I'm gonna be taking a road trip and Im looking for a lake somewhere in central Texas to hang out for a weekend and get some good riding in. Any ideas?

wakefaip 02-17-2005 10:38 AM

It depends, if you're going to be near Austin you have the river or Lake Travis. If you're near San Antonio you have Canyon Lake or Lake Medina. Also near there is New Braunsfels (sp?) on I-35 a place called Texas Ski Ranch (cable park)

smackus 02-17-2005 10:41 AM

I did the same thing last october. Lake Travis was wonderful. Just got in the car with boat in tow and headed for warmer wether. That is where we ended up. Near Austin, south of Dallas. Stay in Austin and Drive the 5 miles or so to put in unless you have big money.

Keep in mind that if you're gonna be here in the next month or so, its still pretty much Dry Suit weather here.. Water temps in the upper 50s tops.

Speaking of Texas....anyone of you guys enter to win HGTV's dreamhouse this year? It's a killer house right on Lake Tyler with a seperate boat house and dock. Very sweet. If I win I'll be moving from San Diego to Tyler no doubt. <BR><a href="http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/pac_ctnt_947/text/0" target="_blank">1783,HGTV_19176_26632,FF.html,http ://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/pac_ctnt_947/text/0,1783,HGTV_19176_26632,FF.html</a>}

cc - it called the "reserve" or something like that. i live in tyler. there are two parts to lake tyler. I think its on the east part through the channel. never seen it myself, though. yea, i've registered a few time. I'm sure some bigwig's newly married neise will win it or something stupid. If anybody wins, hit me up for a pull!

denverd1 02-18-2005 5:20 PM

Oh yea, there's a guest house in the boathouse. is that big time or what.. And a separate one off the garage.

chrissocal 02-23-2005 7:15 AM

To be a little more specific....I live in So Cal...and my brother lives in Atlanta. We're going to meet in or around the half way point which is somewhere around the Odessa/Midland/Abilene/San Angelo area. I did some research and found Lake E.V. Spence or Lake JB Thomas. Anyone heard of those lakes? By the way we're meeting over Memorial Weekend. Thanks

ccwhite 02-23-2005 8:11 AM

Chrissocal - Take the extra time and go to Austin, Houston or Dallas. Decent clubs in all three of those areas.

denverd1 02-23-2005 12:04 PM

There's probably lakes there, not many people. damn sure not any riders.

ponyh8r 02-23-2005 1:18 PM

Chrissocal, <BR> <BR>If your in the San Angelo area let me know. Most people out here ride on Lake Nasworthy. It is a smaller lake but there is a pretty good WB scene. <BR> <BR>If I had a choice, I would also take tthe extra time and go to Austin or Dallas to ride, but if your going to be in the area of San Angelo, let me know and we can hook up. <BR> <BR>Mike

If I were you I'd meet in Austin.. and hang out on Lake Austin... Great Water and Great Night life.

chrissocal 02-23-2005 4:01 PM

I think the extra 200 miles or so to Austin will be a little too much unless you guys think its really worth the extra drive. Im kinda looking for a melow scene. I'll be teaching his kids how to wakeboard for the first time and although its Memorial weekend, I probably wont be partying too much. Im looking to keep the miles below 1200 from Newport Beach, CA. Thanks for the responces so far.

ccwhite 02-23-2005 4:25 PM

Memorial weekend on Austin will be a mess. But there are a couple of really nice spots to go. <BR> <BR>

chrissocal 02-23-2005 5:05 PM

How about Lake Meredith?

davetxt 02-27-2005 11:00 AM

I recommend staying far away from Meredith, a huge lake that gets very rough. It has been low for a while, not sure if the lake is back to normal. <BR>If you are set on staying in the panhandle area I would suggest Lake Allen Henry, south of Lubbock, near Post. Probably the best lake in the area. It will be pretty rough over a holiday weekend but you can go up the river and probably find a few decent places to ride. The lake is easily navigable with few under water obstructions. Not a lot in the area in the way of places to stay, restuarants or anything like that. Other than that I would probably look at Nazworthy, as suggested, or Lake Brownwood near Abilene. A little south of San Angelo is Inks Lake, I hear its OK, I have never been there though. Keep in mind that this area is flat, dry and has very little scenery. <BR> <BR>Like others have said, your driving this far you might as well go a couple hundred more miles to see what Central TX wakeboarding is all about.
