Received a letter from a law firm in Orlando stating that the Standard Magazine is bankrupt, the assets are being liquidated and subscription holders will be added to the creditors for any potential reimbursments. <BR> <BR>Its a dissapointment that they couldn't make it, the publication was excellent.

They can keep the money that I had left!

There was already a thread on this.

its crazy that they could run that company into the ground so quick with the subscription being as much as it was. not only that but from what i hear they did not pay the photographers who contributed to the mag content

steezyshots 11-22-2008 3:42 PM

Yeah but it costs a lot of money to print the mag on the quality of paper they were using. As well as traveling to go shoot at a lot of the locations they were shooting at.

"they" didnt do it..its not their fault what happend.

dakid 11-22-2008 4:31 PM

this sucks!

wakesk8er2 11-22-2008 4:49 PM

I wouldn't say it was run into the ground. Unfortunately, they're aren't enough people willing to pay that high subscription cost, not to mention, the demand for a $60 wakeboarding print is most likely in the realm of zero. <BR> <BR>They had a good concept, but wakeboarding isn't at a stage in its life cycle where it can support something like the standerd. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by wakesk8er2 on November 22, 2008)

I freaked a bit yesterday when I saw a letter from some attorneys in my mail stack... RIP Standerd... bring it back and set the bar even higher!

wakereviews 11-26-2008 7:26 AM

haha A-dub, I totally freaked too!

It cost a fortune to turn out a mag. Very few ads, means the road is 10 times harder. They didn't run anything into the ground, that shouldn't even be uttered. RIP. <BR>FYI-you would hope the other rags would learn from what made the Standerd so badass, but alas, I have a feeling it will be SOP.

My wife used to work for a now belly up mag here in the Twin Cities, they had the same idea better quality editorial and limited ads. The problem is the ads pay the bills, not subscriptions (even costly ones) and they are a necessary evil. <BR> <BR>I loved the Standard, I hope the writers and photogs can make another go of it or they can transition another mag, but only if the editors give them free creative reign!

It was a progressive idea its too bad they were in the wake industry, maybe if they mixed in some snow and surf they could have had a better chance.

andy_nintzel 11-26-2008 2:19 PM

Adub I did the SAME THING! They can keep my cash! I dont mind!

ttrigo 11-26-2008 2:25 PM

well, if they ever make it back, you can count me in as a re-subscriber!

Dope magazine... loved the lifestyle feel rather than focus solely on riding. <BR> <BR>RIP Standard.

This has been done once before in the 90's. Inside Motocross was a excellent moto photo mag printed on Extra Large quality paper with the best moto photography out there. It also went south after 4 issues and i too was a subscriber. I still cherish the few that i received and they are in pristine condition to this day. <BR> <BR>I wish the Standerd could have kept going as i looked forward to thumbing through the pages every chance i could get.....Too bad it didn't work out <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/647857.jpg" alt="Upload">
