you get better the sooner you get to carry your little girl around.

Man that broke my heart when you said that.

BTW make sure you get the real Vicodin, that generic stuff is just not the same.

dakid 04-28-2007 10:57 PM

my buddy broke his tibia plateau and had miniscus damage a few years ago. he was back up in 3 months (i think) and is riding better than ever (no post-op issues), and riding mx as well.

allen 04-29-2007 7:08 PM

Hey guys
here are a few pics of my tibia sorry about the quality but taking pictures of X-rays is not that easy. I think the screws are about the size as the ones above.

The black line is where the fracture is

The four screws there are two toward the top you can't seee the back one

The scope hole and the cut

wakelvr 04-29-2007 7:39 PM

Doesn't seem like a lot of swelling. That's good, it will probably cut your heal time:-)

jay_j 04-30-2007 5:07 PM

Thats my boy, and I thought you learned from me when I did mine.... guess not. You saw me through mine, and I was back on the water in a couple months. You're definitely lucky it wasn't your ACL or any other ligaments and just the bone. You'll be back sooner than you think, especially your stupid A@@. See ya this weekend if not sooner.

kevin_lsv23 04-30-2007 8:10 PM

Just remember, scars are tattoos with better stories. Get well soon.

jarrod 04-30-2007 8:37 PM

Nice!

domin8 05-01-2007 8:46 AM

All our crew sends best wishes healing up.

wakescene 05-01-2007 10:48 AM

Jason R is right...lucky it's only the bone. I tore both the inner and outer ligaments as well as the bone fracture. ACL though was strong and thankfully or I would have had multiple surgeries to fix everthing.

gina_h 05-01-2007 11:33 AM

So sorry to hear about this Allen!! We're hoping you heal sooner than expected and that the pain goes away quick!
What is it about scarecrows??!!

kaben 05-01-2007 2:16 PM

Get better man. Britt says she hopes you feel better soon as well.

(Message edited by kaben on May 01, 2007)
