Why is it in wakeboarding that we spell it Melan instead of Melon like in skating and snowboarding. This is what i have found, now what do all of you think?

denverd1 12-28-2006 1:39 PM

cuz we're real

kidding. its from melancholy. nothing to do with fruit

(Message edited by denverd1 on December 28, 2006)

Yeah, I think you've just seen a lot of misspellings of that particular term. It's misspelled way more often than it's spelled correctly.

cali_rider 12-28-2006 1:51 PM

But ok im still lost though. I know it from the word melancholy, but why is it spelled different? I looked everywhere and only in wakeboarding is it spelled with an "A" and not an "O".

flux 12-28-2006 1:59 PM

MELANcholy

innov8actionsports.com 12-28-2006 2:07 PM

What up Travis? How it be in Cali?
You workin on any new Vids?

cali_rider 12-28-2006 2:21 PM

Ya i get that part of the word but honestly check out other sites (beyond wakeboarding). All my co-workers gave me a hard time because thats how i spelled it and when we looked it up we found that only in the wakeboarding world did it spell it with an "A".

my question is which one is right. All the skaters/snowboarders i know spell it melon.

Jeff -

Yo buddy, Cali is cool, just a lil nipply but not too bad. How is it out there? As for videos, im not going to say to much but ya i got some ideas

I only do tindy grabs, both wake and snow, with a tailfish here and there, so I really can't answer properly.

innov8actionsports.com 12-28-2006 2:28 PM

Its frikin cold out here in Texas, but the shop is kickin A so all is well.
hope you are having a great holiday season.

denverd1 12-28-2006 2:58 PM

tailfish is THE grab for '07. If you don't grab tailfish you can't ride behind my boat.

nice profile pic flux

cptoafficiency 12-28-2006 3:49 PM

I've heard it's "melancholy" spelled long; "melon" spelled for short. No real "reason" for the difference. Where's Electric Snow when you need him/her?

nj_alex 12-28-2006 3:55 PM

If you're going to grab tailfish you may as well grab smellan too!

flux 12-28-2006 4:32 PM

Way to be Nacho, ROCK THE TAILFISH, ROCK IT HARD. I may have to get a PA system for the boat to urge riders into bastard grabs. I'd also like to hear people shouting it out when they own it.

Thanks for the compliment.

Nosencholy anyone??

westsidarider 12-28-2006 11:06 PM

hey flux that pic on ur profile looks like buena vista. yea or nay?

electricsnow 12-29-2006 2:20 AM

I've wondered why it's spelled "melon" as well, and I'd love to know the "real" reason (outside of speculation). It is probably due to misspellings from way back when (since the root is "melancholy"). My old skate mags from the late 80s have it spelled "melon" as well. So you know, it's not like it's anything recent.

Her. It's her, by the way.

wakeworld 12-29-2006 2:51 AM

It's very confusing because everyone knows that "electricsnow" is a boy's name!

proho 12-29-2006 9:43 AM

ya and there are no girl chefs and a girl shouldnt possibly no so much about skateboarding so e-snow is either male or a robot.

denverd1 12-29-2006 9:45 AM

- or have +25 year old skate mags

dakid 12-29-2006 10:02 AM

electricsnow 12-29-2006 1:17 PM

jhilltn 01-01-2007 6:42 PM

skateboarders can't spell

maliburider456 01-01-2007 7:04 PM

to my calculations who cares

fbroen 01-01-2007 8:05 PM

And btw, is it "Electric-Snow" or "Electrics-Now"? My girl always claimed "Snow", but I always read it as "Now". I suspect she is right tho, lol.

scott_a 01-01-2007 11:04 PM

I'm gonna go with misspelling.

<!-quote-!>quote:
Short for "melonchollie grab", the Melon Grab is a Backside Air where the legs are twisted so the front knee touches the board while the board is brought up behind the skateboarder. Backside Airs are the same as Melon Grabs, but you are supposed to straighten your front leg to make it a Melon (short for "Meloncholy" - the original name for the tweak). electricsnow 01-03-2007 1:25 AM

taylor, I do! (care, that is.) So to my calculations...I guess that means that your calculations suck. "OMG, JK!!! LOL, ROFL!!!"

FB, it's electric-snow.
