There has been a lot of discussion lately about ballast. A lot of darts thrown at one brand or another for offering ballast as an option, or a marketing plan that says "you don't need Ballast with our boat".

I do not want this to be a thread about bashing a brand. This thread does not even need your opinion. These subjects have been racked over the coals enough, the horse is dead, stop whipping it. If you feel a need to "go there" go somewhere else, as there are half a dozen threads going right know on the subjects.

What I would like, is honest answers about what boat you own, and your ballast set-up..........

*Don't ride with any.

*Factory set-up only (how much)

*Factory + additional (how much of each)

*Ordered boat with out and added my own. (how much)

I have a Tige 22Ve, no factory ballast, added my own = 1300#'s

I appreciate every one's time on this.

2006 Centruion Elite V. Surfing 2150#'s. Boarding 2300#'s. plus people

Do you want older boats as well?

1989 SN 2001. Currently ride with (last fall) dry, next spring dry to ~400 lbs. (~800 lbs. ballast capacity) depending on people.

nikwho 01-22-2008 6:57 AM

I have an 02' Tige 22i. Rode with 1200lbs. need to put together new ballast system though. thinking about maybe going with more weight.

absoluteboarder 01-22-2008 6:59 AM

.......supra 21v ......just upgraded my bags to 2300lbs from 1200. Its always nicer and more fun to play with a larger wake.

on my old crestliner 17.5 we used 1200# plus people.

absoluteboarder 01-22-2008 7:46 AM

......hey craig what speed can you ride at with that much weight?

cdtex14 01-22-2008 7:49 AM

anything less than 23.5 it's hard to keep clean, so usually between 23.5 and 24. I think my speedo is a little off too.

2004 Supra 22SSV

Replaced 900lbs stock ballast with 2400lbs ballast. All still at the flip of a switch and internally hidden, no extra sacks to fill up laying in the floor.

2001 Tige 21 V-
no factory option back then

800 in the back, was 700 until late last year, in custom ballast set up.

300 in lead up front, will add some more upfront to even it out. would like to add sack to the front and tie it into the ballast system, just do not feel like paying for it.

(Message edited by RKG on January 22, 2008)

'06 Malibu Wakesetter VLX:
Stock 1250 plus additional
* 450 in lead in the nose
* 2 Fly High Pro 750s in the trunks filled 3/4 to full
* no wedge used but have the power wedge

When switching riders between advanced and not we will use full stock ballast
* 450 in lead in the nose (this is it for beginners)
* add a touch to the sacks in the trunk and the wedge for advanced. Gives a peakier wake like the 210 hull.

When riding most of the time we've got around 2500-3000lbs total depending on people in the boat.

04 Centurion Lightning.

800-1100 rear: DIY after market plumbing.
300-400 center: stock
300-500 front: aftermarket 550#s partially filled but no plumbing and just leave full most of the time, unless I have a ton of people in the boat and, cough, I am pulling tubes or some other non-wake application for the boat.

Stock wake is pretty small and would be a disapointment for anyone except the true beginner or skater.

bird_dog0347 01-22-2008 10:10 AM

2007 Mobius LSV
came with stock 1200#, 400x3
Wakeboarding,
added 2 750 fly high to rear lockers, and put the original 2 400 from the rear stacked in walkway and nose for 1200 up front and 1500 in back

Surfing,
Port side gets 750 in rear locker, 750 on seats in front of rear 750, 400 beside that, 400 stock front plus people stacked on that side.

bill_airjunky 01-22-2008 10:10 AM

Foil rider behind a Vride. 900 lbs of stock ballast. No Wedge.
Looking to setup a bow sack under the bow seats, probably about 200 lbs. Just to settle it down quicker over other boat's wakes.

liquidmx 01-22-2008 11:06 AM

00 vlx, 600 bow sack, 350 locker sack, 350 over locker, 450 trunk sacks, 900lbs of lead (move-able). And a plumb-able 1000lb sack for when the conditions are right.

I bought my boat used with the factory ballast of two trunk sacks and a locker sack.

2004 B52V

Stock plus a little more.

Stock total is 1800#'s. I added a integrated Flyhigh bow sack that holds 750#'s I think.

The boat is a little slow to plane with the back full and no weight in the front.

I typically run 3/4 full in the back, and probably 500#'s in the front. The wake is great with this setup.

Surfing is full in the front, and full in the back on one side. I am adding a cube (85#'s) to the far back corner this summer for surfing.

Darin

Cool thread, but I have another thing maybe to add. I think it would be neat if people put in their ability level that they ride at as well.

06 Mastercraft X1
Stock ballast approx 900 lbs
Extra sand/lead approx 500 lbs
Total ballast weight is about 1400 give or take passengers
Intermediate level riders (basic inverts)
Any more is overkill for my ability level, my back, and drains the gas tank too fast IMO.

2004 Centurion Enzo SV230:

Replaced stock tanks with 750# Fly-High's in each rear compartment. Up front, I've got only 200#'s of lead (pop bags, really). Thinking about adding an integrated bow sac (saw one last week at the boat show in a new Enzo SV230). I've learned what many here already knew...you can't throw all the weight in the aft. Hull performs better (and boat performs more efficiently) if there is more of a balanced weighting of the hull into the water, with a bias of more weight towards the rear. I assume that balance differs somewhat for each model of boat.

Currently, for Boarding, I fill the back sac's 2/3's full (easier on the hole shot...I've only got the 315hp 350 MAG).

For surfing, we completely fill the specific rear sac that we'll be surfing on (usually port, of course), and make sure all the pop-bags up front are on the same side (40# bags are easy to move).

Ride on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
