i was wondering how much weight everyone is using these days

800--1200
1200-1600
1600-2000
2000-2500
2500--up

big_ed_x2 09-17-2005 11:00 AM

water or lead ballast????

It does make a differents which one you are using.

madchild1 09-17-2005 12:09 PM

WATER! i'll never use lead in my current boat. even in a future boat i would only use it in moderation. you can always get rid of water ballast whereas you're stuck with lead.

clubjoe 09-17-2005 12:29 PM

310 water, 280 lead, plus stock ballast (750), plus soda and two wrenches..........

mjmurphy53711 09-17-2005 3:57 PM

1400 water, 225 lead.

www.wakecoupons.com

just curious how water vs. lead ballast makes a difference? the water that the boat displaces has no idea nor does it care where weight comes from...

Calabria Pro V... 700 lb internal always. 1200 lbs of sacks if we are feeling like we are pros...which we are not!

(Message edited by tdc_worm on September 17, 2005)

tdc worm- "the water that the boat displaces has no idea nor does it care where weight comes from... " - totally agreed... Big Ed please explain.
ktmwakeboarder 09-17-2005 4:42 PM

Weight is weight yeah? Lead vs water is just the amount of space or volume taken up...

1250 fat seat + dual 350 sacs stacked in front "hallway" = 1950

haha, are we gonna get into counting people and gear?

bigshow 09-17-2005 8:00 PM

Big Ed, I think a pound of lead weighs the same as a pound of water. Archimedes figured out the whole density thing.

The ballast material issues are neutral buoyancy (water), and toxicity (lead). Are there other issues?
madchild1 09-18-2005 6:39 PM

the reason lead should be usedin moderation is mostly because of the safety issue. if the boat starts to take on water, lead is going to sink your boat but water will simply swamp it.

other things to consider is, if you are done boarding and want to haul booty on the way out, it's going to be hard with another 1200 in lead. but if you have 1200 in sacks, you can just punp it and be on your way.

jarrod 09-18-2005 8:25 PM

2400 in my 2005 X2. Sometimes more.

wakebordr11 09-18-2005 9:48 PM

1200ish in 99 tige 21I
500-600 in the walkway, 300 or so side sacs ea.
looking into lead or steel... 200-400 lbs to balance and play with setup

canada_air 09-18-2005 10:08 PM

i presently run 1500lbs plus people. my wake is nice when over 2000lbs i am thinking of getting 500lbs of lead to take me to the 2000mark

wakinbakin 09-18-2005 10:34 PM

i run 2000-2500lbs in my 2005 supra launch 22ssv

atlsackedup 09-19-2005 8:46 AM

2055lbs of water in my 2000 MC X-5...wake is nice and steep when over 2000lbs. Anything less than 2000lbs and wake is too small.

mvda 09-19-2005 10:19 AM

Big Ed is correct! Yeah, I know that a pound of water weighs the same as a pound of lead. However, its always seems that 500 lbs of lead in a wakeboard boat tends weigh 25% - 50% more than 500 lbs of water. Why? It's because when people put lead in the boat they stack in ten 50 pound plates and say 500 lbs. Then, someone with a water bag (whose manufacturer claims it holds 500 lbs) fills it most of the way as its pinned between the rear seat and the engine cover and then says 500 lbs. In reality, that water bag in almost at 400 lbs. So, both Archimedes and Big Ed (obviously the smarter one) are correct.

(Message edited by mvda on September 19, 2005)

kybool 09-19-2005 12:03 PM

about 2500 lbs. mostly water.

sjmedic 09-19-2005 1:48 PM

How much does Hot Air weigh?

lunker 09-19-2005 2:05 PM

So far I've been unable to improve the wake on our new 2006 X-30 by adding extra ballast. I've tried 300-700 lbs plus people and never gotten more kick than 2 people with the stock ballast.

airrantz 09-19-2005 2:16 PM

Lunker, put about 2500lbs in the X-30 then you'll notice a difference. 300-700lbs on top of stock won't make the biggest difference in such a large boat.

buzz_grande 09-19-2005 3:53 PM

05 VLX

1250 MLS

420 lead

Sometimes 2 X 400 lb sacks, but not too often

Sometimes wedge

airrantz 09-19-2005 4:14 PM

1000lbs bow + 500lbs rear in my Sanger V210 = very happy me.

bigpapaf1f 09-19-2005 4:27 PM

I my 23V Tige, a 600lbs sac in the nose, and 2 440's in the back. So 1480lbs or close.

guido 09-19-2005 4:59 PM

In the X2

2600 lbs total. Triple KGB=900lbs, 500 sac in the nose, 600 sac in the center of the boat, 300 lead in the nose, 150 lead in each back compartment.

If I have more people I wont run the center sack, but any less than 4 and it gets all the sacks. No complaints yet, eh BG???

The old Sanger DLX got 1800lbs. 200 lb lead in the nose, 400 center ballast in ski locker, 400 rear ballast under back seat, 300 rear lead, and a 500 sack across the floor of the boat behind the motor box.

Weighted like that both boats have similar size wakes. They actually had a pretty similar shape, too. I liked that Sanger; man did it ever handle well with all that weight and not a single problem for 500 hours. The nose got a little too low for comfort, though.

And yes, while lbs are lbs I do agree with what ED is saying. The only way to know true ballast with sacks would be to weigh the boat with and without to determine how much weight you actually get out of them, whereas 500lbs of lead is really 500lbs.

lunker 09-19-2005 8:13 PM

Ryan, do you know this from experience with an 06 X30? It seems that on our boat the more weight we add the flatter the wake gets.

With stock ballast and only 2 inthe boat the wake is very vertical. Fill the boat with people and it gets flatter.
hamkj 09-19-2005 10:16 PM

2004 Sky Supreme V220 - 2800lbs... automatic... front/rear... everywhere!

santa 09-20-2005 12:34 PM

Mobius LS 2004. Water 400 front and 400 back. I have more bags, but realized I don't need to fill them. The wake is good enough like that.

eubanks01 09-20-2005 1:29 PM

Buzz...Where do you put your lead and where did you get it?

(Message edited by eubanks01 on September 20, 2005)

big_ed_x2 09-20-2005 2:21 PM

I experienced with both and since going with mostly lead+stock figured there was a pretty BIG differents in wake size and shape, plus you get to place it in the exactly the space you want,it doesn't move around and last and most important...It's ALWAYS THE SAME!
Not to mention that I got all my storage. There is a fat sac I will putt in the walkway from time to time but I think that it's gonna get retired.

Ohh and as for my boat taking on water and the lead taking it down.....OVERBOARD!!!!

bigpapaf1f 09-20-2005 2:35 PM

Evan has none from me! His wake is BIIIIGGGGG!!!!

Big Ed I hear you don't play around when it comes to a big wake!

cbaird 09-21-2005 8:09 AM

Big Ed, where do you position your weight. I still haven't found the best distribution for my 05 x2. I run two extra 250 sacs in the rear lockers and 350 in the walkway plus full gas tank (makes huge difference) and 3-4 peeps. You have to drive about 23 and its a sensitive wake meaning if it is a little choppy or the driver drifts off to side it'll tend to get washy, not like the stock where it stays pretty clean. I wonder if there needs to be more up front. It seems like the sweet spot is about 70ft with this weight.

bigpapaf1f 09-21-2005 8:54 AM

Chris, Evan has his X2 just right! I have been told that J-rods is good also, and Big Eds is Stupid BIG.(in a good way) So I have been told.

cbaird 09-21-2005 10:18 AM

bg, ed replied on another thread. He suggested moving more weight to the rear instead of up front. It kinda makes sense because whenever I fill the tank to the top it really has a profound effect on the wake size and consistancy.

Evan & J-Rod - do you find it to be true that more weight in the back cleans it up versus the front?

cbaird 09-21-2005 10:41 AM

oops - it wasn't ed that replied on the other thread it joe_788.

mvda 09-21-2005 12:59 PM

J-Rod's wake has been great every time I've been out with him.

big_ed_x2 09-23-2005 5:36 PM

Chris ~ put more weight up front if you can,it really cleans the wake up!!

ohh and J-Rods wake has been great everytime!

hamkj 09-23-2005 9:14 PM

Chris is running just a hair under 2 tons... in his 2006 Epic 23V... all below floor.... with dash mounted switches and gauges....

gene3x 09-24-2005 7:25 AM
