I am starting our search with the plan to by a used boat in the spring and am looking at the 23ft range. LSV, X30, 22V etc, and have a questions about the HP need for these size boats. Is the 320-330 enough or do you NEED more for most riding and casual use. I do not need excess power for extra speed. Will the hole shoot be noticable for casual/recreational use??

Thanks

Better to have too much than too little. I would say that 350 or higher for those boats.

If you have less horse power you can make up for it in prop, but its best in a 23 foot boat to get at least 350.

I have an 04 22SSV with the stainless prop on it and stock 325hp (pretty sure) It's fine. could I use more sure, but not necc. I would not pay more for the upgrade.

My boat weighs about 100 LBS more than the LVS, and over 600 more than the X30. I have a Merc 6.2, with 330 HP, and wish I had more.

Normal driving and up to about 900 LBS, it works great. 1500 LBS could use a little more power. Massive weight about 2000 LBS, not enough motor.

If I was to buy a LSV, I'd go Hammerhead. If I bought a X30, MCX. Don't know much about the 22V. Like everyone always says, test drive, and do it in real world conditions. Drive it how you are gonna drive it.

I'll run stock ballast around 1100 lbs plus 8 or so adults and gear. There is enough power to plane quickly considering the weight (wake plate down)

Will,

It really depends on exactly what you plan to do with the boat. Just wakeboard and cruise, no problem with the right prop.

My boat is pretty heavy (Nautique SV211) with the 330hp PCM it does OK out of the hole for most boarders and slalom skiers with the prop that I am running. Unfortunately it tops out at 42mph for barefooting, just a mile or two shy for me to do solid one footers. To do it over again I might go with the 375hp 6.0 liter but it's a lot of money for just a little extra top end.

If you don't barefoot or speedski you should be fine.

TEST DRIVE THEM FULLY LOADED!
