It's funny, I actually took my board (Watson's first pro board, the Helix 136) off the wall at work and brought it home to ride it yesterday. I forgot how much a 3-stage board 'dogs' it when you are cruising, and what a pleasure it is not to 'crank' down those old Plush Pros anymore. Great memories though...

New to the site, and i figured it would be better to post my question here than to start a new topic...

Im heading down to virginia beach for the summer and my cousin wants me to go wakeboarding with him. I told him that i've never done if and he said its easy. So says him. Since i need a board, what would be a good starter board? I saw some video on ourstage.com and it seems there are a lot of options when it comes to choosing the board, the bindings(?), etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Simon you will get more responses if you start a new thread. The board I posted above is a Hyperlite State 140(the white one). It was as great beginner board that isn't going to hold you back. Unless they made the state bindings better I would pass on them and get better bindings like Torq's. When I bought my package it was the board and state bindings for 400 bucks. That was 2 years ago so you can find a good deal out there on this stuff. If your buddy is set up on boarding you could always mooch off his gear. Just my $.02

This isn't my board but same model and the color was yellow. This is the board that started my obsession to the sport. I ended up giving my Skurfer away to a family that wanted to try the sport out. After this I went with a CWB Area 51 with Techno Vert Bindings. I wish I still had the Techno Vert's to show everybody how unsafe they were.

Sorry for the picture that is the only one that I could find right off hand.
|
My first board, and still have it, was the "HO Hyper Lite" Purple, Orange and Yellow with the bungie bindings. Sorry I don't have a picture, I'll take one tonight. We had a yellow Skurfer, but I don't call that a wakeboard because that thing was more of a pain infliction device. I have a hip pointer to this day because of that POJ.
|
Hyper lite! Picked it up for 50 bones from a frustrated neighbor who couldn't figure out how to get up on it. Back then it still had the bungee straps too though.

Josh - The Vert bindings! yes i too rocked a pair of those back in the day. They were space age with no ankle support haha.
|
List of boards:
Neptune Viscous Fishes with strap bindings.(i'll have to try to find a picture)
Hyperlite Rebel with boot bindings(i forgot the model)
Lavelle with moonboots
Murray honeycomb with 360 bindings
Belmont with Parks bindings
3DS with zeus(hingtech) bindings
Next board??? Probably the One or the Watson.

neptune 'IT'
Chase Heaveners pro model

the first board i had was an o'brien shredder. i got it on my 8th birthday from my dad. i refused to get out of the water until i got up on it. it took about 45 minutes but finally i prevailed. wish i still had that sucker. but i do still have the 96' obrien double ender with the original bindings. i tried riding that thing last season just for kicks it was horrific.
|
My first board was a Connelly before they became CWB. It had Sub Rosa bungee bindings.
