Hey everybody,

I needed to re-grip my Kelly Carbon handle, and ended up taking the project a bit further. I'm pretty happy with the result, thought I'd share. I posted them in order of what I did. I'd like to thank my sponsors for this project, Krylon, 3M, and GatorGrip :D.

1) Primer
2) Base
3) Detail Tape
4) Detail Paint
5) Grip Wrap
6) New Handle
7) New Handle

nice work! That turned out really nice!

hawkeye7708 08-06-2010 9:51 AM

For sure! I used 80 grit sandpaper to take the paint/enamel they had on previously off, used 180 grit to smooth everything out for paint, did the paint, let 'er dry, put on a few coats of clear, did the whole grip business, and boom!

Looks Awesome Ben! Now we just have to get out riding again.

I've used the same accurate premier handle for the past 5 or 6 years. I've bought other handles
and always go back to it. It is the blue tractor grip one and there is nothing that feels normal to me except for it. both of the black accurate cushions have ripped off, and there are a couple holes on the grip but nothing that would effect your grip. it will have to just break in half or get stolen before I part ways with it. she is truly one of a kind.

Looks good!

Just an FYI, if you do a lot of spins beware of the increased possibility of breaking an arm with a full carbon handle. I have seen two broken arms on 7's with that type of handle, one fully compound with the bone sticking out.

Why is a full carbon handle more prone to cause a broken arm?? Your arm goes all the way through the handle when going for the handle pass and one presses on the outside of the arm and the other the inside. As the boat pulls the rope it pulls the handle applying a twist and locking (moment) on the handle which in turn snaps your forearm.

Does that make sense?? A handle with soft sides slides off the arm.

Anyhow, nice job on the refinish.

Sam,

Eek... that's no good! I'm working on adding spins to my repertoire, was getting really close on HS/TS 3's, but really cranked my ankle on one landing that has forced me to take the last month or so off from doing them. I can see your point however. The next handle I purchase will probably be a soft sider, but for the moment, I'm gonna ride this pony till it keels over! ha and Thank you!
