Sunglasses? Need recommendations.

I just shattered my lens on my sunglasses, 2nd time in the last month, and I am not paying $75 again to get them fixed. I'm moving on to another brand. Any recommendations? I need a pair that fit a big head.

jarrod 05-28-2010 3:08 PM

Eric,

You you watch whiskymilitia.com? I've had some great scores there with Spy and Oakley.. Otherwise, Ilove my Von Zippers and my Fox shades, I've got over 20 pairs now.

norcalbordr 05-28-2010 3:19 PM

Spy Dirty Mo's are sick! I also have the Fox Conditions and those are badass too.

bcrider 05-28-2010 3:29 PM

I got 2 pairs of the fox " the meetings" and I love em. Gold and chrome....both with Iridium lenses.

I fish as well as wakeboard and am aboard or off shore 6 days a week. Sunglasses are so important I write them off my taxes. (true) Catch a 4oz jig in the face when the hook pulls and you want good shades or go blind. Spend the last 2.5 decades in the Florida sun and you'll want the best for your eyes. As a marine surveyor I kinda relay upon my vision.

Maui Jim. That is all I wear.

Note** I have a pair of 580 Costa Del Mars that I keep for snow. Crazy good for snow glare but can't compare to the Mj's on the water.

baitkiller 05-28-2010 3:36 PM

Did I say "relay"?

Friggn'n spell check

I was getting ready to post Maui Jims as well. The optics are ridiculously good, plus they have a comfortable fit.

mmobius2001 05-28-2010 4:06 PM

i picked up the Oakley gas cans and i cant stand them, frames look good, but they dont fit your head worth a crap. everytime i look down to do anything they fall right off my face onto the ground/floor/water whatever.

ClutchIndustries 05-28-2010 4:07 PM

Scott USA is where it's at!

jarrod 05-28-2010 4:12 PM

Dave...I rock the Meetings too. I have the gold ones. So dope!

bcrider 05-28-2010 4:26 PM

^^^ you and I own way too much of the same stuff.lol.

Rotologs and matching belts, 51 30, and now sunglasses.

But I guess that means we both have rediculously good taste as well :)

ilikebeaverandboats 05-28-2010 4:42 PM

Spy clash are awesome. 2 pairs of those.

05-28-2010 5:07 PM

Maui Jims are what I shattered. I love them but they charge $75 to replace the lenses. You drop them once and they are done. I have some Spys also and they are super durable, I want some more durable.

Jrod- those VZ's are sick.

tylen01 05-28-2010 6:04 PM

oakley flax jacket... best fit for shades I've ever worn.

tro 05-28-2010 6:41 PM

Maui Jim, Costa Del Mar, Flying Fisherman

in that order. you need nothing else. good luck with your search.

sippi 05-28-2010 7:13 PM

I used to go through costas but I got tired of EVERYONE around here having the same glasses. Oakley gascans are way to small for my face. I've had a polarized pair of Oakley hijynks (or however you spell them) for close to a year and I LOVE them. They stay on my face very well, and the polarized lenses are awesome. Three of my friends have tried them on and all went out and got them right after. Highly suggest those. And they look cool haha.

elc 05-28-2010 8:45 PM

VZ or Hoven are my picks. http://www.hovenvision.com/

hockeysk8er222 05-28-2010 8:59 PM

BOMBER!!!! My Nitros are sick. You want quality for cheap, I got em for 30 bucks and theyre polarized lens with a polycarbonate frame. They float, and when I dropped them off my roof(don't ask)...not even a scratch. Bombereyewear.com

bbr 05-28-2010 9:59 PM

Check out Tres Noir. They are by far the best glasses I have ever owned. Nothing but quality, and good looks....plus not everyone else has them. I have two pair and will be getting a third here very soon. They are DOPE!

www.tresnoir.com

Oh and I gotta big ass head too! haha

sidekicknicholas 05-29-2010 12:08 AM

Just picked up 8 pairs of RayBan knock offs for $8 on ebay.... if they only last 2 weeks, oh well!

boutwell_43 05-29-2010 12:24 AM

Oakley Oil rigs.....good coverage. Just my opinion

hawkeye7708 05-29-2010 5:41 AM

I love my Spy La Crosses!!!

dave23 05-29-2010 8:05 AM

I've got these Oakley Eye Patches and love them. The lens are huge, I wish the side arms were a little thicker to block out more sun from the sides. I had Oakley Gascan's and they were too small. Got a polarized pair on sale for under $100.

dan_lorenze 05-29-2010 9:43 AM

Oakley Polarized, best lenses I've tried..

technarider 05-29-2010 9:38 PM

+1 on the EyePatch's have the same pair and work great.. got it for under 80 on one of the 1 deal at a time sites

nwarhol1105 05-30-2010 8:20 AM

Oakley Dispatchs. Buy them.

kkong72 05-30-2010 10:30 AM

+1 for anything oakley

ironj32 05-30-2010 11:00 AM

no ones recommended a $10-$15 pair for the local gas station, yet??? maybe i'm the only one who breaks them or loses them a lot? anyway, that's what I roll with.

ironj32 05-30-2010 11:01 AM

oops, i see that Nick roll's cheap like me...must be a midwest thing :D

AIrwar209 05-30-2010 4:24 PM

Spy Cooper. I tend to stick with what works. I have four pairs now, I get a new color every season. The oldest pair I have still fits great and have scratch free lenses. Not too expensive either. Check em out.

lfrider92 05-30-2010 10:04 PM

oakley gascans. so comfortable. love them out on the water. drop them off the top of my hat ALL the time onto concrete, floors, anything. no scratches at all. thank god. i think i would cry. haha

Harley Clifford has been wearing this new style called Holbrook. These could be a good option if your looking for new shades this summer.

cwb4me 05-31-2010 6:33 PM

if they will make me wakeboard like harley i'll buy them . i have maui jim costa del mars and ray bans. they are all good.

behindtheboat 06-02-2010 11:39 AM

My Anarchy's have lasted 3 years now.. and gone through a lot. I never would have considered them, but got some polarized for a great deal. They surprise me all the time with durability and scratch resistance.

http://www.anarchyeyewear.com/products/sunglasses.html

Whatever you get, I'm a go polarized or don't go at all. Physics teacher told me in high school if you don't wear polarized you could be doing as much damage as protection with non-polarized lenses

ryanw209 06-02-2010 6:09 PM

Oakley Oil Rig's

denverd1 06-03-2010 8:23 AM

Got a pair of Oil Drums I've had for about a year. Great shades.

Spy Optics: has anyone noticed the fit/shaping of the frames has changed? I can no longer buy Spy's with confidence b/c I'm unsure if they will fit my face. ANyone else noticed this?

WakeboardNJ 06-03-2010 10:02 AM

Ray Ban! I have been wearing Rayban's for a little over a year now and nothing I have had in the past compares. Optics, filters, comfort etc are all top notch. Yes everyone says they are old man sunglasses, but their new styles are fantastic. Check em out, you will be impressed.

wake77 06-03-2010 10:09 AM

I don't know Nacho, I received a pair of Haymakers last fall and they fit me great, but my brother doesn't like how they fit his face.

cwb4me 06-03-2010 10:10 AM

but kevin you are a OLD MAN to these YOUNG BUCKS on ww. i know i know lol you looked at my profile and said well he's ancient!

dirwoody 06-03-2010 10:44 AM

NATIVE!
Nobody's thrown it out there! I have a pair of Gonzo's. They stay on better than my Gascans, the optics are on the same level as well, but they are way more comfortable. I also rock a pair of Costa's, but the Native's come out more and more! They have a great warranty too
http://www.nativeyewear.com/

mikejones 06-03-2010 11:16 AM

Oakly or Spy. My preference are the O-oil rigs.

Matt 06-03-2010 12:14 PM

I love my polorized RayBans, but if im headed to the lake I stop a a gas station & buy a set... I have donated atleast 6 pair to the water...

downfortheride 06-03-2010 3:44 PM

Take a look at Arnette's, I just picked up the Infamous and they are super comfy and light! Not a bad pair of shades under $100

wakekid72501 06-03-2010 5:02 PM

I would definitely go with Oakley. I have a pair of Oakley Half Jackets that i customized. but if you are looking for something a little more stylish i would look at the Oakley Antix.

epicwinnipeg 06-03-2010 9:41 PM

CIRE...

being that you only responded to one suggestion, the VZ stache, i'll chime in here. i have these in black and they are super fun and get a lot of play but they don't feel super solid. also have the vz fultons that are great and feel much better. still couldn't pick one over the other if i had to though. take a look at anon too. i have the allnighters but don't wear them much. their 'flasher' is along the same lines as the vz stache.

nuckledragger 06-03-2010 9:52 PM

There are so many suggestions above, I don't know what to do now. I have picked out a few I like and I will go to my local shop to try them. Whatever fits best will be coming home with me.

innov8 06-04-2010 7:53 AM

Von zipper!!

andy_nintzel 06-04-2010 9:21 AM

I am all about the S4's all polarized all the time.

I've got some Oakley Fuel Cells on the way. Can't wait cuz I'm down to some really old shades right now. Plus, they have the patriotic "O" and case that you can get now. Too cool!
