My son's riding is so past being ready for a backroll. He wants it so bad, but when he's out there he just can't make himself try it. He is getting REALLY frustrated. Any ideas? Thanks.

trampoline practice, air rolls in the flats, that stuff should get him past the fear
Do you ride with people who can do backrolls? Seeing others do a smooth backroll can build confidence, and their knowledge can help him get over that 'what do I do next' hump.
When i cant get up the confidence to do a trick, i get alot of people into the boat and make the peer pressure me into it haha

I agree with trying the air rolls in the flats. Working on air rolls will really help him understand loading the line and building a good edge. Great suggestion Tim. A couple of good looking girls cheering him on could also provide some additional courage. He could also try a Tantrum, this trick is very easy to duplicate on a trampoline, however it requires more speed into the wake than a backroll. I wish your son the best of luck.

What is an air roll in the flats?
Here is one explanation, although not the standard approach to an air roll.

http://www.wakeboard.com.sg/index.php?showtopic=137

it looks harder with out a wake, but i'll try to get him to try it!
Is an air trick really that difficult tho? It looks really hard but when i get out on the water, it seems pretty do- able to me. Air tricks do look really cool too
